Faldo at Wildfire Golf Club at Desert Ridge Resort
About
Faldo Championship Course at the Wildfire Golf Club measures as long as 6,846 yards, depending on which tees you're shooting from, and lies on 174 acres and features some differences from the average desert-themed golf courses. Faldo offers abundant fairways, big bentgrass greens and tee boxes, as well as the golf course's neighboring mountains, century-old saguaro cacti and 106 sand bunkers - which remind golfers of Aussie sand-belt golf courses, which gives it a magnificent locale for golfers.
Wildfire Golf Club is much-feted: When the Faldo Championship Course opened, the Arizona Republic selected hole No. 2 among the valley's 18 best. The golf course received recognition among the 2006 Travel & Leisure Golf's "World's Best Golf Resorts" for family getaways and in the 2006 Conde Nast Traveler rundown of the "Top 100 Golf Resorts in North America." These are in addition to the Gold Tee Award from Meetings & Conventions Magazine.

Fun layout
They had aerated a few weeks ago so the greens were a little bumpy.
Fairways in excellent condition. Staff was hospitable.
Only recommendation is to bring some sand in for the traps. Most traps had no sand in them so you had to close the club face like a fried egg lie in order to get out. With the club face open you would skull it because of the bounce.
I would definitely play it again.
Round of two halves
The people I was playing with and myself were having a pretty good round. However, we were all slightly taken aback when the Marshall came and told us on the 11th that he was going to escort the group behind us to play through. For some reason we all started playing poorly after this? I must admit that having played golf all over the world this was a first...especially as we had not been holding them up and were keeping within the recommended pace
Great day out at Widfire Faldo course
My mate and I were in Scottsdale for 8 days golf and this was a course we booked a couple of days before we played. The course was in great condition, we had a third guy with us and we were able to play at out own pace as no-one ahead or behind.
The course is generous off the tee and although a lot of bunkers they are there to frame the holes and catch bad shots, not penalise good ones.
Highly recommend this course to others for an enjoyable days golf.
Very Nice
Arrived at 11am for 12:05?tee time...
Friendly efficient staff, great checking process, nice range and practice chipping area...
Only negative was that we encountered several singles that perhaps should’ve been paired better, as we let 2 through, but not others .. our foursome . finished in just under 4 hours.
Beautiful course
Very nice course. Lots of big mean sand bunkers. Sand was fairly hard but consistent including green side bunkers. Would have preferred soft sand at greenside. Greens were freshly aerated but had not been sanded so were actually quite fast and fair. No water at all, just sand. Fairways were perfect. If there was a negative it would be that all the holes were similar and there weren't any memorable holes or what you would remember as a signature hole. Played it under the golf now + program so price was not a factor. I would not consider it to be a $170 course but worth playing at summer rates
Wildfire - Faldo Course
Course was in very good shape. Didn't find out they had aerated the greens until we arrived at the course. 1/2 " aeration so not a big deal for putting but as always, visually unpleasing. Course discounted the rate 15% which was appreciated. Bunkers and more Bunkers - no water hazards.
Wildfire-Faldo
Loved the course and was able to play because of GolfNow rate as previously too expensive.
Sand
I get fairway bunkers that are firm. But green side bunkers were like hard pan. Sand was 1/2” deep at most.
Wildfire-Faldo
I have played course a few times- one of my favorites. Staff was very nice about getting us out early. Course and pace were excellent.
Lots of bunkers
Some think the Faldo course is harder than the Palmer because of all the bunkers (108 I’m told). Some thing the Faldo xourse is easier because you can spray the ball and find it. My fried liked tha Faldo much more, as he only lost one ball. He lost about 1 per hole on the Palmer. If you spray, not to the Faldo course.
Both are excellent and in great condition. Facility is well run and staff is friendly. Good place to play, especially if you can get some kind of a deal.
Awesome
Great layout, awesome condition and juniors play for 1/2 price
Wildfire
Great track in great condition. Slow play is a bummer to a perfect afternoon. 5 plus hours is not what the game is about
Too Busy
They were too busy getting ready for the tournament to provide good service. Bag drop folks were nit there when we arrived; no water bottle provided; no cart girl til 9th hole; practice range so-so. Grayhawk White Tee way better value. Legend Trail way better value.
Great experience
The course was in perfect condition. Even though the course was completely full, we felt as though we were the only people on the course. Great pace of play.
What happened to the sand
Had I been able to play the Faldo Course and avoid landing in one of the 180 bunkers, this would have been a 5 star all around rating. Unfortunately I found 6 or 7 opportunities to play out of a bunker. Picture yourself standing on a sidewalk and roaring your feet to “dig-in” your base for the sand shot. Got it in your mind? Good because this is exactly what it feels like inside the bunkers I hit into. Replace the missing sand and this is a can’t miss course.
