Shadow Lakes Club
About
Shadow Lakes Golf Club sprawls across rolling hills with Mount Diablo looming in the background. Dramatic elevation changes characterize the course, providing both challenges and scenic views of the East Bay Area. The undulations of the terrain range from subtle to dramatic and helped to determine the strategic placement of the sharply sculpted bunkers, of which there are many. The design of the golf course blends seamlessly with the existing landscape with swaths of native grasses outlining each hole and natural rocky outcroppings coming into play throughout. The course incorporates links-style characteristics as well as a variety of different challenges including water hazards and deep rough. One particularly memorable water hole is the par-4 16th. This is Shadow Lakes Golf Club's signature hole that features an island green that slopes in front, back into the water.

Review Of Shadow Lakes
Condition has gone down hill over the years. I have played this course since it opened. Back then great conditions, not true anymore. Not sure if it is funding, staffing or training.
Poorly maintaned dry sod around traps
Several bare lies
Horrible Bunkers
Good course for the price on a Sunday
My only complaint is the the geese and birds on a few holes like 4 they are everywhere and there waste is everywhere on the greens to.
Nice!…..but
The front nine is in great shape, but you are in for a surprise come the back. most of the tee boxes are shot! lots of goose sh@# and very dry conditions on fairways, with bunkers that are crusty and full of gravel and dirt. Pace of play really slowed on the back, with NO marshall ever in sight. I may come back, but the back nine will need a lot of attention to make it worth the drive.
Great customer service
The staff at this course are amazing. They remember you and greet you by name and are very helpful. The course has a good variety of challenges and a good pace of play
slow player
It was so slow I left the course after nine holes. We had 2 somes and 3 somes front of us
It was ridiculous that they not let us passing through. No marshall was out there to control the pace of game. We could finished within 4 hours but we were waiting for every shot. I really disappointed.
Target Golf
Golf Now did it again with a great course! Our threesome consisted of two very new beginners. That's why we had a five hour round. It was not because of conditions or slow groups in front of us!
The fairways were in great shape along with the greens. There were obstacle's for everyone! Long hitters and beginners alike. The staff was great. The pro-shop set us up with a round at their sister course Deer Ridge right around the corner for the next day. That course as well was in excellent shape and too, was just as challenging. We had a foursome for that round. Same players plus one. I had the beginners play best ball so that it did not slow down play. I was worried that they would slow us down and cause a back up. That round we could have completed in 3 hours. But on the last hole they wanted to at least try and hit a decent tee shot. We took an extra half hour. That half hour was ugly and entertaining at the same time. Besides we had a three hole lead on the group behind us and know one in front of us. So what the heck let them try to drive one as far as myself and my partner. But it never happened! They tried. All in all that was an excellent course with tricky greens on the front nine. We started on the back nine and flew right through it and a Saturday morning! Pack some extra balls if you are prone to errant shots off the tee. The rough is rough and long. Fairways were in great shape. The greens on the front nine had more than a few ball marks that were not repaired and it was tough to get the ball to check up. They tended to skip across the green if you had a little too much on it. Just a little on the dry side from the wind. Oh. Did I mention the wind? It kicks up a bit! I definitely would play Shadow Lakes and Deer Ridge again when I'm up there the next time I visit!
Great layout, good condition course except the sandtraps, Staff are friendly (mike and Johnnie)
We drove from Milpitas to play this course , due to driving distance we only play this course and Deerreidge 2 to 4 rounds a year. It's very reasonable priced booking with Golfnow and the course layout is really wonderful and challenging. AS seniors we usually play only on weekdays , so the round goes pretty fast and love how friendly the Staff are .
Go play this course and you'll truly enjoy it.
only one quibble
while our group of three found the course interesting, challenging, and generally in good condition-the condition of the bunkers left much to improve. They were extremely hard, closer in consistency to river bottom.
The course is in great shape...!
The pin placements were excellent...very challenging!
great value
big bang for the buck. different terrains and variety of holes.very true but fast greens.
ALMOST GREAT
Greens were cut but not rolled..lumpy in places..with the degree of difficulty already ..made putts more difficult than they should have been.
Other than that I really enjoyed the course and if the greens were taken care of a little better ..course could be great.
Poor everything
When I first arrived to check in the person at the pro shop probably lost money on the Super Bowl the way he greeted guest of his establishment was about as good as a bear in hibernation. No hello how are you it seemed like I was an inconvience for him to take my money and check in. Then I tried to purchase some range balls to warm up and he told me the range was out due to the rain the day before. Cart breaking down on the course.
good overall value
fast play great weather nice overall course i am looking foreword to returning
Nice winter conditions
This course is challenging and enjoyable! In spite of winter conditions the course overall was in great shape. Definitely will return.
Good target practice and yardage control practice
From back tees. Tough to shoot your potential if you have not played it. Lots of elevation changes, long but reachable uphill par 5's and blind approach undulated greens. You need to be commited when choosing your club. If you want to play a target practice course and test your yardage control, this is good. Nice course, but was a little hard and dry, wind burnt in rough areas. Nice greens.
The course challenge your abilty.
A challenging course. You can play course more times without
being bored. It has water, hazards, dog leg and up & down hills.
Nice Greens
Played there on black Friday and everyone and their brother was there. Course was backed up pretty bad. Had a blowout on one cart and the other one would not go up the hills after 6 holes. At times there were 3 foursomes backed up at a time. Started a little after 11 am and finished just at 4:35 PM Not really a bad course and some holes more challenging than others. I guess not bad for a weekend where everyone has the day off. Will try again another day. The Staff was very nice even down to the Cart people.
A group of us are trying to play 52 courses in 52 weeks, so far this is number 21
This course is narrow!
Decent course/layout. Some areas on fairway need TLC. Front 9 greens were SLOW! picked up later. You have to double think which club to use and play the course... Overall, not bad, I'd play it again.
