Blackstone Golf Club
About
Blackstone Golf Club is one of the hidden gems of Chicagoland golf courses. It has one of the most natural landscapes of any course in the area thanks to the incorporation of more than 26 acres of environmentally protected wetlands. Half of the course is routed through dense forests of oak and hickory trees while the other half stretches across lush, open meadows. The wetlands come into play on 13 holes. Bob Lohmann, the golf course’s designer, crafted dramatic bunkers with irregular edges and strategically placed more than 50 of them along the greensides and fairways. It’s not a golf course where you can “grip it and rip it,” instead it will force you to think carefully before each hole. The layout can be a challenging test but four sets of tees and wide, player-friendly fairways make Blackstone G.C. more accessible for a wide range of skill levels.

Would play this course over and over
This is a tough course with the fastest, purest greens in Chicagoland (which is part of why it's so tough). My only complaint was *not* having a fog delay when I played it. The first three holes were fogged in (tee time was 7:00) and almost unplayable as a result. I get that they've got people who play the course alot and know the layout but still... It's $70+ to play the course but it's one of the few courses in Chicago that I would say is worth that amount of money.
Tough course in great condition
Blackstone is a very difficult course to play. Lots of target golf and lots of trouble if you don't place the ball properly. Greens were lighting fast I think around 11 on the stimp meter.
Played late morning and ball seemed to turn slightly at the cup on almost every green.
Lightning fast greens
You MUST have a soft putting stroke to lag it and die it by the hole;
if you're not putting uphill, even 6 footers have to be defensive.
A very nice course to play
Nicely maintained course, with fast greens. Perfect
Best Greens this year!
Very good layout with a nice mix of holes. Really enjoyed the Par 4's. Greens were a lttle worn being I played late in the day, but they were firm and fast. Best set of greens in the area, IMHO. A lot of fun.
Top 20 in Chicago area, worth the drive to God's Country
Played course November 18th. Still in great condition.
Greens had private course like speed and rolled well.
Combination of well manicured visually stimulating links and parkland course design. A treat to play and enjoy.
The course is challenging and the staff was very friendly. The GPS offers distance to multiple points on a hole.
Challenging course in great condtion. I would recomment golfers try it. The GPS is helpful and they maintain the course. Friendly staff including Pro Shop and Grounds crew.
Nice Course, Great Shape for November!
The course was in great shape with limited amount of leaves to find balls under. They do a great job of keeping it in good shape and for the golf now discount hot deals it was one of the nicest tracks. While the total yardage is not long, the wind makes it very difficult. Greens are very fast with a lot of break and the $4.00 bloody mary bar on Sunday mornings before your round start the day off great. Clubhouse people where very nice and made me feel like I was an important customer instead of just taking my money. Keep up the great work.
Good course, Not a good value
This was my first time getting out toward Marengo for golf. I was told by the people who played with us that we should come back in the summer when the course is in much better shape. The fairways and greens are well maintained. The pin placements were unfair at best. Perhaps to make up for the lack of bite that the course posesses. It's a nice track. The back nine is much more interesting than the front. The main problem I see with this course is that it the management has hyped up the course and it does not live up to the billing. It's a fairly young course that has not grown into it's lofty expectations. this course would be aptly priced at $35-$55
Considering that you can play, Eagle Ridge, Gearge Dunne National, Thunderhawk, for that price. These are muture high quality courses. Why not Blackstone?
Good layout, very good greens
A very good golf course and worth the drive; it's near Marengo IL a far northwest suburb of Chicago. Conditioning is always very good, greens are very good and can be very speedy. Staff is always friendly and welcoming. Despite the distance we play this course multiple times during the year.
Excellent Course. Great fast greens Always in great shape.
Best course for the money within 50 miles. A need to play course!
GREAT VALUE IN THE STICKS
BLACKSTONE HAS ALL THE VARIETY THAT ONE COULD POSSIBLY WANT IN A ROUND OF GOLF, PARKLAND AREAS, WETLANDS AND LINKS. GREAT VALUE FOR WHAT YOU GET.
GPS ON CART VERY ACCURATE AND HELPFUL, COURSE WAS IN GREAT SHAPE THE DAY I PLAYED CONSIDERING THE DROUGHT WE HAD THIS PAST SUMMER
Great green complexes, Great layout!
Best public course greens in the area! Private course condition on a public course. Great value.
I'd Rather Be North
I've played this course several time this year. Marengo is a haul from where I'm at(45 minutes) but it is worth it. I believe I haven't paid more than $35-40 to play here, while this course is easily $80-90 anywhere else. The course is well maintained; great sand, even tee boxes, fast greens. I've said that the greens are the fastest I've played in Illinois, which makes the approach shot even harder, and with elevated and breaking greens making 2 putts consistently is a challenge. The pace of play is enforced and for a weekend get away I'd rather be north than in the Wheaton area where pace of play is close to 5 hourse. To those of you who bring your own beverages it's the only course that allows bottles on the course.
This course is excellant
5 differant tees offer range of golf for all.Tough but fair course with challeges on most every hole.Layout was nicely done.A diamond in the rough.
Bring your A game if the wind is a blowing!
Excellent coarse on a fairly rolling piece of terrain. Green complexes tightly bunkered with large undulating greens. Be sure to play the proper tees .
improved over the years
green is faster than ever. play from black to make some holes interesting.
Course is great. Staff is not to friendly.
Challenging golf course from the Back tees. Greens are very quick and contoured. Pro shop/Bar staff not to friendly.
This course is exellent
This course is very challenging, and is in great condition.
Nice Course! Challenging but, fair.
For the most part course was very fair. The overall layout and conditions were very good. The only complaint I would have is that some of the pin placements were on crests. Not even the PGA would put up with those locations!
