Nestled in the foothills of Yorba Linda, Black Gold Golf Club sits on the site of a former Shell Oil Field. Arthur Hills, the course's designer, thought the location, with its dramatic elevation changes and panoramic views overlooking Orange County and Palm Beach, was the perfect place for a round of golf. On a clear day, the views stretch as far as the Pacific Ocean and Catalina Island. The challenging layout is filled with narrow, rolling fairways and fast greens accented by thick patches of punishing rough. Due to the hilly terrain, a flat lie is hard to come by. The front nine requires accuracy and the back nine offers some particularly interesting risk-reward opportunities. Water hazards come into play throughout Black Gold Golf Club, most notably on the 18th. This par-5 finishing hole incorporates a cascading waterfall.

Fun but a little pricey

Great course with views of the valley and on some holes you can see all the way to the ocean. Well laid out with very good turf. Bunkers are crushed marble rather than sand which imakes them very white. Nice course, just a little more pricey than I expected for a weekly player.

Great course at reasonable fee

Recently, many golf courses raised golf fee due to increasing demand. But course condition and service did not follow the fee increase. I truly believe Black Gold is the course where I am happy to pay to play. Fantastic course layout with great course condition and freindly service by staffs always satisfy and meet my expectation!

Played here for my birthday. Couldn't have selected a better course to play. The course is challenging but very fair. Beautiful layout. Each hole is unique. Has a private feel once out on the course. Black Gold is Like Texas T

Great course and was in great shape. Seems like people are playing golf slower than ever nowadays instead of ready golf. Does anyone fix their divots any more? All in all I love this course and will play it any chance I get. The wait staff in the clubhouse was awesome too. Arthur was on top of it!

Stay in the fairways off the tee and you are rewarded. Miss the fairways and you will struggle.

Green reading skills are a must as greens are undulating, fast, and three putting is easy to do.

Terrific variety as No two holes look the same.

On the front nine there are back to back par threes.
