Disney's Palm Golf Course
About
The 18-hole Palm Course at Walt Disney World Golf Resort in Lake Buena Vista, FL is a resort golf course that opened in 1971. Designed by Joe Lee and Rocky Roquemore, Palm Course at Walt Disney World Golf Resort measures 6870 yards from the longest tees and has a slope rating of 131 and a 73.7 USGA rating. The course features 4 sets of tees for different skill levels. Greens and fairways are bermuda grass.
The natural Florida woodlands provide a stunning backdrop to one of America's premier resort courses. Architect, Joe Lee, designed the 6,870-yard Palm with elevated tees and greens. The key ingredient, of course, was the Florida palm and he made good use of nearly every variety for aesthetic and strategic purposes. Its fairways are crafted through a pine forest of mature, natural woodlands that includes moss-dappled oak, maple and cypress trees. Palmetto scrub fills the forest floor. It boasts of more than its share of water and sand with nine water holes and 94 bunkers.
This is a perfect choice for everything from a casual round to a large group outing.

The layout is very enjoyable. The course is challenging but a very fair test. It’s the way a resort course should be. There is risk/reward and what you is in front of you is what you get, no blind shots that make you wish you hit a different club as a first time player on the curse.
palm courses
A must play if in the area to visit Mickey and friends. Course presents a good challenge for the average golfer. Very nice staff!!!
Course Conditions On The Decline
Per the review title, unfortunately Magnolia and Palms are on the decline from a course condition standpoint. Let me explain.. First of all, the pictures you see on this site are very generous as compared to the actual course conditions over the last year or so from my perspective. The tee boxes and fairways just don't have that nice consistent grass for setting the ball up for a good strike. Obviously this is a moot point when using a tee on the boxes but I like to use the grass for the par 3s. I found the grass on the practice range was better than the conditions on the course, i.e, especially the fairways.
As usual, the staff is very friendly and the overall facilities are pretty good. The value for the money (at least for Orlando residents) is excellent for this time of year. I've played these courses (Lake Buena Vista too) quite a few times over the last year and I can't help feel the conditions are deteriorating somewhat. Especially in light of these courses being in championship shape back in the early 2000s. Don't get me wrong, they're still in decent shape for the money and I still encourage folks to try them out.
The traps and greens were in pretty good condition. The greens still remain pretty fast so that's always a plus. Pretty much all areas containing rough are brown, there's really no grass to speak of for the rough areas. The fairways just don't have the concentration of good grass for giving you that confidence, but you can still take a nice divot with a clean strike.
I hope Disney invests more money in reseeding the fairways and watering more. I realize this is the dry season but I'm taking that into account regarding my review of the conditions. This is peak season for green fees in FL, the conditions should be better.
Frustrating
This is the 1st time my husband and I have played the Disney Palm course. The course itself is very challenging which we both appreciated. However the players in front of us were going way over the pace of play and when we brought it to the attendant's attention he informed us that they were ahead of schedule. The players were not ahead of schedule they had taken a 1/2 hour earlier slot. This caused a backup of at least 3 carts behind us as well as ourselves waiting to play. We were finally frustrated enough that we left on the 15th hole. Good luck.
Thank you for your feedback on your recent round at Walt Disney World® Golf. We apologize for the fact that your were displeased with the service that our Palm courses presented you. We hope that you will play our wonderful courses again in time to come, so we can exceed your expectations upon your next visit to Orlando.

