Blackstone Golf Club
About
Blackstone Golf Club is one of the hidden gems of Chicagoland golf courses. It has one of the most natural landscapes of any course in the area thanks to the incorporation of more than 26 acres of environmentally protected wetlands. Half of the course is routed through dense forests of oak and hickory trees while the other half stretches across lush, open meadows. The wetlands come into play on 13 holes. Bob Lohmann, the golf course’s designer, crafted dramatic bunkers with irregular edges and strategically placed more than 50 of them along the greensides and fairways. It’s not a golf course where you can “grip it and rip it,” instead it will force you to think carefully before each hole. The layout can be a challenging test but four sets of tees and wide, player-friendly fairways make Blackstone G.C. more accessible for a wide range of skill levels.

Gem in the Country
I loved this course! Excellent course layout with plenty of water, marsh, sand and trees. Each hole presents the player with challenging decisions and breathtaking views. Greens, tees and fairways in magnificent condition. I played the gold tees, which was challenging for playing the course for the first time. I will play this course again.
HOT DAY
One of those days..
92 degrees and steamy, there was no beverage cart but there was cold water every 3 or 4 holes.
This course overall is in very good shape.
Greens seemed to have been cut a little to short and were a little chewed up in spots due to disrespectful foot dragging, non ball mark fixing players..
This is a fun layout and an enjoyable round of golf.
A hidden gem...
Great track for the value, especially with GN hot deals !!!
Outward nine provides more scoring opportunities than the inward holes so make sure to take advantage. I think 12-15 are the toughest stretch of holes.
First time playing (we played Black/Gold), it looks very tight. But after a couple rounds, you get the nuances of the course and get a feel of bail/lay up spots. Greens are fast and true. We played one time and the greens were running probably around 13 stimp, plus majority of the pins were cut almost 4-5 paces from the edges. Brutal. Course Supt must have had a bad sleep the night before.
IMO, you have to drive well to score well on this course. While distance is not an issue for my group, forced carries on a number of holes can be a nightmare for shorter hitters.
Pace of play of play is always great. Worth the drive, specially if you live within the NW burbs.
The only suggestion I will offer is for the course to improve their scorecard, adding some hole layout/diagrams will help. I don;t rely on GPS that much so having a simple yardage only version is enough. It keeps the cost down.
Fun Golf Course
Very fun course to play. Fairly wide open off the tee, but challenging. Greens are big, quick and undulating, with large collection areas. If you are missing greens on your approach shots, you better bring your short game. The staff, especially the head pro are very friendly and accommodating. My only criticism is that this course needs to have a yardage book. Overall, a great experience!
Worth the Drive!
I have played Blackstone several times and I enjoy it every time I go back. I live in Algonquin, and it is still a bit of a drive out to Marengo, but it is worth the drive. There are several sets of tees, so you can play what is most comfortable to you. Length is not the issue, the speed of the greens and these things called trees that you may not encounter very often in Chicago.
The whole staff are welcoming and friendly and they will go out of their way to make you feel comfortable. Excellent practice facility as well as GPS on the carts. The pace of play most times I have played has been very good. My only advice to them would be to try and pair groups up more often. I was a single and asked to be paired up, which they did with a great twosome. During the 3:30 round we had two twosomes in front of us and one behind.
Good target golf
Friendly staff
Great course
I want to play it again
Great Place, Slow Pace
Got a great rate to play this course for the first time! I was not disappointed, except for the pace of play and the lack of a beverage cart. The course is is great shape and is worth the trip...
Private course facility for the public
I have played many private courses in my lifetime and this course can hold its own with many of them. This may be out on the middle of nowhere but it is well worth the drive. Well manicured with a great layout. Greens are big, rolling, undulating and fast. Play a little more break than you think as there are not many straight putts.
One of my favorites
I can't recommend this course enough. Absolutely love it. One of my favorites in the whole Chicago area. Always in excellent condition. Some of the fastest greens around that always play firm, fast and true. Fairways and tees in great shape. Bunkers always raked and full of quality sand with no stones or dirt. Interesting layout with some holes playing through fescue and some playing through the woods. I play here as often as I can.
Fabulous and fun course
Outstanding course. Very challenging greens. Its on the top of my list of courses to play....if only it was closer to civilization.
As always-great greens
Course in excellent shape. Course in excellent shape

Love thus place
Have played here a lot in the past 3 years have never had a bad round. Great greens and several tough holes especially 14
Nice course
Fast greens with a challenging layout. Staff makes your feel at home.
Could be a 5 star experience
I have played this course around 10 times and travel a over half hour to get there. Greens fees are reasonable and the course staff very welcoming. The course has a great layout and in essence is a shotmakers course with a decent selection of tee options depending on the wind and playing ability. The greens have subtle slopes and typically are as fast as any in the area. Condition of the course was excellent for the tees, bunkers & fairways. Now here is the conundrum, the greens.
Because the course is good, the greens see a lot of play and as a result show significant signs of wear and tear. Pitch marks and spike marks are a problem. You arrive at the first tee to a large sign of "how to repair a pitchmark" so the staff are aware of the problem. I think they could do more to improve the situation by hiring some summer interns to be out on the course for some "in-progress" basic maintenance such as repairing the pitchmarks and a quick roll of the area around the flags. Maybe even change the pin positions half way through the day.
I recommend this course, it's good but because I like it, I want to see it get the 5 stars it deserves.
Challenging course. Worth the trip.
Challenging course. In great shape. Worth the drive. Lots of forced carry and fast greens.
Black stone Tips
Excellent Greens that are very fast, but putt true. Overall very nice course with a good mix of difficult, and risk reward holes.
Excellent course
Course is in perfect condition with lots of challenges
Tournament conditions
Greens #1 in public golf in the area. Ball stays online, lot of Slope.
