A little dark, but black bear in a dark tree, hole # 6...appropriate for Black Bear Golf Club! Photo submitted by relivgolfers on 09/29/2013
Don’t waste your time
Terrible course. Doesn’t look like the photos. Terrible condition and bad layout. I won’t ever play there again. Save your money.
Challenge
The course overall was in good shape, for this time of year. Have to hit it straight as fairways are narrow and greens are small. Wish the greens were in better shape but overall course makes you think and shape every shot!
Excellent practice facilities
State of the art practice range. Pace of play excellent(3:15). Greens good. Fairways had grass, but lies were tight. Rough was dormant grass or sand. Definitely worth a trip to play.
Mr
Excellent golf course. The Course was in great shape, the pace was awesome, and I would rate this course the best we played on our annual trip to Orlando. I will be back next year for sure.
Glad to be back
Had been a year or two since we played. Felt like this course was easier the third time around. Need to know the hidden features. Glad to be back
great course
great course, friendly staff and definitely worth the 40 minute trip from Orlando
Open, rolling and sandy!
Love playing the Bear! Course is in good condition and a challenge for your short game with many significantly raised greens. Very enjoyable round of golf.
Great Layout, Small Skinny Greens
Great start of 2025! Black Bear is a very nice layout with generous landing zones, but skinny long greens making for very difficult approach shots. A few holes have a blind second/third shot to very skinny greens surrounded by huge bunkers. It's very penal to miss the greens. The bunker complex is quite impressive, and the condition of the sand is very good. The bunkers were in great conditions and well-manicured. Great course conditions for January.
Wouldn’t pay anymore than I did today
Didn’t know coming in that PB Dye designed a very hilly course wasn’t too bad. Not really female friendly course since the red tees were often found just placed on the fairway, not having its own tee boxes. A lot of the tee boxes and the greens were in rough shape. The sand traps were also not in great condition either, some missing rakes or not grated.
Nice course
Drove almost 2 hours to get there. Was worth the money and the drive. Great layout. Unfortunately we hit very rough weather. Lots of wind and rain a few times. But that has nothing to do with the course, which was perfect.
Ok. Black Bear I see You!
Ok after reading some of the reviews I was skeptical and ready for some unpleasant staff and course. What I encountered was local staff and course ready to assist to make my round good. The only thing I can say is the pace of play was a struggle because they were so eager to get everyone going that it bottle necked quickly. Other than that it was a nice experience. We don’t do the back nine because of the pace so instead we opted to play front again. So next time the full experience because I would love to see the back 9. This course was a challenge! Iam a member at Bella Collina and it’s tough but this gives it a run for the money because of blind shots and small greens. Of course Bella has the means to be immaculate where Black Bear may lack staff and maintenance upkeep but still it was decent shape for me! The restaurant was good and the gentlemen at the Proshop as well as the waitress treated us well! I was even able to have my wife ride along without any issues! Well done Black Bear we will be back!
