Good for the 10+ Handicappers
Short course with a nice layout. Good for walking. I believe that it is $5-$10 too expensive .
Weird tee boxes - I believe this is because they are trying to improve the tee boxes.
Sand traps were in really good condition. I found my share!
Work on the bare spots - not many.
Need bathroom availability after hours - wife peed in the parking lot!!!
Need a ranger to monitor pace of play - I would have jumped a hole if I knew it was clear in front of the group in front. Also, while the traps were in great shape, the ranger could check to ensure the traps were raked (I raked mine plus more in all the traps I found) and also check for ball marks. The Ranger may be able to identify the culprits and teach them course etiquette. I am willing to work as a Ranger - call me to discuss.
Breathing down your back
Overcrowded, we were hit into by a single multiple times. We spent the last 6 holes waiting over 5 minutes to hit at different times all while someone was hitting into us or breathing down our neck from behind. Glad we were playing 9 because our nerves couldn't handle another 9.
Good layout course
Course has a mix layouts, risk and reward holes added to the thrill of the game. Course needs a little car in some high use areas but overall plays well.
It’s been better
Pace of play was very slow. Multiple groups ahead of us not following rules, dropping 5 balls at a time until they hit a good one. LOTS of rocks in just about every tee box for whatever reason. Has not been like this in the past. Course is fun and typically in better shape. Maybe this was just an off weekend. I’ll come back in the future and give it another shot. Price is a little steep in my opinion compared to similar courses in better condition. Will say the staff was great and very friendly during multiple encounters.
Interesting layout
Birkdale has an interesting layout. A lot of holes next to main roads and even one with an electrical power area. The course is in good condition but the layout is your typical public muni crammed in a neighborhood.
Decent - but!
The fairways, greens, tee boxes were in good shape. Only course I know of that everseeds still. Not a fan of thier tee box markers, stick with tape wrapped around them? Maybe a fall- winter thing? Now the bad, traps, or should I say gravel and rock pits, if there is any sand it's got rocks, thanks for the nick in my sand Wedge. Overall is it worth what they are changing? No, they need to improve the traps.
A pretty darn good test
Weather conditions were great, although it seemed we played into the wind on every hole - that's Dan Maples for you. Was able to keep it in the fairways for the most so I scored well, pin positions notwithstanding. Good layout.
Great round
2 seniors enjoyed a lovely fall day playing here. Course is in a convenient location, and has a very good price for seniors
Fairways
First mowing after overseeding, fairways were at their best.
Really dissappointed
I wanted to share my recent experience at Birkdale, as I believe feedback is important for improvement. I arrived for my tee time, only to find that it was overbooked and there was uncertainty about when I would actually get to play. While I appreciated the beautiful day, I was disappointed that several groups of three were allowed to tee off ahead of me, despite my reservation.
The starter was friendly, but I found the manager's demeanor to be quite unwelcoming. Unfortunately, the pace of play was extremely slow, and I had to leave after 9 holes due to the round would take over five hours.
I asked if there was any possibility of a discount since my original tee time was pushed back by an hour, but the manager seemed annoyed by my request.
Based on this experience, I would recommend considering other courses in the area. I hope my feedback helps improve the experience for future guests.
Exactly. I waited over an hour from the booked tee time while watching them go out. I don't like leaving negative reviews but this was purposely bad.
If you went out as a single, why not hook up with one of the threesomes?
