About

Holes 18
Type Public
Style Links
Par 72
Length 7072 yards
Slope 125
Rating 74.5

Blackhawk rests on the site of an old dairy farm, where the rolling terrain is suited for this links-style layout. This wide-open course features lots of water, loads of bunkers, and huge greens that are easy to three-putt if your approaches are off and you don’t have that feel for lag putting.

Each side has a punishing finishing hole. No. 9 is a monstrous par 4 that plays 464 yards. Off the tee, the narrow landing area is not conducive for the necessary booming drive, and the water causes problems in the fairway and around the green.

Hole 18 plays 430 yards, requiring a tee shot into the dogleg-right fairway that must thread two bodies of water.

The club prefers that you walk only on weekdays.

Getting there : Take I-35 north out of Austin, then exit FM 1825 east. Drive 5 miles to Hwy. 685 and turn left. Drive another 2.5 miles to Kelly Ln. and turn right.

Course in awful condition. No drinking water on course.

I’ve lived in Austin almost 20 years and I used to play here regularly over 10 years ago. The course has never been in 10 out of 10 condition, but this is the worst I’ve ever seen it. 2/10 condition.

The greens are absolutely awful looking. They don’t roll terribly slow, but for the most part, they look terrible and they play just as bad as they look.

It’s mid May and there was not one single water station on the golf course that had cold water and a couple of them didn’t even have the ice chest in there. That’s just brutal and added it on top of the fact that the course conditions are the way they were even spending less than $20 on the round. I feel like I overpaid.

This course was in horrible condition. Greens were half dead and full of holes and grass patches. Tee boxes full of weeds and uneven. Pot holes in the fairways where the grass has dried up. Bunkers have been removed and not sodded over. Green aeration was done however, aeration requires top dressing which was not done. Clubhouse restrooms were totally disgusting.and firthy. I don't know how this course stays in business.

It ain’t pretty

First time playing in this area. The courses with available tee times either had awful reviews or cost $120+ or both. I paid about $50 to play this course but would never pay that at home for this quality of course. But I ain’t home. The greens were ugly with spotty grass, some grass patches separated by bare areas. Didn't look smooth and were slow. But having to hit putts firm helped hold their lines so wasn’t terrible, just bad. The fairways were also spotty but I improved my lies and moved the ball to grass if necessary. There were some tough to see hazards but a local gave me good info to avoid. Check the layout on scorecard each hole before getting off. Not much rough to speak of and pretty open. It was good enough for a practice round in beautiful weather. Maybe it will be better once the grass fills in as summer progresses.

You get what you pay for.

Got a super cheap greens fee, but now I know why. Fairways were patchy and had fire ants (yes I got bit a few times). Some of the flags wouldn’t stay up, and the cart path was windy and tilted. The greens had just been aerated and sanded, but I ok with improvements so hopefully it helps.

Don’t waste your time

So i get to the course 1 hour before my tee time to warm up. When i get to the club house to check In the attendant wasn’t the friendliest. I asked him to get a bucket of balls and he said range was closed because the “ kids “ weren’t there yet to pick the balls up from the practice range. Then i asked him for the cart and he said i couldn’t get it because the have tee time in front of me and they need the carts. Practice greens are horrible. Staff is horrible. No cart girls around the course. This place should be ashamed charging what they do for a round.
