Shadow Lakes Club

About
Shadow Lakes Golf Club sprawls across rolling hills with Mount Diablo looming in the background. Dramatic elevation changes characterize the course, providing both challenges and scenic views of the East Bay Area. The undulations of the terrain range from subtle to dramatic and helped to determine the strategic placement of the sharply sculpted bunkers, of which there are many. The design of the golf course blends seamlessly with the existing landscape with swaths of native grasses outlining each hole and natural rocky outcroppings coming into play throughout. The course incorporates links-style characteristics as well as a variety of different challenges including water hazards and deep rough. One particularly memorable water hole is the par-4 16th. This is Shadow Lakes Golf Club's signature hole that features an island green that slopes in front, back into the water.

Overall 6.9/10
Pace of play was slower than any course I have ever been to. 16 holes took 5 hours and 30 minutes. The course is stunning with great views and is an easy course for the average bogey golfer, but you also better be good at putting. If you come, bring a full squad, bring spectators, bring drinks/food because you’re going to be there for a long time.
Quality Golf In Brentwood
I’m excited to play here each time. Played the “new” 18 4x now and each time has been excellent. Greens are solid as is the test around the greens. A good variety of holes.
This course offers amazing views of Mt Diablo, and the section surrounding holes 11-12-16 is noteworthy.
3 hours for front 9
Absolutely BRUTAL pace of play. Staff members in clubhouse were not friendly when we first showed up. Took us three hours to get through the front 9. Constantly waiting. Not sure if the staff over booked or what happened but I had to leave after the front nine because the pace of play was so awful. Extremely disappointing, and waste of money.
Tee times suck
Every single time I play here it gets backed up. Not like on the back 9 or a backup here and there, like a 20 min wait every single hole starting on hole 5. I’ll never play here again if I can help it. Pace of play is crap
Shadow Lakes Full 18 Holes
Played for the first time since 9 holes were reopened to make a full 18 holes. Overall, it was an enjoyable round. The new holes’ fairways were cut really short which made it a bit more difficult hitting off the fairways. Greens were really fast, made faster by difficult hole positions…great for tournaments, but not for daily play. Been a long time since I played the course, so it was great to see them bring back this course to its previous, fun n challenging 18-hole gc!
Course needs some TLC but greens were great
They recently re-opened the full 18 and you can certainly notice the recovery conditions around the course, however the greens were in great shape everywhere and rolled consistently well. Great potential once they get the course back to lush conditions. Fun layout, not terribly difficult but the elevation changes definitely make things tricky.
Fun day
Great time at Shadow Lakes. Had played years ago before its most recent comeback to a full 18 holes. Fun course. Challenging greens with tough pin placements on a few holes. Pro shop could use some more merchandise. Pace was great. Enjoy.
Slow AF
Second time in a row playing shadow Lakes as a 5round ,Unacceptable. The two out of town gentleman that I played with will never return because of the slow pace of play. The conditions of the course are good the layout is also good, but hard to recommend it at 5 hours a round
Terrible pace
Very slow, weekday 4hrs 45 minutes,
Very good layout and interesting, unfortunately the pace too slow , let players feel frustrated
Really Slow Play, 5 Hour Round
Course I layout is great, however we were close to a 5 hour round on a Wednesday afternoon. No Marshall or beverage cart on the course.
Welcome Back
Was looking forward to playing the 9 holes that were closed and was not disappointed. Grass is growing, and what’s dormant now will be green come next rains after winter.
Good greens, sand, fairways and tee boxes.
Will only get better from what I can see and then we’ll see how it’s maintained thereafter.
Can play soft or fast and firm going up and down the Brentwood hills.
