Challenging greens, great condition, lots of members

Greens are fast, smooth, in great condition. Lots of bunkers but they're raked and have good sand in them. Tee boxes are flat and in good condition. Fairways are cut short. Even on full tee sheets, pace of place is decent.

The course is not long but relatively difficult due to the heavily sloped greens and plentiful greenside bunkers. If you have a solid driver you will have opportunities to score, but you have to nail your approach shots and make putts. Plenty of holes have water hazards surrounding the greens that punish any mistakes. 18th green is very challenging, but so is the 7th, 9th, and 10th which all wrap around water. There is a strip view on the back 9, and plenty of mountain views throughout the course.

Tee times are on 9 minute intervals on weekdays and 10 minute on weekends. The course is often closed on Mondays as it is leased out to private outings. The course is often closed Thursday-Sunday for club tournaments which are an additional charge to play in.

18-hole tee times are very difficult to secure due to the number of members. It is still a decent deal for avid golfers (3+ days per week) who live on the west side of town. Range is grass but only 240 yards so you will not be able to hit driver if you are a long hitter.

Pool closes Labor Day, even though it's still 90-100 degrees in September. $95-125 for a guest to play. Range is closed Mondays. Gym is only open until 7pm. Restaurant closes at 8pm. Fee to use lockers. There is a $250 per quarter food and beverage minimum, food is unremarkable.

Great course, full tee sheets

Course condition was excellent post-overseed. There is thick rough around the green. The bunkers have good fluffy sand in them and are raked. The greens are fast, there are very few ball marks. The tee boxes were in excellent condition.

The course itself is great. It's not very difficult with the tips at 6657 yards (72.6/137). The layout is tight so accuracy off the tee is your biggest asset on most holes. All but one par 4 is under 410 yards, with multiple under 350 yards. There are fairway bunkers at ~250 on most holes, with carries over water hazards on a half dozen holes. Most of the holes are straight (no doglegs). The finishing holes (9 and 18) both had carries over water into the clubhouse. There were a surprising amount of trees on the course which was nice for those seeking shade from the sun. It's a residential course in an affluent gated community so homes line most holes.

There is a grass range here but it's only ~240 to the back of the range, with hole 2 behind the range, so irons only for bigger hitters. There is a decent practice area with a bunker to practice sand shots. The course included (2) bottles of water, and there was a restroom after hole 3 and 15 where you could refill water. Cart paths were nice but the carts were disappointing. There was no cart GPS and it was annoying not having the bar be magnetic for your range finder (only the bottom slot had a magnet).

Canyon Gate is a ClubCorp/Invited Clubs course. Invited Clubs' business model is to sell a lot of memberships with affordable initiation and monthly dues. They do not say "no" to new members. It is cheaper to become a member here than any other club in Vegas. The downside to this is a packed tee sheet - and on 9 minute tee time intervals. Full golf members can book 14 days in advance and hog the tee time slots before noon throughout the week. Saturday morning tee times are reserved for the Men's league. The course closes for 17 tournaments throughout the year, including 6 weekends during prime golf season (April/May, October/November).

Best value in Vegas

An affordable country club with all the amenities you can find in other pricier clubs. The course is fairly short, but challenging with many water features, narrow fairways and tough greens. The three tiered green on number 16 is a great example of hitting the green and facing a difficult putt, especially when the pin is in the back. Winter golf can also be tough as the balls will roll into water hazard on #9 and #10. The practice range with new matts are great when they're in play. Overall the golf experience is very good for the price.

Fun Las Vegas Course

I've spent the last two winters in Las Vegas and decided to join Canyon Gate. As a non-resident this course is one of the best values in town. You can play a 3 - 31/2 hour rounds at a private gated course that's always in great condition. We wrestle with the green speeds on uphill/downhill putts and our sand game needs to improve but if you want a fun golf experience and be greeted and helped by a friendly, courteous and professional staff then this is a great choice. The food is also very good with great service.

Need another round

The weather absolutely sucked (gusts up to 50 mph), but we were committed since we prepaid. Good thing the weather wasn't cold.

The course features mild elevation changes, doglegs, water hazards and undulating greens. Overall, I found the layout fun and challenging (wind wrecked my game so I won't comment on how I played). The greens really need to be addressed as it rolled bumpy, slow and patchy. I would not be happy if this was my club. The water hazards were placed in the right places to make the shot selection interesting. Also, the trees really hid the view of the city surrounding the course which is a nice feature. Overall a good place to visit.
