Blackhawk Golf Club
About
Blackhawk rests on the site of an old dairy farm, where the rolling terrain is suited for this links-style layout. This wide-open course features lots of water, loads of bunkers, and huge greens that are easy to three-putt if your approaches are off and you don’t have that feel for lag putting.
Each side has a punishing finishing hole. No. 9 is a monstrous par 4 that plays 464 yards. Off the tee, the narrow landing area is not conducive for the necessary booming drive, and the water causes problems in the fairway and around the green.
Hole 18 plays 430 yards, requiring a tee shot into the dogleg-right fairway that must thread two bodies of water.
The club prefers that you walk only on weekdays.
Getting there : Take I-35 north out of Austin, then exit FM 1825 east. Drive 5 miles to Hwy. 685 and turn left. Drive another 2.5 miles to Kelly Ln. and turn right.

Need to go ahead and close this course
This is the worst excuse for a golf course. I was reluctant to play after so much rain, but I figured if the course is open and they are charging $30+, how bad can it be? I will not return to this course. The fairways are what I would call a pasture. Rocks, bare spots and major pot holes. I would not recommend this course at any price.
Don't waste your money
I played Blackhawk for the first time in 15 years and it has really fallen into a mess. Layout has changed due to house construction, but not for the better. Conditions on tees, fairways, and greens were awful. All Austin Muni's are in much better shape and much more cost effective. Pace of play was awful as they had zero course management, no starter. Don't waste your money, find another course.
The Worst Course Ever!!!! Please Read
Played the course today & left after 10 holes. The Course is in the worst condition I’ve seen in 20 years. No sand in Bunkers & grass has grown in each one of them. The fairways have holes all over them & the greens have dry spots all over them. The pace of play is the worst. We left at the 10 hole after 3 hrs with a pace of a 6 hr round. DO NOT PLAY HERE even if it’s free. I won’t ever come back. Go down the street to Star Ranch or Forest Creek.
Course in Terrible Shape
This course is in horrific condition!! Bunkers are completely mud filled (although they commented they were converting to grass bunkers), the fairways had little grass, lots of packed mud/dirt. The greens were in terrible shape..was like trying to putt on bad back yard. It was a windy day (but that's no fault of the course), and pace of play was very slow...we actually quit after nine holes. Would not recommend this course at all.
This course is in terrible shape - don’t waste your time and money.
Getting better
Fairways still spotty but greens are getting better . Observed them doing some work on sand traps. Hopefully once we get into the full swing of spring the course will be in better shape
Blackhawk
Course needs some attention greens are all spotty and it may be due to the snow and freeze but very bumpy very little grass in fairways and sand traps are full of weeds and mud. I use to play this course a lot back in the day and it has saddly gone down hill. Staff very friendly and hopefully this course will get back to what it use to be
Faded glory
The residents of Blackhawk need to get together and buy out whoever is managing this course. It is in awful shape.
The course needs some serious TLC
This is my 3rd time at this course over the last several years and the course conditions were equally bad every time. It looks like the course hasn't been maintained at all--- lot of bare spots on the tight fairways and rough; bunkers were rock hard with lots of debris; many of the greens were rock hard.
I don't expect conditions to reflect a private, country club, but I don't want to feel like I'm penalized for hitting on the fairway or worrying about seeing my putt sail by the hole by 10 feet.
I wouldn't come back unless the course sees a major overhaul.
It's Blackhawk. Affordable and laid back.
I like it because I can usually tee off with my wife and play as a just the two of us. She loves that because she gets nervous playing with people she doesn't know. Only because she feels bad for them, not her. She can get a round in under 4 hours on any course and shoot a 120. But she feels most at ease on this course. Other than that, nice course layout, bunkers are concrete, greens are hard as glass, but hey, you get what you pay for. Overall we like it enough to keep playing it.
Not as bad as suggested
BlackHawk needs some work there is no question to that. But the reviews make it seem unplayable which is not true. There are a lot of bare spots in the fairways, 18 is probably the worst. The traps are all over grown and little sand if any. But, the greens are in pretty good shape considering the deep freeze and snow we had in February. They rolled really well in my opinion. I would recommend giving it a try and see for yourself because you can’t beat the price. Just go in knowing to not play from the traps and move it out, find a good lie in the fairway close the where ball stopped and you’ll have a good time.
