About
Nestled in the foothills of Yorba Linda, Black Gold Golf Club sits on the site of a former Shell Oil Field. Arthur Hills, the course's designer, thought the location, with its dramatic elevation changes and panoramic views overlooking Orange County and Palm Beach, was the perfect place for a round of golf. On a clear day, the views stretch as far as the Pacific Ocean and Catalina Island. The challenging layout is filled with narrow, rolling fairways and fast greens accented by thick patches of punishing rough. Due to the hilly terrain, a flat lie is hard to come by. The front nine requires accuracy and the back nine offers some particularly interesting risk-reward opportunities. Water hazards come into play throughout Black Gold Golf Club, most notably on the 18th. This par-5 finishing hole incorporates a cascading waterfall.

Golfer Reviews
Great Layout, Great Greens, Fairways/Rough OK
This is a great track and layout. Some incredible holes and for what we paid at $30 compared to $100+ on the weekends....stick em up, we robbed em! Pro Shop gave us a $15 discount because it was the last day of high school match ups which had the course slowed down, so we just slid in on #10. Like I said, the layout is fantastic, greens are fantastic, fairways just ok, as well as the rough. When conditions aren't pristine at courses anymore, I just bump it and everything is just fine. If you've never played this track it's a must with a phenomenal finishing hole and many other great holes. Every hole sits all by itself for the most part. Go Play the Gold!!
The course is always fun and challenging. The staff was great. They went out of their way to be friendly and that the pace of play was good.
I hate to say it but the sand traps are vey well kept. Definitely makes a difference.
As always, much appreciated!
Ehhhhh
I was desperate to play. It’s close to my house. Course is uninspiring. Uninteresting layout. Weird tricked up greens, spotty fairways. Typical overpriced OC track.
Great condition
Greens are in great condition. Pace of play was a tad slow primarily due to the foursome in front of us, not anything course related. It’s a fun, challenging course and great change of pace from other courses in OC. Bunkers were above average,, but a few hard patches. Definitely will play here again.
What happened??
The greens were in very good shape, but for a high end course it needed a lot of work. The fairways were in very poor condition and the layout was very average except for a few holes. I played it about 3 years ago and at least it was in very good shape.
Unaware of Aerated Greens
Although I don’t live in the area, when I have an opportunity to play this course, I will. I decided to treat a friend here who had never played here before. Much to our dismay, we were unaware the greens were just aerated which didn’t allow us to experience Black Gold as we expected. The course itself is still beautiful and challenging but the first experience for my friend wasn’t what it should have been. This course is still one of my favorites and I’ll return. I just hope next time I travel the distance to play here and find the greens have been aerated.
Fun day
I enjoyed playing this course, unfortunately the greens had just been sanded and we couldn’t putt. I didn’t see that on the golf now app. Had fish tacos after and they were great, staff was nice.I will be back!
Couldnt have asked for a better day!
Best course in OC, I can understand why the normal cost is so high, just a beautiful course, but the only way I can afford it is to golf during the week for a reasonable cost.
Good course but not worth high green fee
Good course layout, nice condition, but not worth high green fee. Don't understand why the green fee is so expensive.
This is a great course to sharpen your game
Black Gold Golf Club is an exceptional GC but, it’s the pace of play here that is getting worse over the years. People tee off from the tips and only hit it 180yrds OB half the time. Don’t get me wrong, I love the course and I sometimes play bad but, I at least respect the people behind me and pick my ball up and move on.
Furthermore, I’ve got nothing bad to say about this course except the pace.
Lost item, Slow round
2 weeks ago pro shop confirmed they found my lost item. Then, in just a couple of weeks they managed to lose it. Also a 5.5hr round on a weekday. Food is poor and beer selection limited.
Good Track
Fun Arthur Hills design in Cali which is rare. Good views and nice use of the land.... beautiful homes line the course. Greens rolled nice and true in the dead of winter cant wait to visit come summer!
