About
Editor's Note: Course closed for business in 09/2019.
Nestled at the base of Mount Diablo, Deer Ridge Golf Club wanders through rolling, oak-dappled hills. The course has several challenging holes but the hazards are balanced by more player-friendly elements like wide, forgiving fairways and generous greens. There is also plenty of room off the tees and at just over 6,300 yards it is a manageable length as well. Though it is gentle enough for beginners, the thoughtful routing and hilly terrain keep it interesting for low handicappers. Deer Ridge Golf Club's front nine is more open and slightly less difficult, but the back nine gets a little trickier with more trees and more dramatic elevation changes coming into play. The terrain gives each hole a unique character and different challenges. The wind can also be a major factor. Good course management will be well rewarded.

Buyer Beware !!!!
Booked a nice priced "hot deal" on Golf Now, but very disappointed to arrive and find 18 holes of sanded greens ! ( No aerification notice provided !)
The greens were unplayable.
Shame ! Shame ! Shame !
Mixed bag
I very much like the course layout
Greens are fast and there are no straight putts ever.
Course conditions are not at all up to par and pace of play maddeningly slow. Fivesomes are far too common as well slowing play even more.
A shame really.
Great Course and Staff
Always a pleasure to book a tee time and play the course. Every staff member is friendly and accommodating.
The course itself is in great shape. Many wide, forgiving fairways with a few challenging drives. An occasional hazard to keep you on your toes. Greens roll smoothly.
One of my favorite courses.
Nice golf course
greens were very nice and true.
And terrific staff
Overall, I'd recommend the course
Facility seems to be struggling
With Shadow Lakes closed, there is no warm up range or nets near Deer Ridge. Surprised they haven't at least put up a few nets. Several fairways are in very bad shape (e.g., #10). However, greens were very nice and true. And terrific staff. I hope this club can improve because it's a great layout with good potential.
Course Play
The course needs to invest in a marshall to keep the play moving. Too much time spent looking for lost golf balls.
Enjoyed playing Deer Ridge
Greens in above average shape and rolled true. Fairways mostly nice (a few had patchy areas, and #10 essentially had no grass...really, at all). Sand traps were raked but had minimal sand but, comparable with all other courses in the area. Overall, I'd recommend the course, and I enjoyed my round.
Great price
Course excellent. Weather perfect. Nice to play where they take care of the clientele.
Deer Ridge Course is in Great Shape
I was surprised with the greenness of the course. It's in great shape, I thought. It was a 5-hour round we had yesterday and that's long.
Great course for the money, I play here all the time
I live near tons of great golf courses and I've played top notch courses like pebble beach, and bad bad courses like Old River in Tracy. Deer Ridge is my regular course because I golf twice a week most weeks and I can play this course with a loyatly card for $28 weekday mornings and usually be first out.
The course itself is great, it's not intimidating for the most part, but it's challenging and the course is kept in great condition. Greens are not the fastest, but they're fast and generally they roll true.
Only knock on this place is the "range" where you can hit balls up to 125 yards only. So there's no real warming up on the range before a round, but the first hole is probably the easiest on the course so get your warm up there :)
I do recommend this place to all my friends as a place to go and have a fun round without breaking the bank.
Not maintained well
Played hot afternoon twilight. Course was empty - finally caught up with a group on 18th. Some fairways 10th/11th - nothing but weeds.
Course condition not up to par
Our first time playing Deer Ridge and were not impressed as fairways were sparse in several areas. There also was no Marshall so pace of play was slow. A twosome was holding up several foursomes. I enjoyed the layout especially the back nine. We played on a Sunday and got to the couse at 8Am in hopes of having breakfast prior to our 9:20 tee time. To our
surprise, we were advised the restaurant/snack area was not open until 9! on a weekend. We had drove 80 miles and passed many restaurants so as to have breakfast at the coarse. In my 50 years of playing golf I have never seen a course that
opened it's eating facilities at 9Am on weekends. Not a good business model. Maintenence also on the building appeared way down as the rear door to the pro shop looked like it hadn't been painted in years. The lack of a full driving range is also
a let down. Their sister course, Shadow Lakes, has been closed, but in my opinion Deer Ridge should have been closed as Shadow is a better playing experience as I have played it several times.
This track has lots of flavor
Excellent track for the price , the best deal in Brentwood .
Greens were rolling quick and smooth;
bunkers needed more sand.
The course's mini range (only 130 yards) is inadequate. The only full length driving range now is at the Brentwood Golf Club; Shadow Lakes across the street has been closed all year.
Good day of golf
Deer ridge is a fair course tough enough for good golfers and playable for those beginning. The course is in good shape and the greens at good.
