On back 9 Photo submitted by Lsj021 on 11/18/2012
Quarry Pines
This is a fun course and very very challenging at the same time beautiful scenery The only thing I would recommend is a driving range and maybe an upgrade to the restaurant
Great Morning 9!
I love the 6am tee times. We got on at 6:40 for the Back Nine. The Back 9 takes you thru the old Quarry. It was Beautiful! Don't let that fool you it was difficult and at times intimidating. I LOVED it cant wait to get on again. 7am or earlier!
Back 9
Played the front 9 before and had to come back to finish. Next time I’ll do all 18
pace of play
We finished in four hours 15 minutes for four players two playing off black and two playing off copper. We did look for balls a couple of times. We let a single player through on the front nine. Another single caught up to us on the 13 hole. We had two young players drive a head of us on the 13 hole and they got into trouble on the 14 ,16, 17 and we ended up waiting. The single behind us did not pass but he was waiting for us. No marshal on the course. The single was upset on the time it took him to play the back nine. Singles should realize that playing sometimes takes two hours to play a nine he could of teamed up with the twosome.
Pine
I did not expect paying 30 dollar extra for my wife riding on cart, specially when round of my golf included cart. Sorry, no more future golf booking at this facility.
Great course
Great course with staff willing to make the golf experience pleasant !
A gem in the desert
Great course with friendly staff. The front nine is doable, the second 9 are challenging. Do not try to be a hero and play from the silver tees. Course is narrow and you will find lots of lost balls in the desert. The back nine is very unique, need a cart for that part. The fairways and greens are carved in the quarry. Play early in the summer always.
Fun course
In nice shape but greens are a little slow.
Pace was somewhat slow as well.
New carts are very nice and hopefully rates won’t reflect them.
Always a Treat
To have the opportunity to play this course is always a treat. Every hole is different with its own particular challenges. From water hazards, to abysses, to sand traps, there will always be something to get your attention. Highly recommend giving this course a try.
Fun to play
Good conditions. Greens somewhat slow.
A challenging course!
Disappointing return visit
I’ve played Quarry Pines many times over the years, so this isn’t a one-off impression. There are a couple of positives worth noting, but overall the course has taken a step backward.
Pace of play has improved significantly—we were able to finish in 4 hours and 15 minutes, which is a big plus and very appreciated.
However, several key aspects have declined. We were required to sign a release for the new carts, yet ended up being given one of the old, worn-out carts. To make matters worse, the GPS systems have been removed, which is a noticeable downgrade and takes away from the overall experience.
The bunkers are in very poor condition and essentially unplayable right now. The greens were another disappointment—slow, bumpy, and lacking the quality you’d expect.
Course aesthetics have also taken a hit. While I understand the reasoning behind tree removal, it’s hard to see it as a positive when it results in noticeably less shade, especially in the Arizona heat.
On the positive side, the fairways and tee boxes are in good shape and remain one of the stronger aspects of the course.
That said, with the number of solid golf options in the area, Quarry Pines has unfortunately dropped to the bottom of my list for now.
Once Upon a Time
Once upon a time, this was a pretty decent course. I really used to like this course. The front 9 is pretty easy, the back nine is challenging. I played on Sat and it took 32 min to get through the first hole. There were a couple of young ladies that had clearly not held a golf club before and knew nothing of etiquette. That aside, the front 9 greens especially are very poor. They are like shag carpet and overrun with some sort of weed. It is more like mowing a field down than a proper green. The fairways are like concrete. Seems like the greens and fairways aren't getting enough water. There were a few unfair pin placements as well. On #10, which is a challenging green with a false front, the pin was placed on the very front slope and it was not possible to stop the ball if you missed the hole.
There is also a pine tree on the tee box on #7 that has become so overgrown that is to the point of unfair when playing the back tees.
Most of all, the frustrating part of this course is that they charge like they are a premiere golf course, when they are barely a step above a muni course. This course hasn't had a driving range in around 5 years also, so no chance of getting a proper warm up in, yet they feel it is ok to charge $106 before noon, for this course.
This course is not a $50 course.
I'm saddened by the green conditions that I experienced this week. They are so bad.
