Blackhawk Golf Club
About
Blackhawk rests on the site of an old dairy farm, where the rolling terrain is suited for this links-style layout. This wide-open course features lots of water, loads of bunkers, and huge greens that are easy to three-putt if your approaches are off and you don’t have that feel for lag putting.
Each side has a punishing finishing hole. No. 9 is a monstrous par 4 that plays 464 yards. Off the tee, the narrow landing area is not conducive for the necessary booming drive, and the water causes problems in the fairway and around the green.
Hole 18 plays 430 yards, requiring a tee shot into the dogleg-right fairway that must thread two bodies of water.
The club prefers that you walk only on weekdays.
Getting there : Take I-35 north out of Austin, then exit FM 1825 east. Drive 5 miles to Hwy. 685 and turn left. Drive another 2.5 miles to Kelly Ln. and turn right.

Not as bad as suggested
BlackHawk needs some work there is no question to that. But the reviews make it seem unplayable which is not true. There are a lot of bare spots in the fairways, 18 is probably the worst. The traps are all over grown and little sand if any. But, the greens are in pretty good shape considering the deep freeze and snow we had in February. They rolled really well in my opinion. I would recommend giving it a try and see for yourself because you can’t beat the price. Just go in knowing to not play from the traps and move it out, find a good lie in the fairway close the where ball stopped and you’ll have a good time.
Black Hawk in Terrible Shape
Worst course in the Austin area - I have seen better muni and military courses. Dry hard pan fairways and greens, dried out bunkers, I see absolutely no sign of maintenance. Place has gone downhill - needs to close and renovate. Not worth anywhere near a $45 green fee. Will not be back.
Hopefully better in the spring
Not sure if the winter storms were a factor but the grounds were pretty rough. Fairways were bumpy and rutted. Balls would roll forever on this very hard-packed ground. Very little green grass. Bunkers were full of vegetation. Pretty forgiving if you stray from the fairway. I am new to the area and this was my first time playing here. I'm hoping I have a different experience when I come back in the spring or summer.
Blackhawk Experience
This course definitely has some issues with conditions. Fairway lies are in most cases very thin, and there are many issues with ruts and craters throughout the course. The sand traps are literally unplayable with no sand and in many cases full of water. The greens are in decent condition, and for the most part roll true.
This course has it's issues, but the layout is fun and the pricing is hard to beat. Even with it's issues, it's a decent option during the week or weekend.
Really gone downhill
From the moment you step foot on the property you can feel the cheap. Horrible conditions… driving range so substandard. course is in ridiculously bad shape Only go if you have 0 other options
Decent for the money
Course could be in great shape come end of spring summer just needs some care. Was soft due to recent rain but not really any standing water. This is a short course and was a ton of fun to play not having to hit 5 irons into all the greens had to choose some holes not to hit driver to have a full wedge or short iron in. This course will test your short game.
