Not bad for late January in Virginia
First off playing in 2.5 hours will always help with how I review a course. But with that said, the greens were worked on recently and were heavily sanded, they did a great job of spreading the sand evenly, so it was like a step back in time to the old school sand greens. They rolled fast and pretty true despite being sanded. From what I could tell the greens will be terrific once the sand is gone. Other than that, same ole Lee's Hill, I used to be a member when they first opened. A shot maker course for sure, length is not all that important, but keeping in the fairway is of the utmost importance if you want to score here. The rough can be from a little to quite thin causing your ball to continue bounding on into the bordering hazard which are present on the majority of the holes. If you have never played here give it a chance, I think their regular rates are a little steep, but probably in line with the other area courses.
Winter Golf
Beautiful day...challenging course. In great shape for winter golf. Greens were slower than expected.
Great course...worth the drive
This is a great track. Greens were recently over seeded and are in perfect condition. Fairways are going dormant, but still very playable. Not too tight, but challenging all the same. Beautiful layout to the eye. Play the tips and you will work hard.
The Fall colors were an added bonus. If I lived closer, this would be my home course.
Generally in good shape
Course is still in the late season dressing stage, especially the back nine. This and the dry summer has taken a small toll, but otherwise the course was very playable and mostly green from tee to greens.
Rough was mostly dry and very thick to the point of being severly penalizing. That is, IF you could locate your ball. Even a yard off the fairway the balls would settle down into the rough and unless your standing on it, was very difficult to see, let alone get a club on it.
Bunkers are a bit rocky but the two I found were playable.
If this course was closer to home i would play it more. It provides an array of lengths to work on various shots, the greens are pretty good with plenty of options for pin placements and the rough places a premium on hitting fairways.
Recommended.
Nice course
Nice course and friendly staff. When the price is low something is wrong. Greens had recently been aerated and were sandy and slow. The rest of the course was in great shape. I wish there was someway this can be advertised. We also had a cart issue, it broke down in the middle of the 15th fairway. The course was very quick to rescue us and we made it through the round. The group in front of us was extremely slow and the Marshall never pushed them to play faster. All in all nice course busy on Saturday.
Nice
Course was in great shape with the exception of the greens which had just been punched. They were very rough and bouncy. I would not hesitate to play this course again .
Round @ Lees Hill
The course was in excellent shape, the Staff was really perfessional l and accomdating and would love to play it again.
In decent shape but not much of a course, really
Basically it's too flat, very, very flat and relies on waste, water and tight tee-shots through chutes to really toughen things up. Though it does have a real variety in that regard...plenty of fairly-open tee-shots that will allow the golfer to get "happy" on the tee and spray balls when trying to crush their tee-shots.
But the course is in good shape (though just about all the grass is crabgrass) and it has a nice country-style clubhouse, hot grille, dining area and pro-shop (but no showers) with friendly greens and traps full of dirt but decent cart-paths and tee-boxes if that really matters to you. Definitely gives you that "country-club" look and feel to go with the $55/round prices unless you score a hot deal. No reason to be ashamed to bring friends or family here to play.
Really HOT!
Great track ! Second time I have here and I really like this course. Makes you pay attention to every shot and will eat your lunch if you try to over power the course. Expect to use every club in your bag!
Great facility!
Arrived about an hour before my 12:40pm tee time to check in. I was playing as a single and the attendant offered me the opportunity to tee off early in front of a threesome which I accepted. While playing at a little faster pace than normal, three separate groups on the front 9 were courteous enough to let me play through. Played the entire round in just under 3 hours!
I couldn't be more impressed with the condition of the course! Tee, fairway, and green were all in excellent shape even in the heat of the summer. Didn't use the grill, but if it's like the rest of the facility, I'd expect nothing but the best quality and service.
Lee's hill gold
Loved the course staffing and patrons were courteous and friendlt. For being the middle of July the green condition were green and full of life. Recommend the course to all golfer abilities. Go play
Great course
Loved the course. Will play it again.
LH
Had a great time. Very professional and friendly staff. Would recommend to anybody. I'll be back to play again.
Great course
Fairways are in great conditios. Greens are a bit challenging. Overall a good forgiving course but lots of fun!
Not worth the hype
I drove 1.5 hours to play here based on the reviews I read here and I was disappointed. The course was fine for a Muni but definitely not worth all the hype it get from other reviews. In fact, the course lulled me to sleep many times because it is boring and very short. Driver and wedges from the tips. The fairways and greens were fine, everything else in between was pretty banged up.
