del Lago Golf Club

Not fair to evaluate with punched greens. Ruined the experience. Should be fine in 2 weeks.

To preface my review - I'm 64, work at another Tucson golf course, play 5 days a week carrying an 9 handicap. I had heard good things about Del Lago GC from many of the golfers I have played with (most were Del Lago members that came to my club for a change), so I decided to make the 55 minute drive to play a round. The GM was behind the Pro Shop counter and was a pleasure to talk with. The driving range is standard with good quality balls. Great for loosening up. The course is in great condition for the beginning of summer! Greens had been punched, dressed and rolled a couple of days earlier. When I heard that, I expected the worst. I was pleasantly surprised on #1 green! They were really good, a little slower than I like, but the ball rolled true and broke a expected. The course is a lot of fun! Challenging, beautiful and it has some really interesting holes. Neither my buddy, nor I, had ever played this course. With no "local knowledge" of the course layout and slopes, the round was a learning experience! As with many local courses, errant shots into the brush are gone. Take the penalty and drop a ball! Five different tee locations to suit players of all abilities. After a 3-1/2 hour round I couldn't stop smiling! It was a blast! I will definitely be making the drive again in the not too distant future!

Arrived at my tee time to find out that half the course was closed for maintenance. I booked on Golf Now for full price and there was no notification regarding the status of the course. Others playing that day were paying substantially less due to the lack of 18 holes (repeated back 9 to get a full 18). Del Lago ought to make notifications if half the course is shut down, my email and phone number were provided via Golf Now, and they definitely should have offered a discount. I was not pleased. (Course was in good condition, is a good course to play but customer service is lacking regarding the issues I just covered).

Tough course. Certainly one of the most challenging courses I've been to. Deadly Greenside bunkers on some holes. Greens were the fastest I've played on but my playing partner said it was slower than before. The price was cheap but idk if I'd put myself through that front 9 again until I get better. The cart attendant was super cool too. And she came by more than a few times vs other courses.

Couple cons. Practice balls were pretty expensive. It was around 20 balls for the price of a full bucket in other places. But I guess the cheap price compensates. And then pace of play came to a 5-10 min wait per hole on the back 9. Some foursome a couple groups up was having a tougher time than I was.

Challenging, great condition, scenic, and the staff is super friendly.

I really enjoyed playing the course. The starter and course ranger were very friendly and helpful with recommended shots on certain holes. The course is scenic, challenging, and fun. I will play there again.

If you tell the starter you’ve played there before he shouldn’t go through his entire lecture, it’s really annoying. He’s a nice guy but enough is enough.

Great course set up for a lefty that fades. Lots of dog leg lefts, Online $30. Met a few nice guys taking advantage of that. Staff was cordial. More than a few comments on t boxes were “this could be a really spectacular hole”… I’ll be back.

I really enjoyed my last round at del Lago. I lost quite a few golf balls this time. ( Roughly 26) I've only been playing for just over a year. I do like the layout. Everything is in great shape. I thought I was going to have a day until my second shot off the 1st tee. First shot went straight and far. That was the last to go straight for me. The greens weren't super slow for how soft they felt under my feet. Gave up around the 16th and decided to get some lunch. The bar area is fantastic. Very comfortable atmosphere and the food was outstanding. Even though I played like absolute crap, it was still a great day to take in the sun and hang out with my wife.

This course always presents challenges during every hole. Shot accuracy is a premium. Course was in good condition, yet greens were difficult to gage speed as roll out seemed slow and bumpy. Only real negative for the course is the bunkers which contain a good supply of small rocks which can damage clubs.

First time playing today and I had an great experience. It was too busy so pace of play was fast. Ended up playing 18 in 3 hours. The greens were in great condition, but the fairways left something to be desired. Overall with the deal from GolfNow I would return without question

The course was in excellent conditions for this time of year. The fairways were still grassee and the greens were a little slow but puttable. The bunkers were half sand and the other half were dirt. It seems the Tucson courses are moving to eliminate the sand and go to dirt or grass.

Haven't played this course in a couple of years. They have the best greens I've played in a longtime. And I see they are doing a lot of brush cutting also. I'll be back soon.
