Fun course....Horrible customer service
Fairways -Decent.
Lay out- Fun
Greens- great shape
No driving range
Customer service is really disappointing. Made for a rough first impression for some new players to the course.
Best value in the I.E.
Rancho Del Sol offers the best course for the money in all of the Inland Empire. Wonderful Pete Dye design with tees to fit every level of player. The staff is top notch in treating you as a valued customer. The course conditions are good with outstanding greens. Only negative is the clubhouse which will be replaced hopefully this year. Typical weekday rounds are under 4 hours. Highly recommended!
Good, But a Work in Progress
High marks for value and staff friendliness. Less than average marks for amenities like the rumored coming hitting bays and clubhouse. No need to arrive too early, as they always seem to be short of carts, and they won't let you have one until just before tee time. This sometimes leads to a bit of a scramble around the starter. Also, they've been in temporary facilities for two years now with no sign of progress on permanent digs.
The layout is a course of two halves, The front nine is great if you're on the fairway or the greens, but more than a bit barren if you're in the ravines. The back nine is new, and has a great layout, and excellent fairways and greens.
Overall, I would recommend the course, but I'm anxious to see it live up to its potential.
Enjoyable
One of my favorite courses to play in the I.E. The staff is one of the best i have ever dealt with. A lot better than some of the more expensive courses I have been to. Challenging course for sure with plenty of scenic holes to play. The greens are nice and roll decently quick. Not slow at all. An all around good course. Give it a try if you get the chance
Worst staff
All staff was horrible except Hoku who was the manager I believe. He really understood us and if it wasn’t for him we would have left. I know we were trying to play a five sum and you guys have your rules but we drove from LA to spend time with family. Marshall’s we’re rude from the beginning and kept stopping us from playing after we spoke to Hoku and allowed us to enjoy our game. Hoku even came out again and talked to us but because we kept getting stopped we were holding up the people behind us. Worst experience I’ve had playing and on top of that we were buying a lot of drinks from you guys. Drink lady was the best.
Golf Cart Problem
Every time I’ve played this course they never have enough golf carts and it’s almost guaranteed an hour delay from my start time.
Friendly staff
The best part of the golf course is the friendly staff. The guys taking the carts at the end of the round wiped off the clubs and had a pleasant conversation. The greens are nicely kept. However, the rough is not maintained with dry dirt, weeds, and copper holes, which at times bleed onto the fairways. Most of the fairways are on good condition. I give them credit that they are trying to keep it up. It's obvious on the 18th hole. From the tee box to the greens look like they are in PGA condition, with fresh dark green sod on a perfectly level tee box. Overall, it's a nice course.
Get the course back to glory
I have played at the course when it was Moreno Valley Ranch and now as Rancho Del Sol. I understand it must be tough to bring a course back to life after it sits idle for however long the initial closure lasted. As some of the other reviews mentioned the initial perception will usually paint the picture for the future impressions and patronage. The amount of scraggly, dead areas seems to be excessive, all the courses in So. Cal. have to fight the often arid and drought prone conditions, so IMO it would be wise to intentionally "rough up" the areas that make maintenance difficult and/or costly. Those areas can then be used to frame the fairways visually, at that point, more effective attention and maintenance can be placed on the actual areas that are in play. As it stands now, the scraggly areas appear to be encroaching onto the fairways, which does nothing positive for the course perception and is probably the biggest culprit to the more negative. comments. Some other courses have actually laid down artificial turf and over-seeded the high traffic areas to ease the strain on keeping those areas green. Secondly, I can't speak to any former, or possible current vandalism, but having a building with boarded up windows again just adds to the negative visual perceptions. Even if the interior of the building isn't yet functional, having the exterior look intact will increase patrons impressions to a more positive level. There are many positives about the course, the greens, staff, being a Dye design, the back nine, beautiful views, etc... I realize that I'm not a designer, greenskeeper, superintendent, or general manager, but I've seen these suggestion work at other area courses and hope they'll be considered as a way to get Rancho Del Sol to a more viable, profitable facility. We need all the good courses we can get. Thanks for reading this long.
Great Layout
The course is in good condition.. the greens and bunkers are in top shape.Fairways and tee boxes were up to par with other Inland Empire four star courses.
Ouch! This place needs some love
When u pull in and the parking lot is a mess and not manicured your hopes for the course are pretty low. Front 9 is a disaster, tore up fairways and mud everywhere once you hit hole 3. Fist hole not bad and 2 is hard to mess up a short par 3.
Greens aren’t too green but still in decent condition. Tee boxes are a challenge of their own to find level ground.
For $75 Im not asking for a perfect course but a decent one at least.
Course ready to close after new condos built.
No driving range, not even a small area with a net to warm up in! Most traps resembled sandy river bottoms and not raked for a while if ever. Some traps had foot deep holes!. Stairs were in poor shape and dangerous. Most of your palm trees need serious attention. Tee markers didn't make any sense as to yardage and position. Penalty markers/stakes were confusing if not absent. The whole course appeared shoddy, needing much needed repairs. No yardage markers in the ground on the tees. One strange (16th?)par 3 has no bailout area. Why! The only great positive on the course were the greens. Smooth, fast and hard. Of course we can't forget the 18th hole which looked like it was in the process of being prepared for a Real Estate photo shoot. Least I forget your lake boundary walls which resembled a civil war battleground site. Will be closed witin 2 years.
