Elks Run Golf Club
About
Elks Run Golf Club in Batavia was designed by Greg Norman. It sprawls across 163 lush and secluded acres where golfers will be hard-pressed to find a home anywhere close to the course. Norman carefully utilized the natural terrain, incorporating the meandering creek on several holes and also adding a few holes that venture up the side of a hill. Thanks to the dramatic elevation changes, there are some tees where your ball seems to stay in the air forever. The first nine is more open with a traditional links-style layout that then leads to the more densely wooded back nine. In addition to the trees and other natural hazards, there is also an unusually thick first cut of rough as well as tall stands of native grasses.

Elks Run 9th Tee, short but challenging with a view of what is to come. Photo submitted by msparke on 10/25/2012
Well maintained and different looks
I like the variety and mix of holes. Challenge to keep it in play . It is not a course where you try to blast every shoot. Thought and postioning come into to play.
First time at Elks Run-It Was Great!
I have waited a long time and finally got the opportunity (and a deal) to play Elks Run and I was not disappointed! The course was in great shape and a blast to play! I'm looking forward to playing there again soon!
A Jewel
A must play course. It's worth a 2 hour drive once a summer.
Elks Run May 28th 2014
Great layout, great course, really good conditions and good value. Would recommend this course to anyone. A must play if you are in the Cincinnati area in late spring or early summer. Will definitely be back.
One of the better courses inthe area.
It is a challenging and very scenic course. It is a nice course to play.
Great course beautiful scenery
Unfortunately we didn't have great weather but otherwise the course is in great shape. Very challenging but also fair if you hit your shots. Excellent value, likely because it is a bit of a drive.
Shot making course
This was my first time playing this course and will return. Challenging shot making course on several of the holes. Course was in good shape and it seems they have a very good staff taking care of it.
One of my Favorite Courses!!!!
We get to play this course 7-10 times a year and still my Favorite!!!!
"Slight Inconvenience"
Booked almost 24hrs in advance. Showed up and was told the front nine is closed for aeration. "Sorry for the slight inconvenience and we had no way of contacting you." I was offered to play the back nine twice. I opted for just the back nine once, paying 2/3 of the rate I booked to play all 18. The back nine had been aerated so the greens were littered with holes and a layer of sand. I do realize the importance of aeration; but to tell me its only a slight inconvenience and that you didn't have my contact information is just ridiculous. I would've just come visit another week. I enjoy playing this course, Its always kept so nice. The grounds crew does a fabulous job. I just feel like the office should offer the people that show up to your door on these days a better option than "oh well".
An Absolute Gem!
I'm a scratch golfer, so I appreciate a great layout in great shape. In my first time out to Elks Run this May, I was in golf heaven! This Greg Norman layout is beautiful. The course uses the lay of the land in such an amazing way(from an architectural point of view). Lots of forced carries, elevated greens guarded by a lake, or a creek that runs throughout. This course can be challenging, and many tee shots require pin point accuracy off the tee, but with 4 sets of tees, I think this course is friendly to all types of golfers. I will be back here again and again. Greens were rolling about a 10, and will probably get quicker as summer "rolls" in. Overall, a great experience. I highly recommend playing this track!
Already in tournament form
Elks Run is already in the kind of shape I would expect a course to be in by mid summer. Very impressed with the greens and overall condition of the course from tee to green. Pin placements were tough in some spots but all the tees were moved up so it evened out.
Nice Course - Slow Play
On the plus side this course has some interesting holes, with several tees well above the fairway or green. Fairways were in good shape, greens rolled ok but were a little slow.
When you enter the property you immediately are in a parking lot near the cart barn and driving range. I could not figure out where the club house was or what I was supposed to do. Eventually I drove along the only road I could see, a narrow road that looked more like a cart path. I ended up in a smaller parking lot next to a very nice club house. After checking in I was told that what I did was ok, but the intent is to park at the cart barn and take a cart to the club house for check-in. There are no obvious signs directing first timers on how to proceed to check-in. This method seems a little awkward when 4 golfers arrive at different times.
On this day, we were playing on Easter Sunday, and did not expect a crowd. Starting out the parking lot and course did not look crowded.
Riding, our foursome played the front 9 in 2 hrs, occasionally waiting a few minutes to hit. We played the back in 3 hrs. with long waits on every shot on every hole. I knew we were in trouble on the back when we went to #10 tee and there was a group in the fairway as well as a group on the green. Not sure where the problem was, but it was somewhere in front of the two or 3 groups in front of us. Somewhere around #14 or 15 we called the clubhouse and ask if there were any rangers on the course that might rectify this, or if they were aware of slow play on the back. The answer was no and although they apologized, we were told there was nothing they could do. I don't know if 3 hrs is standard pace of play on the back nine, which is a little tighter than the front, but I doubt if I'll go back. I can't imagine what it's like if the course is crowded.
Pace of play
We played 14 holes in 4 hours. Was a little disappointed that there was so many two somes on the course and they were not paired up and knapp was backed up on the back nine. We had 4 groups on the 15th hole waiting to play.
Elks Run
Very well maintained. The greens were smooth & fast, fairways were in very good condition and the rough was fair and playable.
Great layout.
Course in good shape for the amount of rain and this time of year in SW Ohio. Pace of play was excellent.
We only had 3 golfers as an illness took one of the guys out. We were told the fourth T-time purchased had to be taken up with Golf Now. So were out $21.00.

Denny L.
Great value
Well designed course in surprisingly good shape for this time of year. Nice bar with friendly staff.
Nice track With new owners
Course is shaping up fast this spring.Maintenance personal were out in full force doing a great job.
Early season
Course was in good shape for this early in the season. Would be nice if they could get out and clean the place up a bit. Lots of debris, sticks still laying all over and washed out bunkers from the winter.
Awesome in December
Had a foursome in December. A little chilly but the clubhouse was open and had hot food in December. A lot of places just have pro shop open that late in the year. Course was in really good condition for the time of year.
Wide forgiving fairways
I had wanted to try Elks Run for the longest time but didn't want to pay their high greens/cart fees. I got it off golfnow and tried the course.
It is a very pleasant course but I believe it is over rated especially the slope/course ratings. I believe them to be easier that what is shown.
Overall I did enjoy myself .
