Blackhawk Golf Club
About
Blackhawk rests on the site of an old dairy farm, where the rolling terrain is suited for this links-style layout. This wide-open course features lots of water, loads of bunkers, and huge greens that are easy to three-putt if your approaches are off and you don’t have that feel for lag putting.
Each side has a punishing finishing hole. No. 9 is a monstrous par 4 that plays 464 yards. Off the tee, the narrow landing area is not conducive for the necessary booming drive, and the water causes problems in the fairway and around the green.
Hole 18 plays 430 yards, requiring a tee shot into the dogleg-right fairway that must thread two bodies of water.
The club prefers that you walk only on weekdays.
Getting there : Take I-35 north out of Austin, then exit FM 1825 east. Drive 5 miles to Hwy. 685 and turn left. Drive another 2.5 miles to Kelly Ln. and turn right.

Worst golf course I’ve been to
Pace of play was abysmal. On every tee box there was a line of 3 groups waiting to tee off. the course condition was the worst I’ve ever seen. The fairways were terrible, and the greens were even worse. The greens had ant hills, weeds, sand and a whole lot of brown grass. Far and away the worst course I have ever played on DO NOT EVER GIVE THIS PLACE YOUR BUSINESS. The owner of this course should be sentenced to a North Korea labor camp.
Don’t Do It
I first started playing this course in 2015. Since then the conditions of the course got worse and worse. Today we have the course another chance after not playing here for a few years because some of the reviews were mixed. The only good holes are the ones you can see from the road. The fairways are trash. Half of the fairways have no grass to hit off of . The greens are trash. Dead spots, sandy spots, not cut. It’s been 3 years since I played here last and the conditions are the exact same. It seems like there’s no effort in fixing it. The worst part is, if you’re going to be missing grass in the fairways and greens then at least cut down the rough. Seriously spend the extra money and go somewhere else. This course has potential but they have no motivation to improve the conditions.
Unfortunate Conditions
I understand that the options for public courses in Austin are limited. However, the conditions at Blackhawk were the worst I've ever experienced. While you do get what you pay for, a fee of $60 feels excessive for this type of course, especially when you can find similar ones in much better condition for the same price.
Downhill is being generous
This course almost looks abandoned. Weeds have taken over. Greens are not kept up. Food is not prepped, so be sure to order ahead. I knew going in, that they are not the best course around. I can honestly say they must be the worst. I’ll never go back. Which is sad, because I am in the neighborhood behind the course.
