Blackhawk Golf Club
About
Blackhawk rests on the site of an old dairy farm, where the rolling terrain is suited for this links-style layout. This wide-open course features lots of water, loads of bunkers, and huge greens that are easy to three-putt if your approaches are off and you don’t have that feel for lag putting.
Each side has a punishing finishing hole. No. 9 is a monstrous par 4 that plays 464 yards. Off the tee, the narrow landing area is not conducive for the necessary booming drive, and the water causes problems in the fairway and around the green.
Hole 18 plays 430 yards, requiring a tee shot into the dogleg-right fairway that must thread two bodies of water.
The club prefers that you walk only on weekdays.
Getting there : Take I-35 north out of Austin, then exit FM 1825 east. Drive 5 miles to Hwy. 685 and turn left. Drive another 2.5 miles to Kelly Ln. and turn right.

Not worth $43.00
Paid 43.00 for a round here today. First time playing this course.
Staff was super friendly and very flexible on tee of time.
Course conditions are a completely different story. Fairways are just bad….lots of just bare dirt spots no grass.
Greens were worse! More than a hand full were unplayable at all.
I get it’s early in the season. I’ve played a dozen rounds already this year and other courses for similar price pints were in much better condition.
Terrible Greens
The course is in bad shape. I have played this course for 4 years. They have done nothing to improve the greens. The greens have only gotten worse. Will not be playing here anymore.
Anyone thinking of playing here, not worth it.
Horrible Fairways and Greens
I cannot stress enough how bad the greens are….sand, holes, three putt minimum.
Awful
Quite possibly the worst course I've played. Greens were horrible. Don't appear to have been kept up in the last 20 years. No marshalls on the course to speed up pace of play. No one running drinks on the course at all. Overall terrible experience. Would not recommend even to someone who has never played the game. I can find a better use for $40 than ever stepping foot on that course again.
Only course available on a weekend
Had to find a last minute round this past Saturday and the course conditions were the worst I’ve seen. Marshal was friendly, pro shop was not. No water on the course for golfers or the grass. Greens were mostly sand and weeds. It honestly looks like they aren’t trying.
Cheap, But Not Cheap Enough
Pretty sure they are just letting the course die until people stop showing up.
Avid golfers, beware.
Any course is fine if you are new to golf or looking for a cheap round. If you want a competitive round of golf and true greens, golf somewhere else. Fairways were hard and greens made birdies nothing but luck. One green was half sand and dirt. Literally zero grass.
Not well kept
There is just too much of the course is such awful shape to say it is a good value. It was difficult to play ‘from grass. Furthermore, the greens are in awful shape.
The course layout offers for great play
Love the hazard layout of each hole. There are water hazards and revines crossing the fairways. A few dog leg holes as well. Offers a great game of strategy placement. The course condition needs work, but hey, it is a course to play some golf at a fair price.
Austin freeze messed it all up
We payed for the sparked so it was fairly cheap but the course and fair way was just pitiful no grass and rocks and very bad greens with large sand patches and was like putting on concrete. 17 whole is just a straight construction site. Club house is out dated and I got a cold hotdog like FROZEN Had to ask to heat it up my self. No alcohol and semi warm drinks. Just not a places to spend a good amount of money.
DEF a practice round
Nasty condition
Blackhawk is typically in pretty rough shape, but one can overlook that because they are one of the cheaper greens fees in town and have regular availability on the weekends. But this weekend the conditions were so bad it crossed the threshold to being unplayable. No longer worth it. Greens were basically just hard packed dirt, fairways weren’t any better.
Looks like they've given up.
I can't believe they still call this a golf course and change $50+ to play this thing. I wouldn't even call it a cow pasture because cows eat grass. There is no grass. I know now why this was the only place I could find an open time on a Saturday on short notice.
My first round in Texas was disappointing
I booked a round for just $30 through a GolfPass membership, expecting the kind of quality I’d seen at that price point in Phoenix. I even told myself I wouldn’t be disappointed. At the first hole, I thought, 'Okay, this isn't too bad.'
But as the round went on, the fairways turned into a muddy mess, and the greens were in terrible shape. Well-struck tee shots would take huge bounces and end up lost in the bushes, and the putting was honestly soul-crushing. I ended up finishing about five strokes over my usual score.
If it hadn’t been for my partners, who were incredibly polite and witty, I don't think I could have finished the round. I wonder if the course will improve when the weather gets better, but honestly, I highly doubt it.
