Blackhawk Golf Club
About
Blackhawk rests on the site of an old dairy farm, where the rolling terrain is suited for this links-style layout. This wide-open course features lots of water, loads of bunkers, and huge greens that are easy to three-putt if your approaches are off and you don’t have that feel for lag putting.
Each side has a punishing finishing hole. No. 9 is a monstrous par 4 that plays 464 yards. Off the tee, the narrow landing area is not conducive for the necessary booming drive, and the water causes problems in the fairway and around the green.
Hole 18 plays 430 yards, requiring a tee shot into the dogleg-right fairway that must thread two bodies of water.
The club prefers that you walk only on weekdays.
Getting there : Take I-35 north out of Austin, then exit FM 1825 east. Drive 5 miles to Hwy. 685 and turn left. Drive another 2.5 miles to Kelly Ln. and turn right.

Poor Course Quality on Front 9
Back 9 was perfectly fine. Some of the holes on the front 9 were tough to play on. Extremely patchy greens we causing balls to dribble on putts. Some of the fairways needed a haircut. Overall, playing golf anywhere is fun, I just expected a little more out of it for the money I spent. Also, be prepared to lose some balls to water unless you bring your golf GPS. Lots of tricky spots where you don't see a creek from a tee box. Would go back if they lowered prices. I've played better courses for cheaper.
Course Needs Work
Drives down the middle don’t end up with a good lie. The amount of sand and dirt patches on the greens is about a 50/50 split compared to grass. This course needs a lot of work and should be half the price of what they’re charging. That said, the martial and grill staff were friendly and we still had a good time.
DO NOT PLAY THIS GOLF COURSE
I'm in my mid 60s. I've been playing golf since I was about 8 years old. This is the worst golf course I have ever played. Tee boxes were ok at best. Fairways were terrble. Mud, dirt, very littel grass. Greens were worse. No bathrooms. No water to drink. No cart person to buy water or other drinks from. Old and outdated carts. No yardage markers. I actually feel bad for the folks that work here because they were actually very nice and respectful. We stopped after 9 holes as we could not take it anymore. All the recent reviews that give this place one star are completely accurate. Shame on me for not checking out the reviews before we played.
Golf course?
I think i booked a tee time at a local golf course but when i arrived it was more like a warzone. I didn’t know i enlisted in the army when i signed my waiver. The layout isn’t bad but the actual fairways are pretty similar to the journey Frodo had to destroy the ring. Found at least 10 balls in the fairway. I assume people just quit mid round. I finished the whole 18 with all my limbs still attached but broke every tee due to the asphalt like grass. Definitely would recommend playing putt putt in a prison yard with a 12 inch adult toy vs this course.
Been 6 yrs ....still nothing
Finally get an opportunity to go play a round in the evening...... book the tee time on golf now ...... I have to pay for 2 spots for a single( that's the way Blackhawk has had it setup on golfnow since they wanted to make more money )
Drive 30 minutes
Arrive
Clerk acts like he knows nothing about golfnow reservations and doesnt even have a chip reader for your debit card or touchless pay.
My card is worn .... so what? ........i go to the convience store and had just used it
Clerk enters the card into his system still nothing.
" The course is very busy sir and even If you pay for 4 tee times....
We probably couldn't accomodate a single this evening."
Wow !... but its been like this since I've been in Austin
Rude attendant/ clerk and lazy too accomodate anything
Shout out to the best in Austin and around Star Ranch,The Bandit, Grey Rock..... Bastrop River Club had the best employees and it totally made up for course conditions. Played there for 3 yrs till they closed
If you dont want to work on a golf course please find something else to do
100% of people going to the golf course do not want to deal with over worked, rude, no help employees
The exact opposite of what golf etiquette is supposed to be
Last time i went , the Marshall harrassed me and my 15 yr old son accusing us of going off the cart path and threatened to sell our clubs...... i told him that we didnt go off the cart path and it was the truth
what a joke
So ..... what could I expect? A nice evening?
I had to drive 30 minutes back home and not play.
Thanks Management of Blackhawk
Only thing that has changed there in 6 years in the roundabout
The highway dept bulds an entire street and roundabout in the time it takes for this place to do absolutely nothing to better itself
What a joke
Cola vista is the same as well
Turned up excited to play - Walked off after 9 holes.
I arrived at Blackhawk Golf Club genuinely excited to play. We had absolutely beautiful Texas sunshine and just enough wind to make you think about a one-club difference.
