Shadow Lakes Club
About
Shadow Lakes Golf Club sprawls across rolling hills with Mount Diablo looming in the background. Dramatic elevation changes characterize the course, providing both challenges and scenic views of the East Bay Area. The undulations of the terrain range from subtle to dramatic and helped to determine the strategic placement of the sharply sculpted bunkers, of which there are many. The design of the golf course blends seamlessly with the existing landscape with swaths of native grasses outlining each hole and natural rocky outcroppings coming into play throughout. The course incorporates links-style characteristics as well as a variety of different challenges including water hazards and deep rough. One particularly memorable water hole is the par-4 16th. This is Shadow Lakes Golf Club's signature hole that features an island green that slopes in front, back into the water.

this is a no brainer, come here for your next round
great value due to golfnow.com...this should be your next round of golf...
Its OK to be nice
I played with some friends who drove up from Sac. The staff was standoffish and somewhat rude. But we were there to golf so whatever. The course was nice with the exception of locals who act like they are on the PGA Tour and conduct themselves like they own the place. Several times as we waited for the group ahead of us, the group behind us hit up on us. Again we were there to golf. We'll come back however I wish people could be a little nicer. I was a bit embarrassed by the actions of those in my community.
We all loved it!!
We set up a time in the morning to play Deer Ridge which was spectacular. After we finished they offered a great special to play Shadow Lakes. There was 8 of us and we all loved it. The course is in great condition and the greens are excellent. The views and setting made for a perfect day. The staff made us all feel at home so we decided to make this a regular thing...
Used to be great. What happened
I know all the courses are going through fall transition but this place looked like the owner threw in the towel
Greens had a disease and used to be flawless. Fairways were beat up and half dead. Just seemed completely run down in comparison to past rounds.
Hopefully they get it together cu the course has great views and layout
Good value
First time I played this track. Course was in good shape especially considering drought conditions here. Pace of play was 4:15 which I consider great for a Friday. Friendly staff. I arrived early and was able to get off an hour before my scheduled tee time. Booked through golf now for $17.00. Great value.
Great Course!
Greens in great condition. Tough but fair course. Food and beverage good.
Great course worth the drive
Weather and conditions are great. Awesome value for a moderately challenging course.
Good course, lousy signage!
Enjoyed the layout of the course. There are some great golf holes at Shadow Lakes that require some thought from tee to green. Not just a grip it and rip it course. That being said, it was nearly impossible to find yardage markers or signage directing you from greens to tees. (which isn't straight forward) Greens were in good shape, but the traps were horrible. The other negative was pace of play. I went out as a single on Labor Day. Expected a slow round, but was sent out solo between foursomes. Eventually bounced ahead a few groups and joined a twosome. From an elevated tee, we could see almost a 2 hole gap ahead of the 2 groups in front of us. No marshal to prod them along. This gap may have been caused by the half hour wait at the turn. Slow sandwiches? Again, I didn't expect a fast round, but I think with a little better tee sheet management and some prodding, we easily could have finished 30 min. earlier. That being said, I would play again...with an early tee time and a range finder!
Great Course, Excellent Experience, Best Value in Area
The course has a great layout offering many risk/reward shots. Greens were in excellent shape and our group had a really good time, especially for $34. The food in restaurant has become way better, street taco's were some of the best I have ever had.
Golf Now reservations not working here
Our tee time through Golf Now was not honored, so we got squeezed in after the local mens club tournament went off ahead of us. We were about 30 minutes late teeing off.
The course conditions are decent in most places and poor in others. Lots of bare turf with mud around cart paths/tee boxes. Some fairways were bad. Holes 1-3 were just plugged and all the plugs left in the fairway.
Most if not all bunkers were pitiful. packed sand from over watering and looked like they hadn't been dragged in a while.
The greens were in good shape as the sun got hotter. Our first tee (#10, went off back), the person setting the cup drove his cart right on the green and left big tire tracks in everyone's line...two sets of tracks around the hole.
It will be a while before I think about going here again.
If you like elevation changes in the holes, this is the course for you.
This is a good course to challenge your skills with many elevation changes and other challenges but you can score well if you keep the ball in play.
Course
Fun course to play, in good condition with nice people in both the pro shop & bar
Shadow On a hot day
It was a warm day, but the conditions of the course were great. Like a normal time of the year here in Brentwood, the wind comes up and it makes playing the course challenging. It is a beautiful place to play.
Hot Day
The pace of play was good and the course was in fair shape. There was a drink cart available for the first 9 holes but did not see it again after the turn around 2 pm. The most disappointing thing was the water jugs on the course were empty and it was 101 deg afternoon.
Quick Sun Morning Round
7am start, finished at 11am, and paid $34 bucks for a Sunday round. Can't complain greens were pretty quick and a fun day
Shadow Lakes a good challenge
Nice setup quality looks at the east bay hills reasonable rates in the afternoon can get windy , wasn't when I played .liked the elevation changes and elevated tees.Golf course is in great shape and greens are true .will definitely find my way back.
4th of July 2014 - Late Afternoon Round
Our threesome went out at 4:00 p.m. on the fourth of July. The Golfnow price was $20 each! That's with 18 holes with cart! Now, the temp was 100 with some hot dry wind, but overall good weather conditions. We were the last group out that day. We took our time and finished before 7:45.
The course was in good condition, although some greens have enough goose droppings on them to make the green nearly unplayable! Fairways were hard and traps are treacherous! I play here a lot, so no surprises for me.
The twilight rate makes this a great bargain. 12 years ago, Troon Golf was charging $85 to play Shadow!
Ragged
Pretty decent layout with good variety of holes. Not well maintained. Bunkers are terrible. Greens are okay but slow.
this course worth to recommend to other player who didn't plan here before
course condition is good and course design is very unique; it is very challenge course.
over watered
the fairways and bunkers were muddy.California is in a drought.every one is conserving water why is shadow lakes wasting water.
