Right direction
Have not played here in a while. Course was going down hill and was not worth the money they were asking. I played by chance on the way home from playing 18 at another course. When entering the pro shop was greeted right away but friendly guy. Told him I had just played 18 elsewhere but felt like playing 9 more, explained I wanted to see if the course was improving since last time I played there many months ago. He introduced himself as Eric the new golf pro, was very honest about what was going on around the course and he was very accommodating. I played the front 9 and was happy with how the course was improving. I finished and decided to play the back 9 also, to which again he was very accommodating and straight forward about the little issues with the back nine and what to expect.
Overall I thought the front 9 was looking much better, no real complaints. The back nine still is a work in progress, but Eric was up front about that. As far as the golf pro and treatment at the course, could not have been happier! I have already returned twice in the last week. What a huge difference just a good professional golf pro can make for a course.
Sugarmill Woods County Club
So the club was established in1979. It is a Ron Gael Archaeological Design.we love the layout of the golf holes. Half the tee boxes are rough. Most of the fairways are in fair condition. Half of the greens are in rough condition as well. We play the course because there are a handful of beautiful layouts. Pace of play after 11 am is great! Rates are about average. There are facilities, restrooms at various locations on the course. The club pro Eric is friendly as well as the staff working on the course and cart shack. Overall we overlook the course conditions and are generally pleased with the course. Hopefully they will get an infusion of funds to make it as pretty as it once was! Al Lanz
Great course lay out, nothing else
You can see that the course was once very very good great lay out, but the club pro isn’t taking care of the course at all. Dead greens, dirt and sand in the fairways. Fifty dollars is steep for such a disrepaired and mismanaged course
Still needs work
They are trying to improve the course, and it shows. Unfortunately the course needs lots of help. The drought does not help. Still a fun course to play.
D- At best, BRING A POLO
Booked a Hot Deal for $30 total for 2 of us to get out and play, brought a buddy who doesn’t golf much, and he didn’t bring a collared shirt. GolfNow details for this course don’t say that one is required, however, they would not let us play without one, and made us pay $31 for a shirt… more than we paid for golf. Other than that, imagine every putt has to go through some sort of dead spot / patch to get to the hole. ALSO our cart died on hole 14. It was a bad experience overall, and definitely would not come back here.
Good value
The course was a great value. The greens were adequate and fairways were open. The cart pathways were a bit rough in places but good overall.
SugarMill Woods Country Club
Course has had a bad winter, Played last fall and was great. Looks like sprinkler problems and lack of water due to the drought conditions. Staff indicated they were working on the issues.. Plan to try again in the fall. Layout was excellent was great and equipment matched. Just a little rough at this time.
Long ways to go, but course is improving
Greens are rough, recently plugged. Fairways are dry, some grass. Tees are same. Front nine in better shape than back. Staff is excellent.
Don’t bother.
Fairways are bad. Greens are worse. The whole place is one big sand pit. Sand sand everywhere. Found maybe a total of two greens with grass. At least they mowed the rough. Last time we played it was a foot tall. Won’t recommend. This used to be a nice course. Don’t know how members keep paying for this crap. Glad I don’t.
Bad
Lots of dirt everywhere. Fairways and greens pitifull. Tried to be true to the course but the course is so bad.
Disgusting greens were all sand and no grass anywhere. The fairways were disgusting no grass anywhere, the tee boxes were all weeds or sand . You cou
Horrible save your time and money and don’t play there. Believe me please don’t go there you will be disappointed
The course was in horrible condition. No grass in fairway tee boxes pathetic. Greens were totally unplayable
They are making improvements
This was an excellent course in the past but became in poor shape. The staff is working to improve the greens and it should be in much better shape in future.
Poor conditions, temporary greens, not much grass. 👎 needs help
