Elks Run Golf Club
About
Elks Run Golf Club in Batavia was designed by Greg Norman. It sprawls across 163 lush and secluded acres where golfers will be hard-pressed to find a home anywhere close to the course. Norman carefully utilized the natural terrain, incorporating the meandering creek on several holes and also adding a few holes that venture up the side of a hill. Thanks to the dramatic elevation changes, there are some tees where your ball seems to stay in the air forever. The first nine is more open with a traditional links-style layout that then leads to the more densely wooded back nine. In addition to the trees and other natural hazards, there is also an unusually thick first cut of rough as well as tall stands of native grasses.

Elks Run 9th Tee, short but challenging with a view of what is to come. Photo submitted by msparke on 10/25/2012
Fairway conditions
The fairways were very wet due to the downpour of rain the two previous days and it was cart path only. I am not a greens expert but it seemed to me that they are almost mowing the fairways too short and making a wet situation worse. There were several areas on the course that seemed almost skinned. Due to the heat and humidity it wasn't the most fun day but I so enjoyed the ambience of the natural setting and watching birds and butterflies. On a cooler and less wet day, I would have loved it.
Here and There
Went to play this course one morning with my brother and a couple friends with a golf now rate. I don't support golf now, so I paid the actual rate. Course was in decent shape. Bunkers are not playable whatsoever, course was a bit soggy, not sure because of rain or overwatering. The staff was ok. Pro-Shop staff was a little rude but nothing major, the bartender was super nice on the other hand, the ranger also didn't greet us properly. All in all a here and there experience. I will be back.
Overrated and condescending
This course isn't bad but nowhere near what they think it is. The first thing you notice if you use GolfNow is that you're treated as if they are giving you a gift. You are somehow less important for booking with the GolfNow app to them. I guess that wouldn't be so bad if this were a first class golf course. It's not. The layout is fine, tee boxes and fairways are good, but greens are so chewed up it looks like a $10 course. The pace of play is slow on a good day, and grueling on a busy day. I suggest spending a few extra dollars and going to Stonelick. Or if you want to play cheap, go to Cedar Trace down the road. I've played here three times but I won't be back.
Outstanding layout
A magnificent design however damaged on back nine due to recent flooding. All sand traps were unplayable with substantial washout. Not sure if related to the recent rain and availability of maintenance crew however the area identified as heather is all weeds which is a substantial departure from previous times here...overgrowth prevalent on majority of course and ponds have top scum. Pace of play extremely slow with no course rangers present and no cart refreshments provided.
Elks run
I have played here before a few times. The course is currently in poor condition. Sand traps are unplayable. They have no sand. Greens and fairways were a bit shaggy. Layout and routing is good
Good value
The staff was extremely nice. A staff member met our car in the lot with a cart. He met us after to drive it away after our round. Starter and ranger were helpful and visible. No problem with play. Sunday afternoon round finished in 4 hours.
Tee boxes were in good shape, fairways watered, groomed and in good repair. Greens were a little beat up. It was later in the day and the course was soft.
Will go back.
Great track
Nice layout, good combination of long and short holes with lots of fescue, some too deep to find/play - keep it in the fairways. Greens rolling very nicely.
One of the best places to play
I have to play were I can get Hotdeals. When I see this course at a price I can afford, I can't pass it up such as this week end. Thanks Golf Now. this is my #1 Course I have played in Ohio.
Nice course.
Very nice track, but pace was quite slow.
The course
Bring a lot of balls. Course will eat them.
Nobody got hurt
It is a fun golf course and in great shape. Good value. My only question is how great this course could have been if there was more land to work with. Course is very tight in regards to layout. But fun to play, challenging, and not build in the middle of a subdivision, which is a huge plus. Great holes: 13 (long narrow green, pin placement dictates 2nd shot), 8 (short down hill par 3, good luck when wind is up), 15 (Par 5, laying up on the left side of the fairway not advisable).
Worth the drive
Back 9 is quite a bit tougher than the front. Greens a little slow, but there's been a lot of rain lately. Clubhouse is very nice, prices on food and drink are reasonable.
Great course in Cincinnati.
Great fun course to play with a ton of different looks. I have played this course about 16 times and my only complaint would be the pace of play. You will always be out on course for 5 hrs or longer for 18. If you have the time, great course.
Great day
What a nice day of golf at s great price on golf now !
Course was in great shape and enjoyed the round !!
Slow play
Pace of play turned what could have been an exceptional round into an average round.
Well Worth It!
Despite the snow and cold temps as of late this course was in outstanding shape. The wind conditions will wreak havoc on your shots due to the many elevation changes, but I think that makes the course more endearing.
The staff was outstanding! Very friendly and extremely helpful. I live on the west side of Cincinnati, and I will happily make the drive to play here again and again!
Elks Run GC
Excellent course. The facility was well appointed and the staff was friendly. I highly recommend this course!!
Always a Challenge When Putting on Verified Greens
It was nice that via GolfNow, you could see that the greens have been recently aerified. We knew what we were getting into. It looked like they JUST aerified them the day before or that morning. The only issue was that the holes weren't quite filled in throughout and some areas still had a lot of sand on the surface. Hmmm.... what's it like putting through a bunker? Now I know. I 4-putted from 12 feet out. But, we knew that going in. The price was good.
The rest of the course was in great shape as usual. The pace was great on the front, but on the back, I think the guys in front of us were starting to get drunk and were hitting the ball all over the place. One guy left his putter 3 holes back. LOL.
So, it is what it is. Tis the season of aerification, don't pay full price.
What a bargain
By comparison to Shaker Run the next day this was
like playing Augusta
