Primm Valley Golf Club - Desert Course

About
Editor's Note: Course closed for business in 2024.
Primm Valley Golf Club boasts two championship courses designed by Tom Fazio. On the Desert Course, Fazio fully utilized the rugged landscape and scenic views offered by the mountains in the distance. Like many of his designs, the Desert Course blends seamlessly into the beautiful surroundings. It is a straightforward layout with no hidden tricks but there are several strategically placed bunkers lurking beside the undulating greens to provide some challenges. The golf course also requires a few tricky forced carries. The fairways are generous and offer some room for error, making the course more appealing to beginners. In addition to the two golf courses, Primm Valley also offers extensive practice facilities that include a double-ended driving range, target greens, practice putting greens, and chipping and pitching greens with sand bunkers.

Very poor condition
Usually one of our favourite day trip destinations to golf…I have never played on a course in such overall poor shape! Fairways very patchy and brown, greens the same ( some with no grass). Lots of dead branches etc on fairways. I believe the Desert course has had little or no maintenance for a long period of time. Management should be embarrassed to have this 18 even open in the it’s current condition.
( spoke with foursome who were playing Lakes course and they commented that it was in better shape.
Desert course gets sadder every year
Desert Course:
The greens have some sort of fungus and were very patchy and with puddles of standing water on several greens. Lots of dead trees. Kitchen/snack bar not open, although there were coolers w/ice & 2 bottles of water on each cart. We have been coming here for 20+ years & used to love the course, but every year it just gets a little sadder.
9/29/21 golf with my son
Play the lake course
Desert course
Not very good shape
Greens poor
Fairways not in shape to play ball down
Bunkers full of rocks
Only good is layout
Nice Course in middle of nowhere!
Nice course but greens need to be redone. Some kind of fungus eating them
Fun Course but very dry
i had a lot of fun at this course, it was challenging without it be being frustrating. the course layout was fantastic, but the tee boxes, fairways and greens were very dry and just plain dirt in some spots. also the tee boxes were infested with Red Ants. never got bit but they were very noticeable on the tee boxes and sometimes the greens.
i would play here again maybe in the winter to see if the course is in better conditions
Not a bad course
Considering this course is at Mojave dessert, lack of water is expected. The greens and tee boxes have many bare spots/dying grasses, The course is nicely layout, with beautiful mountains. Hope in fall, the grass will grow back.
Greens
I’m not sure what happened to this golf course. It was always pristine. However the greens look like someone threw Handgrenades on them and really did not roll too well at all. Maybe they lost to greens to a fungus which is what it looked like but most of the greens were full of giant spots where there was no grass in addition they were working on the fringe
Above what I thought
From when I arrived and thru check it could have not been any better. The course and the greens had a few rough spots but this area has had excess heat warnings for the past weeks. I did do a hot time rate so the rate was fare. I would play this if possible
Fairways and greens in great shape
The fairways and greens were in great shape! The rough and sand need some help. Good value for $50 though.
Stateline 2-Jun-22
Lakes course in good shape. Greens were super slow and bumpy from recently being punched.
Still enjoyable.....will be even better in a few more weeks.
Maintenance is a problem
A favorite course but maintenance is way behind. Tee boxes uncut or not to previous standards. Grass growing in bunkers and rakes missing. Sand is not groomed. Some greens were missing green aka grass. Conditions in past were excellent but not now. Currently, wont spend money to play here. Hope they improve, such a nice track.
Hidden Gem
Friendly staff good food , amazing fairways. The greens were super sandy but amazing course and I will be back. To play the desert course next
5 hours of wonder
Tee boxes were shaggy, fairways were spotty, bunkers were unmaintained concrete, greens were inconsistent. All this is easy to notice during a 5 hour and 4 minute round. No marshall, just a grumpy cart return guy at the turn to say, " yeah, we know". At least the bar made a good red beer, to help enjoy such a cool layout.
