About

Holes 18
Type Resort
Par 72
Length 6870 yards
Slope 131
Rating 73.7

The 18-hole Palm Course at Walt Disney World Golf Resort in Lake Buena Vista, FL is a resort golf course that opened in 1971. Designed by Joe Lee and Rocky Roquemore, Palm Course at Walt Disney World Golf Resort measures 6870 yards from the longest tees and has a slope rating of 131 and a 73.7 USGA rating. The course features 4 sets of tees for different skill levels. Greens and fairways are bermuda grass.

The natural Florida woodlands provide a stunning backdrop to one of America's premier resort courses. Architect, Joe Lee, designed the 6,870-yard Palm with elevated tees and greens. The key ingredient, of course, was the Florida palm and he made good use of nearly every variety for aesthetic and strategic purposes. Its fairways are crafted through a pine forest of mature, natural woodlands that includes moss-dappled oak, maple and cypress trees. Palmetto scrub fills the forest floor. It boasts of more than its share of water and sand with nine water holes and 94 bunkers.

This is a perfect choice for everything from a casual round to a large group outing.

Resort Golf

This is the resort golf I envisioned when I made a tee time a Disney's Palm. The staff actually makes it as 'resort' as possible. Almost every shot into a green a bunker is staring you in the face with the pin right behind it - this was most holes - not just a few. Fairway bunkers everywhere. They used to play PGA Tour events here and there are placards at most holes telling you past information or records by players. For instance, the scorecard wrecker also known as the 18th hole. Don't read the placard if you don't want negative tee shot thoughts. "Hardest finishing hole on the PGA Tour at one point" All that said I still shot a better score than I expected and had a great time. Do yourself a favor and don't miss this course.

Palm course

I have played the Palm multiple times and this course never ceases to amaze. There are holes for the longer hitters to chomp at the bit at but still have a challenge for most golfers.

Bunkers were in great shape, fairways were good, rough wasn't too thick and greens rolled true.

GPS in my cart was acting up throughout the round but I was able to use my new rangefinder so I managed. You can always call the clubhouse if you need a new cart.

Excellent Palm

Disney Palm course is a good challenge to play from the back tees and having played this on previous visits we again found the course to be in excellent condition.

The challenge of water, trees and plenty of bunkers means that you have to keep the ball pretty straight off the tee and recent heavy rain meant that the course was a little bit wet in places. Approach shots to the green play the full distance as little run on the ball on many of the shots.

Greens were quick and true and the course navigation built into the buggies meant that your club selection was easy. Pace of play was a little slow on the first nine holes, but the slow group finished after 9 holes and we ended up going round in 4 hours, which is good for Florida courses.

Easier than it used to be

I played this course ten years ago and loved it. A fair test.

Since then, it has been made easier. It seems to now be a resort course for those that don't want to go to Disney with their family.

Two holes in particular have been changed dramatically. #11 used to have bunkers all the way to the green (a par 5). Most bunkers are gone now. On #13 someone decided to get rid of the trees that kept all but the best players from cutting the corner. I'm not a long hitter, and I had 50 yards in on my second.

Just two examples, but, this course has changed from the challenge it once was. Another difference is that many greens have been elevated.

Forgive me, but, that alone does not make a good track. I inquired about these changes and was told "management" wanted to make the course easier for visitors.

Overall, it's still a decent track, but, many teeth have been taken out.

I did notice that the course and slope rating remain the same. What does that tell you?

Thank you for your feedback on your recent round at Walt Disney World® Golf. We apologize for the fact that your were displeased with the challenge that our Palm courses presented you. We hope that you will play our wonderful courses again in time to come, so we can exceed your expectations upon your next visit to Orlando.

Our course was fully renovated in 2013 to the tune of over $2 million by the Arnold Palmer Design Company. Some renovations were conducted to make the course play easier for the average golfer, while others added additional challenge, thus the course rating and slope remained fairly consistent with it numbers prior to the renovation.

Thank you for taking the time to share your experience with us!

Great character

The course has great character with water coming into play on multiple holes. Fairways were well maintained except for one par 5. Majority of the greens are slightly elevated and very tough to hold with a mid or long iron. Green side bunkers are tough. Overall a great course and will play again as long as it is early in the morning before the rush.

Could be in better shape

The conditions were a little ragged for this time if year. Course was very spongy even though we've had very little rain recently. I expected a little better from WDW. Staff is great, facilities are great. I'll play again.

Nice course

Very cool morning! Issue with GolfNow booking - staff said for FL residents only, but specifically booked one online that was not restricted. Allowed me to play with reservation but "warned" me this was a one time pass. Did not need the attitude first thing particularly since this was between course and GolfNow. I know I booked non-res. Decent course, very wet but greens still nice, good speed and true. Decent at the rate payed but would not want to pay higher.

Worth the money

So many Orlando courses in the $80-$120 range are beat up, have slow pace and are not worth the money. The Palm course is challenging yet fair. Course was in excellent condition. Starters are knowledgeable and professional.

Great for a quick round at Disney

The Palm is a great option for playing a relaxing round in between visiting the parks. There are lots of signs encouraging fast play, which I appreciate, but the fast play encouragement and lack of places to relax at the turn or after the round make it feel like they want you to get off the course and back to the Magic Kingdom. This may have been because it was the off-season though and perhaps there is more to the off-course experience in the summer months or other busy times. I really enjoy the back nine here, and the conditions were excellent!

Oh no Mickey

Very disappointed, teed off at 1410 and in 4 hours managed 16 holes, conditions were fair, from muddy to dry. Greens were terrible with drainage marks. Also couldn't have my wife ride with me as I was told I was put in with 3 other golfers. When I get to first tee off I am paired with twosome and I was alone in cart. I get you would rather have four golfers, but don't lie!!!! All in all very disappointed, this was not the happiest place on turf. Don't bother
