Black Gold Golf Club

Rode the Blues (6439/71.5/131) in 4H with GK Guru's Stickboy, Sparky14 and MrKich. Thanks to Vince, Steve & Matthew for an enjoyable round. The weather was overcast on the front, finally the sun came out on the back, hot and muggy.

Appreciate the course more with each visit. Tough layout, hilly, tight in spots, but a really solid course in good to very good condition. You cannot stray more than a little here or you will incur penalty shots in bunches.

The tees had good coverage, mostly level with few unfixed divots.

The Kikuyu fairways were mostly lush and generally nice to play from. A few small areas that were thin.

The Kikuyu rough was more consistently lush than the fairways. It's penal because it's Kikuyu. Tough to make solid contact on full shots and adds another difficulity factor to chipping.

The sand traps were very well maintained, both the quality and quantity of the sand was what you look for. Excellent to play from.

The greens putted nicely and held shots well. but were firm. Medium speed and undulating, our entire group had various challenges because they looked and seemed quicker than they actually were.

The customer service was excellent from all encountered. Cart gal out making the rounds. Had a Burger and Arnold Palmer after the round. Priced what you would expect for a golf course, both the quality and quantity were both good. Good driving range that was all grass today. The carts have advanced GPS that measures to the pin also allows you to measure specific landmarks. Recommended.

The course is everything u would want, tee box to greens.. the course is great, the one knock is the SLOW PLAY. For some, yes I know. YOU PAID AND YOU HAVE THE MONEY TO SOEND. But boy I wish they’re was a handicap rule in play so the novice players that are over 20 could be directed to the white or reds. They want to play for the blues or tips but please leave your ego out of it. You’ll get their someday. Golf is a game of rhythm and they killed it for me. 4 under in the front and had to skip 13-15 Cause I was literally waiting on the tee boxes for 10-15 mins before I can tee off.. frustrating, simply frustrating..

In the area for vacation from hot, humid, flat Houston. Felt right at home in the 95 deg F humid heat but loved this course and all the elevation change and beautiful contrasts in colors between green lush fairways and brown rough and mountains. Recently played Rio Secco and Revere golf courses in Las Vegas and Black Gold was equally beautiful. Would love to play it again. Just hope the temps are cooler next time.

A little slow today. Really had to give it a good whack to get it to the hole. Found myself needing to make par saves with second putts.

One of the beat values in the OC. Always one of the highest rated spots on golfnow yet a great bargain for the area. Never have had a problem with pace of play either. Bring your A game because if your even a little bit loose you're gonna have some real problems on the very tight back nine. Tees and greens in excellent shape, some sketchy spots and crabgrass on the fairways though. It could use a good overseed. Also a few fairways are roped off for carts which can really suck. Overall this is a tough track in good shape with a good pace of play on a weekend. Highly recommend.

I play this course once or twice a week. The conditions are always excellent. The greens are always in great shape. If you can keep the errors down you can have a great round.

I have fun every time I play at Black Gold. The pace of play and the condition of the course is what keeps me coming back time after time. The threesome I was paired with through GolfNow was a pleasure to play with. I normally play the white tees, but with the long hitters I played with today, it was all out from the blues. I will definitely come back again. You have to play this course whether you’re a visitor from out of town or looking for a challenging yet rewarding round of golf.

Always in great condition, always plays fast. Can’t ask for anything more. Definitely worth the premium price for these two reasons. Semi-target golf with a few short holes. Play here as often as I can.

The staff were very friendly and helpful and lunch in the clubhouse was great. The course was in very good shape but the green are difficult to read. It is fairly open off the tee box but several holes have fairways that run out and require less than driver. There were many great views and the scenery is very nice. It is a bit windy in the afternoons which adds some challenge.

Excellent layout and great condition, but those fine points are almost cancelled out by a terrible driving range hitting off of old mats and without anyone policing the area for rowdiness by teenagers. Never saw a ranger or anyone else once we tees off , so I can see why other reviews have complained about pace of play. I played on a Thursday and we finished in 4 hours 10 minutes fortunately. Can’t comment on friendliness of staff since there weren’t any unless you go into the pro shop.

Very good course, nice condition with great green and great staff, but today’s play was a little bit of slow, almost need to wait for every hole.

I’ve wanted to play this course for quite some time, and today was that day. The course is immaculate and the layout is friendly to any handicap golfer. The greens are very receptive and smooth increasing your chances for a low round of golf. I recorder my first ever eagle at this course on #15, par 4;perfect drive, pitching wedge from 102 yards. The pro shop staff and starter were very professional and courteous. The starter gave me some pointers about this course, and it paid off; finished with an 84 (should have scored an 83 or less - gotta work on my short three foot putts). I would rate this course higher than Oak Quarry. I will definitely tell my friends about this course and come back to play sometime soon. Take advantage of booking your tee time on GolfNow. Being from a flat part of the east coast, this was quite a change of pace. Dramatic changes in elevation and wind make for a challenge. Tee shots slightly off line can end up being lost. The course conditions were amazing and the greens putted immaculately. The starter may have been the friendliest I’ve ever encountered. Highly recommend if you are looking for a challenge.

I called for a tee time and the starter was kind and friendly. I believe he goes by the name of Sergio.

I got there and checked in, and on my way I was off to my round.
