The greens were super fast. Tough to get any workable backspin. They need to" lush" them up, for sure.. like putting on a driveway

Fast, hard greens. Slow seasonal play. If you prefer playing faster more affordable rounds just wait till April. River Run is fun to play off season but too crowded at this time of year when you have to wait before every shot. Leave the driver at home and just keep it in play on this hazard filled layout. Bunkers are consistent.

Tee areas in good shape. The course has practice nets and balls for pre-round warm up and a practice green that is faithful to course conditions.

River Run was playing fast and hard. The greens were very hard and consequently quick. The green surface was so hard that it was even difficult to repair ball marks with a digit tool. Consequently, many of the greens had a plethora of ball marks that had not been repaired thus causing the ball to occaisionally roll off line. The fairways were also running fast due to dry winter conditions which made the course shorter. Bunkers had consistent sand conditions although some could stand to use a little deeper sand. The tees were in pretty good conditions. Pace of play was pretty slow (as expected) with seasonably crowded conditions filled with winter rusty golfers.😊

River Run is fun to play & during the winter season they occaisionally offer affordable prices through GolfNow as opposed to most sky-high rates in and around the Bradenton/Sarasota area at this time of year.

I booked my T time throught GolfNow. I arrived ~30 before my scheduled T time. When I checked I was rushed to th 1st tee to join a twosome on the tee box. I didn't realize until the 6 hole that they were only playing 9 holes. I get to the 10th T box and there's nothing but foresomes as far as I can see. I was a single being sandwiched between foresomes? I elected to quit and not wait on every hole. If the starter had just left me in the foresome I was scheduled with all would have been good. I know they're over booking but taking my money and leaving a bad taste in the customers mouth will come back to bite you...eventually. I'll sped my money elsewhere.

A reasonably valued golf course. Not splashy, or in fantastic shape but holes are interesting.

This is a municipal course and you get what a municipal course is built to do , provides a course for all levels.

Surprisingly, it is difficult to get on most of the time, which shows people are interested in playing it.

Would play it again.

The tee times were confusing. A rain delay in the morning, so everything was running behind. I checked in ahead of my group and was directed to go on up (without really being told which group I followed.) It made for some uncomfortable interactions. I often play as a single with a group while traveling and have never had anyone make me as uncomfortable as one person did. He said he knew the starter and could fix it so I played with them (despite them having 4). Fortunately, the twosome I played with showed up and we went off. The whole situation could have been avoided with a little more direction on whose next.

The course is a county course, and layout wasn't too bad. A little bit rough shape, slow, and uncomfortable with the start. Don't think I would play alone there again. It was very inexpensive for Bradenton, though!

With the price of golf in the Sarasota area at peek prices, this course offers a good value for your money. My only complaint are the greens could use some attention. When they move the flags and plug the old holes, they definitely could feather them in better. Very bumpy and if your putt rolls over the old holes, you have zero chance of making your putt. Greens could use a shot of water. Fairways and bunker’s were in nice shape. Pace of play was better than a lot of higher priced courses in the area. Looking at the big picture, for a municipal course, you won’t be too disappointed if you give this place a try.

I always play this course every winter when I come down. It's my favorite because of the staff. They are always friendly and do whatever is necessary to make your round enjoyable. It's a "muny" so they get a ton of play but the starter/ranger keeps pace of play as best they can because they are very aware it can be a problem. It's not the fanciest course by any reckoning but the design and condition exceeds the fees considerably and that makes it a good value to play. Unlike most of the other inexpensive courses, they actually have turf to hit off of in the fairways and the bunkers are properly filled with fluffy, maintained sand. The greens are tough to read and a little bit slow but they are healthy. Shot placement is important just like any other course but hooks and slices here will put your shot where it cannot be retrieved.

I return every year to play this course and make it my favorite. Not necessarily because it's the best in the area, Greens are true and predictable, although slower than most. Fairways actually have turf to hit from. Sand bunkers are fluffy and well maintained and water hazards are well marked and avoidable. This course is a good value for the average golfer, maybe not as "fancy" as some others but a good municipal. I'll always play this course when I visit.

Play here often and they are cautious about pace so it makes it a really good value

Considering the amount of play the course gets, it’s in pretty good shape. Greens were good and pretty consistent.
