Sugarmill Woods Country Club
Layout is pretty amazing! New golf carts as well. Pro shop is very well stocked. Dining is moderately priced and the food is exceptional!
Poor condition
Course is in very poor condition. Not sure this course can recover without demolition and start over. Cart paths are worse than the California Freeways , Tee boxes are sand , greens are in very bad shape except 1 is salvageable on the back 9.
Why do I keep thinking it will get better 🤷🏻♂️
Thank God I booked through GolfNow because I was able to use points and a $10 discount and played for $20 bucks, but after playing I quickly realized I should have saved my money. It’s a unique course, the front is a 9 hole sand trap with little clumps of dead grass that if you listen real close you can hear it begging for water. The greens (I use that term lightly) are diseased and rolled flat to resemble grandma’s kitchen linoleum. The back nine resembles a golf course but again in desperate need of water with the greens being a little better. I had high hopes when it was sold to the new owners but once again those hopes were dashed.
Not worth playing
Absolutely horrible condition for a "country club". Not worth the price to play. Cart paths in horrible shape, greens are tore up. Tee boxes are dirt and sand
Sugar mill
First time there it was good value for money just remember bug spray if you do an afternoon round
Tee boxes in pretty rough shape. Greens ok. Fairways mostly brown dry and hard. You’re golfing on concrete pretty much. Nothing to brag about. Don’t understand why it cannot be in better shape. Very cheap owners I assume.
Sugarmill
Playing there once in a while. i do see changes. Greens especially shows improvement.
Pro Shop staff very friendly and helpful/
$70 is way too much for this course
New to the area , decided to try this course. First off the staff was very friendly. Really enjoyed the course layout, seemed to be new golf carts, no gps in carts no big deal ( won’t be new for long , cart path is in very very rough shape where there is a cart path shook some fillings loose). Course conditions were not good. T boxes were in bad shape , some had no grass just sand, fairways were not really fairways and greens were very inconsistent, some were thin and fast others were 70’s carpet and slow. $70 for a round seems a bit high for the conditions, maybe $30 or $40 would be a better value. Just my uneducated opinion.
Right direction
Have not played here in a while. Course was going down hill and was not worth the money they were asking. I played by chance on the way home from playing 18 at another course. When entering the pro shop was greeted right away but friendly guy. Told him I had just played 18 elsewhere but felt like playing 9 more, explained I wanted to see if the course was improving since last time I played there many months ago. He introduced himself as Eric the new golf pro, was very honest about what was going on around the course and he was very accommodating. I played the front 9 and was happy with how the course was improving. I finished and decided to play the back 9 also, to which again he was very accommodating and straight forward about the little issues with the back nine and what to expect.
Overall I thought the front 9 was looking much better, no real complaints. The back nine still is a work in progress, but Eric was up front about that. As far as the golf pro and treatment at the course, could not have been happier! I have already returned twice in the last week. What a huge difference just a good professional golf pro can make for a course.
Sugarmill Woods County Club
So the club was established in1979. It is a Ron Gael Archaeological Design.we love the layout of the golf holes. Half the tee boxes are rough. Most of the fairways are in fair condition. Half of the greens are in rough condition as well. We play the course because there are a handful of beautiful layouts. Pace of play after 11 am is great! Rates are about average. There are facilities, restrooms at various locations on the course. The club pro Eric is friendly as well as the staff working on the course and cart shack. Overall we overlook the course conditions and are generally pleased with the course. Hopefully they will get an infusion of funds to make it as pretty as it once was! Al Lanz
Great course lay out, nothing else
You can see that the course was once very very good great lay out, but the club pro isn’t taking care of the course at all. Dead greens, dirt and sand in the fairways. Fifty dollars is steep for such a disrepaired and mismanaged course
Still needs work
They are trying to improve the course, and it shows. Unfortunately the course needs lots of help. The drought does not help. Still a fun course to play.
