On back 9 Photo submitted by Lsj021 on 11/18/2012
Not worth the money
This course has always been one of my favorites. Now, not so much. Greens are slow & bumpy. Bunkers are either wet & rocky or dry & rocky. Rough is so thick in places, if you miss a fairway you may not find your ball. Fairways are mostly ok, except where they’re wet.
All in all…Too pricey for the shape it’s in now.
Best Value Course in Arizona
Course is absolutely stunning this course could double there rates and I would still play here amazing conditions many picturesque holes
I was charged $99 for Golf Pass on top of my $70 green fee
I must not have seen the fine print that charged me $99 when I made my reservation. Look out when you use this service!
Tough layout, good shots not rewarded
If you like mountain courses with firm greens that won't hold a well placed shot, then Quarry Pines is for you! I had 10 approach shots that either hit the green or landed in front that wouldn't hold and ended up long. Round took 4.5 hours.
The fairways are narrow and anything off the fairway is likely to be a lost or unplayable ball. The course is picturesque, being carved out of an abandoned quarry, but not my cup of tea. My best shot of the day was the picture I took of #17 green with the Sombrero formation in the background.
Unacceptable groundskeepers
I rarely upload review unless I have a phenomenal experience or a poor experience. I shot my best ever front 9 today. With that being said we had a guy on a riding lawnmower follow us on almost ever hole on the back 9. He would stop 20 yards behind us and wait for us to hit and then push up closer on us as we go down the fairway. Shooting my record game and having the annoyance of a lawnmower on almost every back nine hole was super discouraging. Not sure if I would have played better without that but doing this on a Monday Holiday morning was not acceptable. If I knew that was going to happen I would have paid for 9 holes and stopped after the front 9.
Very fun course
Very fun challenging course to play. Wonderful elevation change on par 3s and drivable par 4s if you’re so bold enough. Would recommend to anyone who lives there or even people like me just passing through.
Great fun, but hard!
For a high handicap player this was very challenging, but also very fun. Nicely laid out course with very "fun" holes. The narrow fairways and sloped (fast) greens were very challenging. The views were amazing. This was the second time I've played this course. Due to the slowed up play on the back 9, and the late day, I only played 13 holes - still, well worth it.
Cool place to golf, ease of front nine offset by
back nine difficulty
Always a Challenge
I’ve never seen their bunkers in such poor conditions. Most were nothing but hard dirt that nobody should have to play from. Course and greens were in good shape.
The back nine is very demanding for keeping your ball in play. Groups take much longer to play it, compared to the front, so plan on close to 5 hours if you play in the afternoon. #11, the extremely difficult par 3 signature hole, had one group teeing off and another waiting. That’s after the usual ten minute wait on #10 tee!
We love the course and its challenges, but there are golfers who shouldn’t play there.
This course has looks
This was a very fun course. I especially liked the back "quarry" 9 that offered not only amazing scenery, but some challenges. I highly recommend and do plan on playing it again.
Quarry Pines Review
Outstanding golf facility.
All the golf staff were very pleasant (pro shop, starter & food/drink attendant).
Course conditions perfect with perfect tee boxes and fairways and excellent greens. Some of the bunks could use a little more sand but overall a wonderful golf experience, particularily some the holes and corresponding views.
Marshall monitored the pace but we had an early time and finished under 4 hours. Stayed for lunch and even though the course was busy, there did not seem to be any back-ups.
Great Course
For a high handicapper this course was tough, but a lot of fun too. The late afternoon rate was a good value. The first nine holes played reasonably fast but the last few of the back nine were very slow. Part of this was the high degree of difficulty. Had to stop after #12. Still, nice course, great fairways (if you can stay on them), and very (emphasis very) different greens. Look forward to playing next time I’m in Tucson.
Mike is 100% not the first person anyone should have to encounter when dropping your bag off. He started back pedaling when he realized I was not going to tolerate his unwelcoming attitude. The course has a cool layout with lots of elevation changes but is very unforgiving. The greens are almost as hard as the cart paths.
The greens were in rough shape
I like the course layout and its challenges. This is the worst I have seen the greens in the last 4 years. They didn’t roll out smoothly. They were pretty bumpy.
