Blackhawk Golf Club
About
Blackhawk rests on the site of an old dairy farm, where the rolling terrain is suited for this links-style layout. This wide-open course features lots of water, loads of bunkers, and huge greens that are easy to three-putt if your approaches are off and you don’t have that feel for lag putting.
Each side has a punishing finishing hole. No. 9 is a monstrous par 4 that plays 464 yards. Off the tee, the narrow landing area is not conducive for the necessary booming drive, and the water causes problems in the fairway and around the green.
Hole 18 plays 430 yards, requiring a tee shot into the dogleg-right fairway that must thread two bodies of water.
The club prefers that you walk only on weekdays.
Getting there : Take I-35 north out of Austin, then exit FM 1825 east. Drive 5 miles to Hwy. 685 and turn left. Drive another 2.5 miles to Kelly Ln. and turn right.

No water and poor course conditioning
No water on course, no water available from cart service. Muddy areas and poor fairways and green conditions on every hole. Not worth the money.
Pasture pool
Overall the greens were in pretty good shape. The rest of the course, fairways and rough were in horrible condition.
Would not recommend this course to anyone unless they put a ton of work into returning this course to playable conditions like they were in the past.
Fun but unkempt
Was a fun course but the rough was extremely long and lost a lot of balls.
Work in progress
Greens are fast and flush. Fairway, not cut, crab grass to high to locate golf balls.
Playing a Cow Pasture
I’ll start by saying this course has so much potential. The course layout could be really fun if it was in far better conditions. Imagine mowing a fairway into a cow pasture and that’s Blackhawk. There is crab grass everywhere. So many dirt spots, holes, and trenches in the fairways. The greens were in okay condition and were the best part of the course. The pace of play was horrendous most of the golfers hacking their way around the golf course and have zero course etiquette. The group in front of us way playing so unbelievable slow. One guy would be on the green putting while the other 3 were searching for balls, twirling the clubs while walking around no where near the green or just overall doing nothing to keep the pace of play. They had zero interest in letting us play through, while all of this was happening people were jumping in front of us to make sure they finished and slowing the pace of play even more. Considering they are charging similar to course in the area that are far superior it makes no sense to ever play here.
Rehab Rounds
I have avoided this course for years due to bad reviews and overall condition. At 8 weeks past knee replacement, I needed a place to test my endurance and this course was good for my golf rehab. So much so, that I played a second round a week later. The positive things I can say are that they are trying to re-sod portions of the course and I didn't have to sink a lot of cash into my rounds, not knowing if I could finish. I did finish, both rounds, and after a few holes I stopped thinking about my repaired knee and just played golf. Now, some fairways are just beat up, so you have to improve your lie and play on. My biggest issue is that there are so many in play areas that just don't get mowed. Again, you just have to leave it to yourself to decide how to play. Greens have some rough spots, but are not horrible. They just play slow.
Rehab is over and I will move on to other courses. Thanks to Blackhawk for my golf rehab! Best wishes on continuing to improve your course.
Good Value
Decent prices but the rough/greens could use a little work.
Improvement
Greens are in shape and fast. Fairways have alot of crab weeds
If Normandy was a fairway
Impressive how solid the greens were but some of the absolute worst fairways in the Austin area by far #TrenchCity
Course in bad shape
Greens were in terrible shape pitted everywhere causing putts to bounce around, no water to drink on the course and bottled water at pro shop was $2:50 a bottle.
It’s unfortunate because the course layout is good but the each hole was in disrepair and not managed
Great place to play have fun.... Play golf
Great course to visit have a great time every time I'm there. Greens are in great condition prayer ways first respect
Good Course
Good course for the Value. Empty water jugs on course, bring or buy your own. Back nine got a little congested. No cart girl on a Friday, not sure on other days. I’d definitely play here again.
Disappointed
Used to be a nice course with friendly staff. That is not the case any longer. Right off the bat the gentleman at the clubhouse desk was rude, seemed confused and frustrated. The course is nice but in horrible condition. Lots of better places to play in the aeea for the price.
Great bang for your buck
Easily the quickest golf course in Austin area (aside from Lago Vista).
This place gets a bad rap but it is actually in fine condition and has some 500+ yard holes. I have never taken longer than 3 hours to finish a round and that is playing with other people.
Great bartender too.
All around good course for $25 afternoon rate
