Great lay out
Fairways lacking grass big time. Always enjoy the lay out, greens where ok. Would not rush back to play.
Sal
Nice layout good routing , but no grass. Greens are speedy with a lot of slope. Waste areas on almost every hole, can be very challenging. Overall well worth the ride.
Fantastic look and play
'Hidden gem', not an understatement. Undulating fairways and greens make this a true test from the Blue tees that I played. Still spring conditions so the grass isn't green yet, but it will be beautiful when it grows in. Will play this again real soon!
Much improved
The course was much better than the previous time I played there. The greens where as good as any I have played.
Nice layout
This was the first time I played this course in about a year. It wasn't busy so we were able to play at a good pace. The grass on the fairways is somewhat thin however they are playable. Most importantly the greens were overall in good shape and quick. The course has many elevation changes and the holes are well bunkered to say the least. Overall it was good value, will be back.
Better than
I have been told the course wasn't in good shape, but my foursome found it very playable. The greens were
fast and in good shape . The fairways were a little thin but were very playable. Will play this again now that I've seen it myself. Not a bad price. They are putting a lot of time into bringing back this course and are doing a fine job.
Great course design
I had read earlier reviews and was prepared for the worst. However I was pleasantly surprised that the greens were in very good condition. Enjoyed the variety of holes and course design made the 30 minute drive and $24 green fee well worth it.
This course need help
Greens are ok. Fairways have hardly any grass. They have been cutting the grass so short that there is no grass left.
bad fairways and greens
this course is a fine course if it was in good condition.sparse conditions on fairways and greens on back nine are iffy.this is pine barrons meet rolling oaks from world woods, lots of waste areas with rolling faiways and undulating greens.like many courses on golfnow cheap rates but not enough money put into the course upkeep.
more sand than saudi arabia
very nice course. the greens were very challenging, fast with movement, sometimes too subtle to read. Will look forward to playing here again.
Nice surprise
We enjoyed the course so much we played a second day. Great layout. Lots of sand but really a fun course with nice scenery.
The Dunes
Second time playing this course. First time was about two years ago and I didn't remember much except the course was very dry. This time I was pleasantly surprised that the conditions were OK to good. First the course layout is awesome championship caliber, play the back tees and this course will eat your lunch. Tees, fairways and chipping areas green with growing grass, greens generally good, a couple have some problem areas not overly affecting play or putting. Green speed medium. Shot a good humber 76, even par on the front nine, playing the Gold tees around 6300 yds. Massive waste areas, bunker sand soft and fluffy for easy outs. Recommend its a quality course with average conditions.
fun golf course
course was a little rough due I believe to the time of the year with a lot of grass was dormant. The course was a lot of fun to play. Unlike most Florida courses there was some elevation changes. The greens were in great shape and fast. Subtle breaks smooth and in great shape.
I would recommend this course, it was fun and challenging .
Big comeback!
I had seen how the previous owners let this great course deteriorate to. The turnaround here is remarkable!
appreciation
Lots of waist bunkers and sand traps, really interesting course, green well protected and in a good condition... would play there anytime.
Start of a comeback
Let me start by saying this is one of my favorite tracks ever. I've played there hundreds of times. It's nice to see it's starting to come back into shape. The fairways leave a lot to be desired. But the greens are coming in nicely and the track is an outstanding layout as always. Hopefully it will continue to progress back to the jewel that it once was. I urge you to give the course another look, try to see the course for what it can be not necessarily what it is.
Fun course
Sign says under new mgmt. Seemed very short staffed. Didn't have the usual water and ice on the porch, but the course is fun. All in all it was in great shape for this time of year. Greens ran a little slow, but we're in good shape. I always enjoy playing this course...similar to Pine Barrens at World Woods..just not as manicured and less expensive.
Experience
Beautiful course. Greens could use some care. Lay out of course is spectacular.
Can't wait to go back.
Give the Dunes a BIG Break
Having lived in Hernando County for the past four years I have played the Dunes Golf Club before and after it's closing. I would like to point out that the Club closed in the spring of 20013 and laid dormant until it re-opened later that fall. I have read the negative reviews regarding the spotty fairways and washed out bunkers However I would like to point out that this golf course layout and beauty can not be found elsewhere in the Nature Coast. The staff and grounds crew have been diligent in bringing the course back into form.
For the above average Hacker like myself the green fees, amenities, pace of play and hospitable employees at the Dunes can not be matched. Unless you believe that you're ready for the PGA tour and should be playing venues like DORAL or RIVERA may I suggest you all give the DUNES golf club a BIG BREAK!!