While the parking area is reasonably nice, the experience soured the moment I walked into the pro shop. I’d have been forgiven for thinking I’d insulted the shopkeeper’s mother given the way he dealt with me. He took my payment in full and only then decided to mention the "cart path only" rule. When I asked about the practice facilities, I was told the driving range was closed; when I asked about the putting and chipping areas, he simply pointed a finger outside. I then asked where I could buy a bottle of water, and he wordlessly pointed toward the bar.
I proceeded to stand at the bar for five minutes before being acknowledged. Ironically, that ended up being my "best" interaction with the staff, despite the inexplicably long wait for a single bottle of water.
The practice green was a shock—it was essentially just sand. I’m from the UK, where we often use temporary greens while the primary ones are being treated. Usually, that just involves the ground staff cutting a hole in the fairway and drawing a circle around it. This was comfortably worse than any "green" I have ever seen.
The starter was fine, though he had about as much charm as a Toby jug. By this point, the wind had been taken out of my sails. Since I hadn’t seen anyone tee off the 1st for twenty minutes, I asked to head out early. Once on the course, the greens were passable at a push, but the layout is a fairly boring "straight-away" design and the grounds are generally poorly maintained.
The only positive was that we were flying through as a two-ball until the 7th hole (another abysmal green, much like the 5th). We then ran into a massive bottleneck; by the 8th, there were four tee times backed up on a single tee box. It took as long to play the 8th and 9th holes as it did to play the previous seven.
I walked off after nine. I understand that $50 isn’t a fortune for golf in the States, but I still expect some level of value. I’ll never return, as this remains one of the worst experiences I’ve had on a golf course.
Course full of weeds and water puddles, no drainage. Cart path only and shoes muddy walking course. Greens were horrible, full of sand and mud. Mounds of mud balls rolling into. Overall needs major maintenance especially for the price they are asking. Home course but in bad conditions right now.
This course needs to be shutdown
For the people who argue and say golf courses are a waste of space they’re wrong. Except for this one, the lack of effort and commitment to make any part of this course acceptable shows they’ve completely given up on it. Will never return.
Pitiful
Driving range is closed and putting greens are rotted out and the parking lot would be better practice with less bumps.
Blackhawk Golf Club Review
The aesthetics of the course are great, but once you tee off is where this course falls off. The tee boxes are in decent condition, but the fairways are balding in spots, and the greens are the worst I’ve seen in my life. $65 for a golf round in Austin is a value but not for what this course put out as it stood. Hopefully the rains can assist where the fairways came up short and the greens need love asap. Wouldn’t recommend to a friend but if it’s the only option with the way the city courses have their tee times set up you may have no choice like I did for an early tee time on a Saturday.
Worst Course I’ve Ever Played
I can confidently say Black Hawk is the worst course I’ve ever played. Most of the fairways looked more like an artillery range than a golf course and it was a coin flip if you were going to have actual grass on the greens. Today was cart path only and I believe that was more so about keeping the carts in good condition than the course. Absolutely will not be back.
Course conditions
Greens were in terrible shape. I woukd not even call them greens. Very on even and mostly sand and rough grass. Been there before and the greens were alot better. Layout of course is good.
Horrible
There are weeds on the greens and weeds everywhere. Very minimal real grass.if someone put some money into it. It could be nice.
Didn't even finish round
You saw the title, it was so bad and slow I had to leave. I went to the clubhouse and had them put me on the banned list so I wouldn't make the mistake of booking a round here again
Worst "Golf Course" I have played in my 10 years of golf
First review I have ever written for anything.
This is genuinely the worst golf course that I have ever played in my life. I was playing with two buddies who don't get out much so we decided to play somewhere that was on the cheaper side and had plenty of tee times available.
We got paired up with Ed who turned out to be the only bright spot of the day. The tee boxes are a joke, the fairways have chasms in them that have been carved out by heavy rains. There are a few that we almost got thrown from the cart on because we were looking for a ball driving down the middle of the fairway and out of nowhere a 3 foot drop hits us. Its like Indiana Jones out there.
The greens...I have not seen greens this bad since Bob Does Sports brought Joey Cold Cuts to the links at victoria. im talking 3-6 inch craters all over the greens. Absolutely no grass to speak of. This place is a minefield.
To top it all off, the Marshall was a total dick and told us to speed it up twice when there was maybe 5 other souls on the course and no one behind us. We were even playing a scramble and played the front in an hour 50. Despite that, he still came up to us a second time telling us to speed it up saying "there is a hole open ahead of you" to which I responded, "we have had a hole open in front since we teed off." To his credit he apologized and moved on, but the audacity to move people along on a course in this type of shape is insane. I felt like they should have been paying us for playing the course at all.
They also don't have a liquor license and the beers are surprisingly expensive. All in all, I would not pay 5 dollars to play here again, let alone 50.
