On back 9 Photo submitted by Lsj021 on 11/18/2012
Challenging Course
The back 9 was really tough. Great views, friendly staff.
Good value for money
You must hit in the middle no forgiveness being off
Interesting layout
Back nine has some special holes, your tee box choice will influence how hard the course plays immensely! On out visit, (Feb 2025), the greens were not in great condition, it appears the winter over seeding did not take real well.
Greens rough
Usually the most important concern is the conditions of the greens. You can find grass to TeeOff on or in fairways to hit off of, but if greens are not good you are in for a long day. greens were rough. Construction on hole 2 and was not told where to go to tee off. Par 4 made into par 3 about 150 yards and a blind shot. 3 groups on hole. Layout was good especially the back nine .
Greens need further recovery
Great layout but the greens are not in good shape. There is a lot of traffic noise.
Poor condition and worse staff
Second time with the same experience with the staff. 1hour frost delay, understandable. Inside staff couldn’t give accurate info about delay. The bag staff were both rude and unprofessional. Buddies had an equally poor experience with the starter that I didn’t observe. Unfortunately this is same experience as the last time I was there.
Great design with two unique nines. Course condition was iffy with thin fairways and patchy greens. Though greens rolled well.
I’ll never go back because of the staff. Staff suggested that I not come back and that was about the only part of my interaction that we can agree on.
5 hour round
Way too long time for the round. No marshalls.
You just stop caring...
Disappointed
Played here many times. Has always been in great shape - winter or spring. Not this year. Greens and tee boxes sub par. Staff told us the course has changed ownership. Watch ratings - and prices - before driving from Phoenix. No longer worth the drive.
Very disappointing
Drove 90 miles from Phoenix specifically to play the back 9 in the Quarry. Unfortunately the starter, or course management, was not pairing groups up and created such a long delay that we didn’t get a chance to play the back 9. One of the rangers on the course told us people missed their tee times and the starter just let them jump in anyways. That is ridiculous.
When we made the turn to hole 10, there were 5 groups on the hole. It took 55 minutes from finishing hole 9 to finishing hole 10. Nobody managing pace of play. We asked for a refund on the back 9, but told they only do that for inclement weather.
If you’re not local, don’t waste your time driving down there. You probably won’t get to play the best holes.
Great layout, beautiful views, lighting greens; fast but fair. Tight on back 9 but very enjoyable to play.
Great experience
First time playing this course and was very impressed. Great staff and course was challenging. Greens were a little rough but understandable for winter golf.
I paid for this?
The golf course had some of the most unfriendly staff I have ever seen at a golf course in 20 years. We made the mistake of driving our carts out into the parking lot and you would have thought we killed somebody. To say we were scolded is an understatement… was borderline physically assaulted by the cart guy. Then got a tongue lashing from the ranger who then let 2 groups that were supposed to be behind us go in front of us…we should have left at that point but we didn’t. The front was very subpar and not in very good shape. Dusty and just very pedestrian with boring holes. I will say the back was much much better…maybe not the greatest of shape but extremely interesting holes. It was like playing golf on mars…very barren but still pretty cool layout. If you can look past the really bad rude staff and have patience to be bored with the front for 2 hours the back is worth the trouble. Honest though you are probably better off finding someplace else to play and spend your money.
Amazing setup
Liked the variety of hole setups. Lots of up & downs & carries over canyons. Visually intimidating but not so bad when you actually hit the ball. Greens could use some work but overall good value for the money & worth seeing the different holes. Not your ordinary back and forth course.
Two different 9’s
The experience did not start well with a harsh scolding for taking the cart to the car to load up. No one told us not to go to the lot until we were at the car and it was a really big deal. Not a great way to start the day. The rangers knew some customer service training. The front nine was less than we expected and the conditions were below average. The back nine is off the charts, very scenic and dramatic. Elevation changes and forced carries are common place on this nine holes. Happy we were able to see and play the back nine but overall not worth $100 price tag.
Nice View
Staff was not friendly, slow play. Difficult course
