Wildcat Golf Club - The Highlands
About
The Highlands Course is probably the more stimulating of the two tracks at Wildcat GC, offering better views of the city, natural wetlands and grasses, and some intriguing flat sand bunkers. Case must have an affinity for the No. 7, because like the Lakes track, the 421-yard, par 4 hole 7 is the most difficult rated hole. Watch out for the par 5s on this one, three of which play at or above 570 yards from the tips.
Getting there : From downtown take Hwy. 288 south for 5 miles to Loop 610. Head west and find the Fannin exit, where you'll U-turn under 610 and drive east on the access road to Almeda Rd. Turn right on Almeda and the course is 3 miles further.

Wildcat Highlands
I thought the course was in good condition. The grounds crew was out on the course the entire round. I had to politely ask the man in the work cart to stop talking on his phone as he sat on the tee box directly behind mine as I was trying to tee off. In addition, one of the work crew was using a very loud blower to clear the clippings and he was following us on at least 4-5 holes. It became very annoying. Other than those issues, the rest fo the round was very enjoyable.
Nice Course, Challenging Layout
Course was in good condition, even after a day of rain. The greens were soft and rolled true. Some tee boxes could use some TLC. Pace of play was rough, almost 5 hours but to be somewhat expected when trying to beat the heat in the middle of summer.
Lots of elevation changes
From the gold tees, this course is challenging. The design of some holes ( #9 for instance) are quirky with your second shot over a chasm but with the green at a 45 degree angle to the landing area. Many tee shots over forced carries of at least 150 yds and deep rough that will prevent you from finding your lost ball. The greens were fabulous as were the fairways. Lots of steep elevation changes with many uphill second shots. Driving range needed mor booths, though, since many students practicing - which led players to struggle in finding an open bay. Overall I enjoyed the aesthetics of the complex.
An Eye Pleaser
This course fit my eye except for that “nasty” tester on the back nine that forces accurate distance control. Love the track, will play again, greens were not consistent but maybe that was the fact the I am not use to the type of bermuda in them. Overall, a very fun and challenging course!
A favorite course
No starter a 1st tee and I was a single - no problem except had to wait on 2/3 of the holes. Not a big problem for me but the group ahead felt pushed
fairways intersect
Unfortunately I must give this course a confusing rating. At times we did't know which fairway was the one we we to aim at. This is especially true of No. 9.
No 9 is not near the club house so you continue directly to no. 10. Many of the holes had blinds. Perhaps a second visit would be less confusing but better course direction markers are really needed.
Wildcat Highlands
Good layout, good course conditions but a sub-par experience overall. Staff was not friendly and pace of play was quite slow. Feels like your typical muni.
Tuff
I’ve only been playing golf for about a year. I found the course to be extremely difficult with high grasses. I have never lost so many balls. Although it was a great experience and look forward to playing their other course in the next couple of weeks.
Wind can be a challenge at Wildcat
Windy afternoons on Highlands Course can be a challenge when your gusting in the 20mph+ range. Greens are starting to grow now, but still never shaggy really and roll smooth. A few very quirky holes on this 18, but overall a good value for under $50 on weekend.
Good round
Wildcat Highlands is a good course overall except for 3 ridiculous holes(7,9 and 15). Obsession for par 72's courses provokes this kind of holes. Course conditions were good as usually here(except for the bunkers that is the great forgotten in course maintenance worldwide). Pace of play was ok until the last few holes were we had to wait more than 10 minutes on the tee
