Black Gold Golf Club
About
Nestled in the foothills of Yorba Linda, Black Gold Golf Club sits on the site of a former Shell Oil Field. Arthur Hills, the course's designer, thought the location, with its dramatic elevation changes and panoramic views overlooking Orange County and Palm Beach, was the perfect place for a round of golf. On a clear day, the views stretch as far as the Pacific Ocean and Catalina Island. The challenging layout is filled with narrow, rolling fairways and fast greens accented by thick patches of punishing rough. Due to the hilly terrain, a flat lie is hard to come by. The front nine requires accuracy and the back nine offers some particularly interesting risk-reward opportunities. Water hazards come into play throughout Black Gold Golf Club, most notably on the 18th. This par-5 finishing hole incorporates a cascading waterfall.

Not for the novice golfer
I am a novice golfer and this is the first time I played this course. Way to challenging for me to enjoy it.
golden time ?
The course was challenging it has lots of hills and valleys the greens was fast and rolled pretty much true. The views was great. if you go out of bounds you pretty much lost your ball. I believe this course is a great courses for average and above players if you are a beginner you're gonna have a rough day.
overall I had a great time and I think you will too
P'S the staff was excellent.
Great layout best course
This black gold GC are best challenge all layout are excellent front course 1 to 9 very good. Then back course 10 to 18 are very tough more narrow. Good for challenge is best top rate. It is thumb up !!
Fun track
Black Gold is a challenging course. For the cost, it's not a regular track for me, as there are many equally nice courses for less money. My only complaint is that there seems to be no consistent turf type on the fairways. Every fairway has a different patchwork of grass types.
great course
I have played here lots of times and happy to play more in the near futures.. Great course and condition all the times.
Great place to tee it up!
Very nice layout. Greens were in excellent condition. Fairways and rough need some work. Enjoyable day and a great views!
Just OK
Not worth the cost of a round. I played this course a couple of years ago and it was in a lot better condition. Fairways need some work but the greens were good and fast.
Slow play no course ranger
Not impressed with this one at all. It took over 5 hours to play this course there was no ranger on the course and we saw the beverage cart 1 time no drinking water in the coolers and the only beverage machine was not working.
Great course for GolfNow rates
Enjoyed playing the course very much. I always appreciate when a course is managed well and from the minute I drove up I could tell it was managed extremely well. I liked that they give you a beeper and send you to the range with balls to warm-up and as soon as the tee box is open at your tee time, they page you. No waiting around at the first hole to tee off.
The greens are fast and slippery and make up for some of the shorter length par 4's. Several of the par 4's I hit driver-wedge, thinking birdie or par, but the greens will get you!!!! I had multiple three putts.
My favorite hole was #10, 185 yard par three. Only because I got a hole-in-one. I am glad that my wife was there to see it go in the hole, and scream. I didn't see it go in because of the sun glare.
I will definetly play it again.
This course has nice view
Little disappointed when iI found out the greens were
punched. I would appreciated if the course put note on the booking page prior to purchasing t-time.
Short and Sweet
Course plays a little short even from the tips but, still fun and requires a few shots. Tried a few too many shots and came in at 81. I think fun is the best descriptor, not long enough to be challenging but calls for some course management and creativity around the greens.
A heads up that the greens had recently been aerated would have been nice.
one of better course in this area
everything is great except we hit on the irrigation week.
Unique holes
Excellent layout fairways were somewhat uneven with some bear lies.
Texas Tee Time
First time playing this course and misjudged traffic by almost two hours. Even with a tournament on the course the starter went to bat for me and got me out one hour earlier than booked.
Course is challenging with rolling fairways and tricky greens which take all your concentration to post a good score. If you spray the ball this course will make you pay. Staff is super friendly and the food is above average, would definitely play again.
Overrated and not worth the typical green fees.
Had heard a lot about this course and was extremely disappointed. The fairways, especially on the front nine were awful. Greens on the front were very inconsistent. The back nine is much better, more picturesque and in better condition. It was like playing 2 different courses.
The layout (which obviously nothing can be done about it) was weird. Back to back par 3s, delays all over the place equaled a 5+ hour round.
Staff was over the top friendly and courteous though.
Glad we got a discount on GolfNow!
Black Gold is a fun course
Although afternoon play was slow, it was still an enjoyable round of golf. Any time that discounted green fees are available in the morning, they should be taken advantage of. There are several really entertaining holes on this course, and well-placed shots can be rewarded - it pays to check the gps recommendations on the carts. Fairways and greens were in fine shape. Greens were somewhat hard, but would hold well-hit shots, and rolled fairly true. I look forward to my next round at Black Gold!
I love this course
One of my favorites courses. Very challenging. Great views on most holes.
very challenging
I golfed here a number of times in the past but had not played here for 6-7 years. Not because of the golf course just personal. Overall the cousre is very nice and challenging and I enjoyed playing even though a shot a high score. GolfNow was reason I went there with some friens and we all had a little difficulty but we are 15+ handicaps.
A little pricey
This is a nice course, it has it's challenging moments such as narrow fairways and pretty fast greens. Most holes offer no forgiveness, not a course for beginners. I would play more often if the rates would drop $15-20.
Beautiful course
Great layout and great condition. Pace of play could be better.
