Blackhawk Golf Club
About
Blackhawk rests on the site of an old dairy farm, where the rolling terrain is suited for this links-style layout. This wide-open course features lots of water, loads of bunkers, and huge greens that are easy to three-putt if your approaches are off and you don’t have that feel for lag putting.
Each side has a punishing finishing hole. No. 9 is a monstrous par 4 that plays 464 yards. Off the tee, the narrow landing area is not conducive for the necessary booming drive, and the water causes problems in the fairway and around the green.
Hole 18 plays 430 yards, requiring a tee shot into the dogleg-right fairway that must thread two bodies of water.
The club prefers that you walk only on weekdays.
Getting there : Take I-35 north out of Austin, then exit FM 1825 east. Drive 5 miles to Hwy. 685 and turn left. Drive another 2.5 miles to Kelly Ln. and turn right.

Mid Week Golf
I was pleasantly surprised by the conditions of the greens. Last time here they weren’t great so I wasn’t expecting much. Greens rolled great a fast.
Course is open but needs work
It is one of the few courses open at this time, but the course conditions need work. A good basic course but not one attractive to players used to better conditions. Manyhomes are fairly near the fairways..
Getting Better
Not the worst course I’ve ever been too. Pace of play is great, it’s never too busy here, and the tees and greens are improving. Must admit the fairways are barren in certain areas, but the value is definitely there. Solid course, inexpensive, and enjoyable. I can travel out to Manor or Lago Vista, even TeraVista anytime. Blackhawk is my “go-to” when I need the extra practice on an actual course.
A course that has terribly gone down hill!
Pretty sad the conditions of this course. The sand traps look like craters after a bomb went off. Crab grass is the official grass of the fairway. The rough, well, weeds that might eat you if you walk into them. Look else where to play.
Fun course
Really fun course to play. Sections of fairway can be a bit bumpy and hard, but the greens are all really solid. Very friendly staff - great value coming out to Blackhawk!
Getting better
This obviously isn’t a top notch course, BUT...if you’re wanting to play somewhere local, not extremely busy, and at a great VALUE, Black Hawk is the spot. The greens and fairways are getting MUCH BETTER. I played last week and hasn’t been in more than 3 weeks and saw a drastic improvement. Anyhow, it’s solid, and playable.
Needs TLC
The greens were in amazing shape but that is really the only redeeming quality of this course. The bunkers had weeds and standing water in them. The fairways were riddled with dead spots of grass or no grass at all.
MOO!
Though a nice layout, this course is literally in as bad a shape as any course I have ever played in 34 years of playing. A total shame. I'm not even sure how to describe it. Greens were surprisingly decent. Won't be back to Blackhawk.
Should have known better
Been here once before 5 years ago. Not good then. Awful now. Really bad.
Have you ever walked in a house and the smell of mildew carpet and cat litter box was so bad you had to leave or you would end up puking? That's what it's like playing this course. Except I'd already paid and had to stay.
I asked about the ownership.
I was told the course is for sale.
Makes sense.
Because this course is a joke.
Cow pasture
The course has a very nice layout, but apparently has not been maintained in a looong time. Weeds and bare spots all over the fairway, the bunkers, are nothing but mud and weeds...unplayable. The greens are in surprisingly good shape.
Pasture play
If you like playing golf in a weed infested barren course , then BlackHawk is for you! If you are skilled enough to land your drive on a six inch square of grass, then play isn’t bad. More dirt and weeds than grass. Bunkers are out of play (which is ok for me) but are a total eye sore. The course looked like it hadn’t been mowed in months, and definitely was not even what the least knowledgeable golfer would expect. When I played this course for 20 bucks, I never really noticed. But at 34, and couldn’t even take my wife as a tag a long for less than 20, heck no. I understand times are hard, and covid 19 has put a damper on everything, I also understand the reason for a cart rider fee, (people cheating the system, which sucks in its self) but dear lord... outrageous prices, crappy landscaping, and an over bad experience. Will not return.
Course review
Nice layout, great potential, but poorly maintained.
Good day of golf
Staff is friendly. Greens are in great shape. My friend made 4 birdies. Awesome to witness.
