Mixed
I’ll simply say the #1 thing I can’t stand on a golf course is slow play! 5 hours to play this course was torture. This is the only reason for the 3 rating.
I enjoyed the challenge of the course and the back nine is pretty, and the price is terrific in today’s world.
So, going to give this another shot and hope this slow play was an aberration!
Slow Play
The reason for slow play is they tripled the tee times. Apparently there were several people with the same tee time as mine.
Great time
Course in great shape fairways playable greens are fast had some interesting pin placements. Will be back next week take another shot at this beauty.
Really nice course!
It was a cool start the morning we played, but the course was in really nice shape. Very green and good grass in the fairways which we didn't see at other courses, but Crown Park looks well taken care of. It was wet that morning but the greens had been rolled. Course is interesting with several holes near water- and the greens were very challenging to read. Kind of unpredictable. Always enjoy playing at Crown Park. Very glad to have had an early morning tee time. In the afternoon as we were leaving, the foursomes were lined up all waiting to tee off- with 4 foursomes waiting and 3 foursomes on the first hole. Our round in the early morning was just around 4 hours which was perfect. We never had anyone in front of us that we had to wait for which was great. We always enjoy this course, but were were surprised it's gone up a bit in price. No more hot deal times easily available! But then again, many of the courses have also increased. It's also a little tougher to get a tee time than it used to be.
A fine round
Played on a rainy day, but that was fine. Pace was good in the afternoon. Having played here before, we were pleased that there were no delays like we had previously experienced with pace of play. The lack of grass in the fairways was a surprise, though- and we hope that this will be taken care of. Glad we caught this as a hot deal price or we would've been a little disappointed in the shape of the course this spring. We've seen the course in much better condition in the past. It is typically one of our favorites to play each time we visit Myrtle Beach. Some interesting holes- and nice to have no houses close to the course. Altogether an enjoyable, if muddy, round.
Great round
Played golf with an employee and her husband. They were very gracious hosts and provided local knowledge of where you wanted to hit it. They were very friendly and I couldn’t have asked for better playing partners. Thanks again Richard and Sandy. I hope I have the pleasure of playing again with you in the future.
Very nice golf course
We enjoyed everything on this golf course.
Lot of water, bunkers etc….
Snail paced
First, I thought the layout had potential and should have played it from the blue cheese rather than the white. At the white tees three of the four par fives were well under 500 yards. I hit two sixes and a 7-iron for my second shots. Like a lot of courses there they don't overseed so there's not much to stop a ball in the rough and the greens are pretty much inconsistent. I would like to see them change grasses on the greens and overseed the rough. Fairways were thin but okay. Overall I thought the course was too firm and it could benefit from loosening the turf. Sand traps were in pretty good shape except that nobody seemed to know what a rake was for. Pace of play was abysmal. Our round was 5 hours long and I believe some people stopped playing early or it might have gone to six. As the front nine took 3 hours. Given the caliber of play that I saw on the course I think their tee times are too close together.
Michigan Traveler
Course is in generally good conditions.
There are a few areas needing attention.
Staff very friendly and helpful.
