A little dark, but black bear in a dark tree, hole # 6...appropriate for Black Bear Golf Club! Photo submitted by relivgolfers on 09/29/2013
Always a fun and challenging course. Greens are fast and roll good and will definitely make you think. Layout is great and staff always friendly and helpful. Put this on your list to try you won’t be disappointed.
Interesting course
Took us by surprise. It is a links course designed by P. B. Dye . Plenty of sand traps, elevated and undulating small greens with rolling fairways. We unfortunately picked a day that was 55 degrees w/20 mph winds which made it an even greater challenge on an already difficult track. We were still impressed by the course which seemed to be in the middle of nowhere!
Tuff Course, Small Greens
Nice track, lots of rolling hills and lots of sand bunkers. Only water on hole 18, the work is the the tight Fairways and close to 100 sand traps/bunkers. All the greens are elevated, small, and fast. Not a good track for the high handicapper.
Great Layout
Not my first time on this course but have not played it in four years. I really like the layout, fairways nice, greens in good shape very very fast to putt on, not a good putter on greens this fast, not the greens fault but mine.
Anywhere off the fairways was rough and not well maintained. Many bunkers and all need some maintenance attention. A lot of players did not bother to rake bunkers, more rakes would help with that issue.
For me this course was a great value and a good challenge, going to play it again soon
Black Bear on Jan 25th
Greens were faster than usual, and I have always enjoyed playing this course. However, with the check-in person not wearing a mask and with no screen between him and the customers they have lost this regular customer until after the pandemic.
Grizzly black bear
Hope you have fun with your driver because after that the fun stops. Bunkers are tough even if they were raked but most were not. Very fast greens with lots of undulation. .
Pro Quality Layout
Another course that caught me by surprise. The designer must have had a serious attitude when he designed this course because it is reflected in the layout. Course management is a must. Aesthetically speaking, you won't be impressed. Nothing really exciting to see.
Greens were hard and fast. Fairways played soft with moderate roll. Well defined roughs.
Play from a responsible tee box.
Black Bear
Fabulous course and wonderful experience. Looks as if they are really making efforts to keep course conditions at top level. Loved it.
LOVE THIS COURSE !!!!
This is one of my favorite courses to play. Staff is always friendly and helpful. Course is always in good shape - from the rolling fairways to nice sand in bunkers (no weeds like some others courses) to the well groomed rolling greens.
Practice putting green is even challenging. If you get the chance for a “tie breaker” - try the 19th short / short par 3.
Extremely Rude Owner/Inconsistent Greens
The owner is terrible. Extremely rude and combative. No customer service skills whatsoever. The guy yells at customers, rushes golfers, and is very combative. Staff is rude as well, food is not great, and the carts are always dirty. The course is in average shape. The greens are very inconsistent. Most of them slow, but some fast. Most of the poor reviews regarding this course has to do with the rude owner. Guy needs to shape up. Will not be going back any time soon.
Greens
A while back I mentioned that you should bring a hammer because the greens were so slow; boy, have they fixed that!! Very quick!! In fact, some of the pin placements made it almost impossible to putt ( #5 green was ridiculous). The guy I normally golf with a very good putter and he had 5 3 putts in 16 holes; we didn't finish do to slow play. Course is in good shape and the new owners are making improvements.
Very difficult
I played a lot of courses in Florida over the years.....this course is the toughest I ever played. Greens fast, most of them elevated and most of them small. Pete Dye course. Multiple sand traps and the death valley kind....very deep! Unless you like punishment do not play this course unless you are a scratch golfer or don't keep score. You will be 10-15 strokes over your handicap!
Lots of slope
I didn't have to deal with many trees! small greens. Due to some frosty weather the grass wasn't in great condition.
