Blackhawk Golf Club
About
Blackhawk rests on the site of an old dairy farm, where the rolling terrain is suited for this links-style layout. This wide-open course features lots of water, loads of bunkers, and huge greens that are easy to three-putt if your approaches are off and you don’t have that feel for lag putting.
Each side has a punishing finishing hole. No. 9 is a monstrous par 4 that plays 464 yards. Off the tee, the narrow landing area is not conducive for the necessary booming drive, and the water causes problems in the fairway and around the green.
Hole 18 plays 430 yards, requiring a tee shot into the dogleg-right fairway that must thread two bodies of water.
The club prefers that you walk only on weekdays.
Getting there : Take I-35 north out of Austin, then exit FM 1825 east. Drive 5 miles to Hwy. 685 and turn left. Drive another 2.5 miles to Kelly Ln. and turn right.

A Must!
Absolutely awesome course and challenging as well. Better yet, Thank you to the staff as I left my wallet in my cart that ran out of battery on the course (which they quickly brought me a new one fully charged) and when I brought the cart in at the finish, he handed it back to me. Job well done and I will be back soon. Thank You
Fun course to play
The fairways are not in the best condition but the layout of the course was fun. Overall we would play this course again. If the fairways don't improve the hard pan on the fairways should allow the ball to roll forever. There was no beverage cart but igloo coolers were available.
Needs maintenance
The course could be in better shape, most fariways had dry spots without grass.
Course conditions
Greens were bad shape. The fairways were bare of grass in many places
Rough shape
Blackhawk is never in great shape but the fairways are very spotty and the greens are in bad shape. Kind of amazing since we have had quite a bit of rain.
Course was wet and rain came during the round
Nice course, play was slow due to cart path only, and full up. Many were ready to get out and play no matter what.
DO NOT BOOK at This COURSE!! Take your Biz Elsewhere
Booked an 18 hole tee time for 3:00pm that was not listed as a twilight round. Upon getting to the course for the first time they expected me to know this was a twilight booking and 18 holes was out of the question. In fact, finishing 9 holes was essentially out of the question as there was no carts available until after our scheduled tee time. Played quick ready golf while the golfers behind us hit into us and the group in front of us played dangerously slow. The proshop would not issue any raincheck or refund. I wish I would have taken my business elsewhere so I recommend you do the same.
Seen Better Days.
I really can't complain since I only paid $4 after some Hot Deal credits. The course itself is in terrible condition. There is ant mounds everywhere on the fairway. The fairway itself has a lot of issues going on it.
The greens were spray painted to give a "green" feel. Bunkers were inconsistent(hard/mud pits)
Again, I really can't be too hard since I didnt pay much.
Nice course, nice layout
Played Blackhawk yesterday and was impressed by the overall condition and playability of the course. Got to the course one and a half hours early and the Pro shop attendant was courteous enough to let me go out early. I planned on playing 18 holes but my wife started to feel badly and I quit after the front nine. Greens and tees were in great condition. Fairways and traps needed a little TLC. Had a great time there and will return at a later date.
This course is currently horrible!
The greens have an insane amount of pot holes all over the place. The bunkers are basically small ponds. Definitely not worth the $42. Will not attend again.
Sunday at Blackhawk with the Wife
Found a great deal on GolfAdvisor for $28.50 for 2 on weekend. Wife has been taking lessons and wanted to go somewhere new (for her). Actually teed off a few minutes for our time as the course was not crowded. We played the front 9 in 1 hour 20 minutes-she is nervous about others pushing us but not the case here. She really enjoyed it but was done after 9. I played the back nine solo thru # 14 then called it a day. Greens were in good shape & fairways were decent for this time of year after a hot summer. I played #18 on way back in and finished in 2 hours exactly. Looking forward to finding another deal so we can play again.
Hot deal
Good course, they always need a little attention
Good round after a week of rain
The course was in decent condition considering it rained for a week straight ending 3 days ago. Grass was high in places, some standing water, sand traps were hard as a rock, and some debris from obvious signs of flood were still on the course. Fairways were in good condition and the greens were in good condition. Overall good shape just needs a little more upkeep.
Good overall course
Played on 07/31/16. Course was in decent shape, with excellent greens but fair fairways. From what I've heard, it is in the best shape that it's been in years. Great experience playing here. If you value good greens, then you gotta play this course.
Great Value
I played the ladies' tees and it was a little longer than most of the courses in this area. Lots of water hazards--want to play this course again now that I know where they are!
Good course.
Greens and fairways are in excellent shape. Sand traps were mostly unplayable due to recent rains. Fun course.
Not what it used to be
I used to play this course on a fairly regular basis, around seven or eight years ago. Haven't been back in a long time for various reasons, but I was excited to play it again as I remembered it being a fun course. Woah boy was I in for a shock!
The course was in extremely poor shape. It's basically like they fired their grounds crew and haven't hired anyone to replace them. The fairways were in awful condition - huge patches of dirt everywhere, huge patches of weeds that were two feet tall or higher, huge swaths of crabgrass and St. Augustine in the fairways and immediately around them, and half the greens were in such bad shape that it was like putting on the surface of the moon with all of it's craters.
On top of that, there was no cart girl like there used to be, the clubhouse was completely run down, and the grill was out of just about everything, and they no longer had the call ahead number posted on the tee markers so you could order food ahead. I ordered a "deli sandwich" off their "Grab-N-Go" menu so as not to slow down our play, and I still had to wait for the only person working the entire grill to make it for me. Even worse, they only offered turkey and ham. To top it off, they were out of lettuce, so I wound up with two slices of pre-packaged turkey on bread (of which there was no choice), with a single slice of American cheese and a single tomato slice. No mayo or mustard offered or available. And I had to wait for the one person working to take three other people's orders and serve them before she made my joke of a sandwich.
Play was extremely slow. It took our foursome five hours to finish 18 holes because we got backed up by another foursome ahead of us who took as long as they wanted. The course marshal was only seen at the first tee box when we started our round, and never seen again.
Needless to say, we won't be returning here to play, especially not at their normal price of $39 each without a cart.
Yikes
The course was in TERRIBLE condition. Sand traps were rock hard. Fairways had massive mud patches where grass obviously doesn't ever grow. Greens were covered in weeds. Course played SO SLOW. No Marshall and no cart girl. Had a 5-some cut in front of us at turn...where is the Marshall? Will not be back.
