Will give it ONE more chance

The day I went, the course was aerated on the front side. I didn’t know that until getting there so I played the back 9 twice.

Course was in decent shape and very crowded.

The practice green was closed.

The staff was very friendly and went over everything that was going on.

I’ll come back once more to see if it gets better but being a “new course” on GolfNow, you would think the “Aeration Advisory” should’ve been on the course info.

Much improved conditions

I’ve played Birkdale hundreds of times through the years and must admit the course conditions are the best I’ve ever seen! Dan Maples would be happy to see one of his gems being brought back to glory...keep up the good work...will be back for more!

Not Royal, but Not Bad

Pretty nice variety of holes--not outside the range of the average golfer. Course is usually in good shape (although last fall it was poor).

Wish I could play it a little more--usually play there 3-4 times a year.

Greens need big time help

Played with a friend on 8/3/2015. I had heard really good things about this course and was thrilled to be able to book the desired tee time an hour before. Upon arriving, the clubhouse looked nice and had the feel of a nicer, private club than a public one.

Check in went smoothly and our discounted rate included a small bucket of range balls for $29. The driving range was very nice, along with the practice green. Things would be vastly different on the course however. The first thing we noticed was the cut grass mounds all along the many of the fairways. The greens were in pretty bad shape as well- weeds, brown patches, dirt and lots and lots of unrepaired divots (not the GC fault). Some greens were very fast and unforgiving, while some were as slow as a turtle. That made the day very frustrating for both myself and the experienced golfer with me. I don't think either one of us had a 1-putt on any green even from within 4-5 feet. It was also extremely hot, 94 degrees, and there just wasn't enough water stations along the course to help cool us down. There was also no drink cart service offered.

Overall, I can't give this course high ratings on anything other than the courtesy of the pro shop employee and I'm not sure if I'd play another round here for the rest of this season, even with a nice discount. They really need to work on those greens and other golfers really need to repair their divots here.

Awesome experience

Birkdale has one of the best course designs in the Richmond area! The staff was the friendliest I have encountered at a golf course. They make your experience great. Everyone from the cart staff and people at the bar to the head professional. I had the clubhouse burger and it was phenomenal. Lots of food and for a good price. I will definitely be back and recommend it to everyone.

great par 3's

For the $40 per player with cart charged our group had a good time. A couple of the greens had some turf loss (which the pro shop staff did tell us about), but for such new greens they putted really well.
Staff were helpful and we will go back. A fun player friendly course.
