Halifax Plantation
About
This 18 hole championship course opened in 1992 and was designed by Bill Amick. The shady fairways are bordered by huge sprawling oaks and towering pines, nestled in the shadows of Bulow and Tomoka State Parks in Ormond Beach. The course features five elevated tee boxes and fast, contoured, highly manicured greens adequately protected by traps. A unique experience for the golfer who enjoys not only a challenge but also extraordinary scenery.

Nice layout, but typical public course issues
I had not played here in nearly three years. Decided to see what shape it was in for myself. Greens aren't too bad, I think replaced a few years ago. The fairways are quite then and likely will still be so in summer. The bunkers have something in then that doesn't deserve to be called sand.
I restaurant is quite nice with good selection and preparation. There's a tavern and a dining room to fit your mood.
Average conditions and ridiculous pin placements
Haven't played here in a long time and was expecting a great experience but left disappointed. I know we are in a drought, but condition of fairways and tee boxes was dry and scrappy.. Greens were beautiful and super fast, but most pins were positioned on ridges and crowns that funneled the ball away from the cup. Lots of 3 putts in our group and the group ahead of us made it a long day. Better pin positions would have made the round more enjoyable and would speed up play for everyone.
Disappointing
I’ve played this course a number of times, good conditions and always enjoyed the experience. This last round was very disappointing. Very slow play, having to wait for every shot…just sucks the air out of you. I understand the hard freeze was tough on vegetation and don’t know what they could’ve done different, but the fairways were mostly short hay. While the greens look great, they are way too fast and pin placement was ridiculous. So many times I just barely tapped the ball to start it rolling and it would go 10’ or more past the hole. I’m a pretty good putter, but had too many 3 and 4 putt holes to count.
I’m not sure when or if I’ll give it another chance.
Great public course in the area
The course is well maintained and the staff members are fantastic.
Fairways are wide and forgiving for the errant shot.
The bunkers are deep and filled with soft sand, there are with prominent ledges on the high sides.
Warning, greens are exceptionally fast probably the fastest I’ve ever played, and pin placements were described by a staff member as “sadistic” - they did not lie.
Overall, fun course and I plan to play it again
Better than expected
Saturday morning 9:30 golfers but not a Hugh crowd on a beautiful morning. A little surprising, pair up with 2 singles and we played in just about 4 hrs.
Course was greener than many others, occasionally finding fairway grass was a challenge. That's nothing new. Greens were clean and fast I had a great time
Needs to be a marshall on course addressing pace if play. Was a long day on the course. Also pin placement was no user friendly.
Drought conditions
Although the course was in drought conditions, as long as you stayed on the fairway (or just off) you had something to hit the ball off. The course is challenging with fairways being lined with trees and lots of sand traps! We enjoy playing Halifax, but each time we've been there, the play has been slow. We suspect this visit there was a foursome of members sent out before us at the last minute since our tee time was delayed (and everything up till then was on time). We waited on every shot!!! Other than the slow play we like the course. Just not sure we'll go back with our experiences have been consistent at this course.
Waste of Time & Money
Had a mid morning tee time and left after the 11th hole. It took 2 hours and 55 minutes to play the front 9. Finished hole 1 and there was a group teeing off and another 2 groups waiting to tee off on hole 2. We saw the course attendant on hole 3 and my group mentioned the slow play, he did not care. Said something along the lines of “that’s golf for ya”. A complete waste of time and money.
Good tracdk
Fairways were a little thin, but overall the greens and course are very good.
