Great course
Course was in great shape. Starter was friendly. Practice range was very good.
Will play again very soon. Rivals all the best courses in the area. Very enjoyable
Great Course
The layout is very good. The greens were very SLOW and had a lot of WEEDS. Never seen greens like this. Very slow play.
Expected More
The course is a perfect challenge for this 18 handicap golfer. There is a lot of fairway sand bunkers, (too many for my liking) that I had the privilege of hitting out of 4 times. My disappointment was the greens; just too much crab grass. Several times the grab grass was in my putt line and interfered with my putt. Also, it seems that very few golfers repair their ball indentions on the green. Since I have played two other local course this week, (not advertised as a pristine course like Venetian) that had amazing greens, I have to blame the Venetian Greens Keeper for the crab grass on the greens. Most fairways and tee boxes are in good shape with a few needing some attention.
The club house is impressive and the staff was professional. A big bonus is the free driving range for paying golfers, if you don't mind hitting into water.
I would play this course again but it's certainly not worth paying full price. Now that I am more familiar with the course and fairway sand bunker locations, hopefully next time I will be able to take a few strokes off my game. .
Nice Course but watch out for rough
Nice layout fairly easy course for 18 handicapper from the whites. Friendly staff, good price (anything outside of the Northeast is a good price). Shame the bar was closed and lunch was limited to 2pm and dinner starts at 5pm.
Not bad for $35.00
Layout is awesome!
Greens are ok, some crabgrass on them
Fairways are nice.
I will pay the $35.00 to play it again. But when January comes around and they want $90.00 to play it, FORGET IT!!!
A top course in Sarasota county
The course was great! Tipped gentleman after round to take care of clubs went to get clubs with car he left them at drop off didn’t wait to put them in car nor did he clean them . A five dollar tip should get u more help than that. He watched us get out of our cars and load them . And I’m a blue collar guy I just thought he should have done more .
Needs some work
Nice layout however the overall condition of the course needs some attention.
This should happen since the word is the developer, Lennar, has sold the course effect Dec 1st.
Lennar obviously stopped putting money into the upkeep.
New owner is what was needed because it is an excellent layout
Greens
The greens were in rough shape with really small patches of what looked like crab grass .. putting was tough
Crabgrass infested greens
Most of the greens have patches(some big patches) of crabgrass. Makes it very difficult to putt. The range is nice, the staff very nice and helpful. Don’t plan on true rolling greens.
Expected more, ok for a practice round, if you don't plan to care about putting; don't spend more than 30$
Greens have significant issue with crabgrass, while it appears they are trying to cut and roll to keep them in working condition, don't bother with more than two strokes for the green. Green speed is quite inconsistent, and if there is a crab grass between the ball and the hole (which if you haven't holed out, is very likely), then true putts will be far and few. (i.e. equivalent of your 10-20$ course)
Fairways were in decent condition, you'll find dry patches and crabgrass, but not a significant issue in most instances. (i.e. equivalent of your 25-35$ course).
Rough was in decent condition (i.e. equivalent of your 25-35$ course).
Sand traps need significant work, while playable, I would argue they are the equivalent of a lower end municipal in their current shape. (i.e. equivalent of your 10-20$ course).
Course Design, ok, nothing unique. I've played 200+ courses in my life, very rarely have I not taken a picture of at least one hole, even the crappiest municipal typically has something unique or redeeming to photo. This course didn't warrant a single photo, the nicest view on the course was the clubhouse (which is nice).
Pace of play for 18, ~ 3 hrs., though expect significantly longer, we got caught behind a group on the back 9 with a few old guys that took 12 shots (per person) to reach the green (it took 3 holes before they let us through),
We played the second tee box from tips (blue tees I believe), these tees have their own unique issue. These tees and likely the tees behind and one in front have a fee blind shots off the tee because they don't maintain the bushes in front of the tee, I imagine this is less based on course design and more based on lack of proper maintenance.
Plus, range is included with price. Aqua range.
The course is for the most part well marked, which hasn't been my experience on a number of golf courses in Florida, so for those without GPS, its a plus.
I had high hopes for the course based on the level of review, and was rather disappointed, in its current condition I would recommend playing other courses. I think its an ok course for a sub-30$ price, if you want to practice some shots on a course, but bear in mind that putting will be very hit and miss and you may need to move the ball to some grass occasionally, even when on the fairway.
Beautiful Course
Have played over 40 courses in the area and this course stacks up with the best. Friendly staff - challenging layout and greens and bunkers.
Disappointed carts didn’t have GPS Installed which made it challenging getting read on yardage.
Overall was a pleasant experience and would return. Finished in under 4 hours.
great fairways , fast greens
Sara Bay Country club was beautifiul. The fairways were excellent. The greens were super fast . The Bermuda grass off the fairways ate your clubs up..Made it difficult to get out of trouble
Almost great
Would have been five star except for green speed is too slow for the amount of undulation and in some cases the undulation is severe. Fairways are being watered frequently so no roll makes the course play longer than the yardage.