Palm
Part of the Disney golf experience. Recent redesign took some challenges out of the course. Greens were bumpy and slow. Some interesting challenges and risk reward holes.
Outstanding course
Very enjoyable round of golf. Paired up with two great guys too. Course in good condition and reasonably challenging. Staff also very friendly and made sure we were always happy!
Bad Starter
I love this course and all Disney courses, but the Starter did a bad here. We tee'd off hole 1... literally right in the MIDDLE of our play...he comes out and stops us.... to add another player to our line!!! WE had already tee'd off !!!! ...not right. Not usual for this course, so will play again here ; ) Also handicaps are not considered/nor synced up here ....we had a total "brand new beginner" with us ; (
Choose the Palm
While the Magnolia is considered the premier course at Disney, play the Palm. From the moment I arrived, the staff was friendly and accommodating. I arrived to the 1st tee and was able to hold a nice conversation with the starter. (I had this pleasant experience with the staff on the Magnolia too.) The Palm has loads of water (especially on the back 9), but that makes the track scenic and exciting. The Magnolia had some water too, but it was mainly just long, straight holes. Play all of Disney's courses if you can; but if you can only pick one, play the Palm.
Great Day.
The Course and the staff were great. We had 2 foursomes playing and the pace of play was good. Course was in good condition except for the Par 4 4th hole. It was cart path only. Overall we had a great time.
Disney Magic
This is a challenging course with some excellent holes. From arriving to leaving the experience was excellent; the usual Disney WOW welcome...! Looking forward to going back sometime soon and playing the Magnolia course too.
Very impressed!
This was the first time I played this course and I can’t explain how impressed I was with the condition of the course! It was truly in world class condition and the greens were incredible. I highly recommend playing it at the moment. I will be playing again this weekend.
Great course very wet
Greens on this course are always is good shape unless they have been punched. The problem with this course is drainage. With summer rains expect Carr path only on entire course and very sloppy or soggy conditions.
A fantastic golf course
The Palm golf course is truly a golf course that must be played. Although we played in the heat and humidity of the summer, we still had a great time. The course itself is in fantastic shape, with most of the greens rolling true and not too wet at all. Some fairways (in particular #4) were quite wet but nothing that made it un-enjoyable. I'm a middling golfer and I felt that although the course is in great shape and is laid out nicely, it still presented quite the challenge. The golfing carts were quite interesting as well as they have GPS fitted. This will give you an accurate distance to the pin, something that allows you to play the right club and give yourself the chance of a decent score. The clubhouse and bag drop off are also a credit to the resort, with the staff cleaning your clubs on return and loading them into the boot of your car, something which isn't found at many other courses. Overall, the golf course is a credit to Disney and although very professional, still manages to give you that 'magical' feeling of being at Disney. If you're in the area, definitely give this course a go, you won't be disappointed.
Course staff could use some serious work
I played Disney Palms course this past weekend for my buddies birthday. We arrived at 9:25 for our 9:45 tee time. By the time we had the bags unloaded and on the carts and were at the pro shop to pay it was 9:33. I walked in before the rest of my party as they were all using the restroom outside and told him our name and that we were here to pay. This is where I am very disappointed in Disney. The dude behind the counter gives me some snarky response as to how close we are cutting it and should have been here earlier. I was a little shocked and I said well we are all here and he gives me another rude answer along the lines of where are they (like I would lie to this man about my group). He then asked if we had our bags on the carts and I said yes were all ready to tee off. Then he replies along the lines of oh well maybe you actually will make it. So after we all pay it is now 9:36 and we drive over to tee one, about a 2 minute drive. We get to the tee box and there are two foursomes waiting to tee off and one foursome that just teed off. We had to wait an additional 15 minutes past our tee time before we could tee off. Its not like the front desk didn't know there were two groups waiting to tee off either, they were talking on their walkie talkies to each other. Overall very rude front off staff that took care of us. Would have been nice too if they told us you had to grab range balls before you drove to hole 1, as we had all this extra time to do nothing. The starter was a nice guy as was the cart lady and so were the bag attendants.
Positives were the course was very nice, a good challenge and very well maintained.

We have been experiencing an unusually cold start to the year here in Central Florida, and the roughs, that have not been over-seeded, have turned dormant (brown) I can assure you that it is not a result of doing something or not doing something that we should have been to maintain these courses at a high level of conditioning that has caused the grass to look like it does. We water our courses nightly, and it is simply a by-product of the cold weather. As temperatures begin to increase, the growth in the roughs will once again have everything green again. In the mean time, the courses do play firm and far, leading to longer drives, and shorter approach shots. The greens are putting tremendously well currently, therefore there's the potential of a personal best low score awaiting you the next time you play!
