Blackstone Golf Club
About
Blackstone Golf Club is one of the hidden gems of Chicagoland golf courses. It has one of the most natural landscapes of any course in the area thanks to the incorporation of more than 26 acres of environmentally protected wetlands. Half of the course is routed through dense forests of oak and hickory trees while the other half stretches across lush, open meadows. The wetlands come into play on 13 holes. Bob Lohmann, the golf course’s designer, crafted dramatic bunkers with irregular edges and strategically placed more than 50 of them along the greensides and fairways. It’s not a golf course where you can “grip it and rip it,” instead it will force you to think carefully before each hole. The layout can be a challenging test but four sets of tees and wide, player-friendly fairways make Blackstone G.C. more accessible for a wide range of skill levels.

tough greens
The course is fantastic. Green are beyond tough, hard to hold greens and pin placements are in crazy spots.
I was put off by starter who is on the first tee with ranger they where standing right behind us talking and SMOKING while we were teeing off. Those two should be kept off the course.
We will be back it is worth the trip!
always a pleasure playing here
excellent course, excellent staff. Always friendly and gracious. Course is fun but challenging and the greens are fast and subtle.
Diabolical Greens
Great course, great staff and diabolical greens where pin placement can make a huge difference on already very fast undulating greens. Spend more time on practice putting green than at range when warming up.
Excellent staff
Very nice course with an exceptional staff. Greens were very firm and slick - you have to be able to play a bump and run shot or a very high lob with plenty of spin yo hold the green. Definitely on my replay list.
1st Time at Blackstone
Course was great. Only issue, we were a 2some and pulled up to starter for our time. As we listened to his 7-10min. speech about the course, we were ready to tee off and a 3 some pulled up. Starter tells us he is going to let them play 1st. Says they are "high calibre" players, (so I guess we weren't?) then as they tee off, a 4th joins them. Once they pulled away starter tells us it was the staff, grounds keeper, etc. Then as a 2 some we proceeded to wait on each shot, eventually we asked to play through. As you would think employees would play around paying public? We play weekly 2 or 4some, have no plans to return.
Go Play Blackstone!
Outstanding course, plenty of challenge to each hole with fast greens. Pace of play was perfect for a weekend.
a must play
its a place that other courses could learn from, wonderful facility and it you like a challenge, this is the place to play,
TOUGH GREENS
This is a rolling farm style course. Greens were very fast (stimp 12?), and there is rarely a straight putt. From the Gold tees the yardage is barely over 6,000 but the severity of the greens and the severity of the penalty when you miss a green put the slope rating at 134.
Course was in great condition. Pace of play was exactly 4 hours. (teed off at 6:45 a.m.). Some scenice holes, some on the mundane side (those along the road).
Would play it again.
Review
The bar cart does not exist while playing at this course.
The pace of play is slow- we watched a 4-some in front of us holding up the entire day (one woman was just driving the cart, the other chose to 'walk' to her ball every time). Needs to be better regulated so it doesn't slow the whole day down. That was the 3rd time it's happened in a row for me.
Great track...worth the drive
Very nice layout and fun to play. Greens were a bit marked up however still extremely fast. Had a few putts roll off line due to previous pitch marks not being fully properly repaired.
Overall one of the best courses I have played in northern Illonois.
You Gotta Play this one
Blackstone is an outstanding track, but not for a rookie. Fast greens, forced carries, crested fairways, etc. If you have some game, you will be challenge. You just have to know where to miss. All Blackstone needs are a few more water hazards...
I brought a guest from Ohio, and he said that Blackstone is better than any public course that he as ever played. Blackstone is in my top 5 of favorite Illinois courses.
Take advantage of the 4-some rate special.
Blackstone exterience
Felt like I was playing in northern Wisconsin. Tree lined, with wetlands in play. Course was magnificent and fastest green I have experienced, but very true. I will come back
Beautiful Course
First time playing here, and I really enjoyed it. Course is in an excellent shape, greens are fast, and the layout of the course is interesting.
The word is out!
I use to tell everyone about this course and that it is the best track in Northern IL. Then I decided to keep my mouth shut because I didn't want to see it get overplayed, or see the pace of play diminish.
The reality is that the word is out about Blackstone. It is my favorite course that gives access to the public. The greens are incredible and it presents a nice challenge to single digit handicappers.
Nice Course
The course was somewhat challenging with well maintained greens and fairways. Greens are very fast and hard to read; many greens break the opposite way you think. Most of the course consists of longer grass with not too many trees. I would play this course again.
Course was fair
Course was fast. Tees gave a good view of how the hole should play. The rough was a factor, but it was not unfair.
always a pleasure
my third round out here had a great time. the course was in fabulous condition. went with two friends and played the course in just under four hours. my first two rounds here we played the black tees, we had scored in the low eighties and upper seventies, so we decided to play the gold tees, it played for a fun round as you were able to put yourself in scoring position on the majority of holes depending on pin placements. greens are true and fast, they hold very well for the most part but undulation can make missing your target penalizing. This is a great course for any player looking to play a scenic course with championship conditions. HCP 0-3 black 4-9 gold- rec*
Nice course
First time playing the course. Really nice practice facility. Pretty good layout from the back tees (some holes needed to be about 30 yards longer so you can hit driver more), excellent tees, fairways were perfect and greens were rolling great! Overall, a nice course that I will definitely play again!
great for all levels
This was a great course with options/decisions to lay up or go for it based on skill level. Course was in great shape and all 4 of us had a blast.
