Blackhawk Golf Club
About
Blackhawk rests on the site of an old dairy farm, where the rolling terrain is suited for this links-style layout. This wide-open course features lots of water, loads of bunkers, and huge greens that are easy to three-putt if your approaches are off and you don’t have that feel for lag putting.
Each side has a punishing finishing hole. No. 9 is a monstrous par 4 that plays 464 yards. Off the tee, the narrow landing area is not conducive for the necessary booming drive, and the water causes problems in the fairway and around the green.
Hole 18 plays 430 yards, requiring a tee shot into the dogleg-right fairway that must thread two bodies of water.
The club prefers that you walk only on weekdays.
Getting there : Take I-35 north out of Austin, then exit FM 1825 east. Drive 5 miles to Hwy. 685 and turn left. Drive another 2.5 miles to Kelly Ln. and turn right.

Don't let the green grass from the road fool you
I played this course once last year and it was in need of attention to the fairways and greens. I passed the course and saw the 10th hole from the road and saw how nice it looked. I gave it a try and was totally disappointed. The fairways beyond the roads view have holes that look like potholes. Rough hadn't been cut so the weeds were waist high. The greens were the only part of the course that were a little better than average.
Great place to play
Great course to play. No sand right now, it's wet, greens aren't great. But for the dollars course is fun. Employees are very nice. Lots of wildlife and course is beautiful.
Not good
The course is not well maintained. Dirt patches in every fairway and messed up greens
Bad
This course was in very bad shape. Mud, dirt everywhere. Pot holes all over fairways and carts all in bad shape.
Clubhouse had a hole in the window, dirty.
Not recommended.
Terrible Condition & Very Slow Play.
I’ve been playing Golf in Austin for 20 years & have played here many times. I recently played here & I will never recommend this course to anyone. The course is in terrible shape. No sand in the bunkers, fairways have mud holes & the pace of play is terrible. DO NOT PLAY HERE!!!!! Period.
Course was fun
Due to the recent rains the course was beautiful and fun to play. The staff was friendly and good service. Made for a great afternoon of golf
Ignore the negative reviews!
Almost canceled due to multiple bad reviews. So glad We didn't. We end up having a great time. the course was in really good condition, including greens .I am not sure what all these negative people were talking about.I recommend you play this course and see for yourself.Food and drinks at the grill were also good. You may want to bring a smalle cooler as they only have bags of ice for the beer they sell.
Dog track
Fairways in poor shape lots of bare spots and weeds. Need a four wheel drive on most greens. Not a good course.
Affordable round
With Covid all courses are packed. BlackHawk has tee times and course conditions are consistently in decent shape for a solid round. Don’t expect a professional style course for the price, but always friendly staff and good course for the price.
conditions are about as bad as they get
Greens are bad and bumpy as heck, sand traps are mud puddles, and fairways don't really exist.
This is a $20/tee time course at most. Will not be playing here again unless prices drop substantially or course conditions improve drastically.
Awesome Track in Terrible Shape
We came here on Sunday to play because we showed up to Shadowglen beforehand only to find out it was closed due to flooding. +1 for Blackhawk! Got to the course and the staff was really friendly. Had a chat with the clubhouse attendant, then spoke to the starter Gary, who let us sneak out before our tee time when there was an opening.
That's when it went downhill, unfortunately.
Our cart had a flat tire, so we had to switch before we got to the first tee. I have a feeling it wasn't fixed, because on the back 9, a group hopped in front of us and had one of their carts stop in the middle of the path... Tons of issues with the basic stuff.
Then there was the course. It was muddy, sure, but even without the rain it needs WORK. Tee boxes were mostly dead or overgrown, fairways were either patchy with weeds or non-existent depending on the hole (17 looked like a war zone), and the greens were inconsistent at best. This course probably used to be nice, and you can see that under the poor maintenance, but man does it need work. Even if I hit the fairways, I was typically moving my ball out if a giant dirt mound, recently turf-covered sand trap, or low spot where water had no business collecting.
I'm glad they accommodated us so last-second, but after playing the track, I can see why. The staff was friendly, but I wouldn't recommend this course to anyone in its current state.
