Wildcat Golf Club - The Highlands
About
The Highlands Course is probably the more stimulating of the two tracks at Wildcat GC, offering better views of the city, natural wetlands and grasses, and some intriguing flat sand bunkers. Case must have an affinity for the No. 7, because like the Lakes track, the 421-yard, par 4 hole 7 is the most difficult rated hole. Watch out for the par 5s on this one, three of which play at or above 570 yards from the tips.
Getting there : From downtown take Hwy. 288 south for 5 miles to Loop 610. Head west and find the Fannin exit, where you'll U-turn under 610 and drive east on the access road to Almeda Rd. Turn right on Almeda and the course is 3 miles further.

No wildcats see but plenty of excitement
I don't play many premium golf courses around town but this course felt like one. From the tee boxes to the greens, there is much to appreciate here: blind shots, interesting holes, greatly cared for greens that challenge your touch and skill. You fee as though you are in the Texas hill country on the Highlands course.
The restaurant sandwich was delicious, and serving staff members were courteous and helpful.
Good course
I came to Houston on a golf trip. Played several courses in the area. I really liked the layout of this course. Greens were in great shape. They were the fastest that I played on the trip. I would play this course again.
Links golf in Texas
Fine course for the money. Sister Lakes Course also great
True to it's name
Great course layout, greens were pristine...lots of forced carries, blind shots, uphill lies. Challenging but fair. Clubhouse facilities, driving range (mats), bar & food was great. Good beer on the beer carts and friendly cart girls. The pro-shop / check in staff could certainly be more friendly and welcoming.
Great Value
Highlands course is fun & challenging to play. Unique experience with the backdrop of city.
Course was well maintained and greens in great shape.
Bad design & worse course maintenance
Most bunkers had little to no sand in them - erosion in almost every one. The course design is awful and is fit in a space far too small.
Practice facilities are excellent for a public course. And the greens were in good shape.
Great golf course
Great round, ready to go back but have to work . Lol, I would definitely recommend all my golf buddies. Staff was really nice, thank you Wildcat. See you soon!!
Interesting course
Course was in good condition in general. Elevation changes make things more interesting than the normal Houston area course. Greens were fairly interesting and rolled true if slightly slow. Only negative is several holes require advance knowledge of how far to drive off the tee. There are good marking on the tee maps, but some of the numbers were a bit worn and hard to see. Would play again.
Cold day in Houston
I thought Houston would be nice and warm! Played in 40 degree weather, so course was wide open. For this time of year it was in good condition. Nice smooth greens. A few bare lies in the rough, but that is expected for winter golf. Played from tips and it was a good challenge. Course knowledge would be good, as some holes should be seen once, to see how it is best played. A few holes were difficult to decide on sight lines off the tee. This course was built on a landfill. My only caveat was that you would have thought that since the architect practically had a blank canvas, he would have thought of a routing that would have made walking the course easy. I would not recommend walking, as there are some long traverses from the green to the next tee. Visually a very nice course, with much diversity in the hole layouts. I would definitely play again.
Great layout
After a week of rain the course was in great condition. Cart path only but was expected. Always love playing here. Will be back.
Convenient, fun and challenging
I took advantage of a golfnow special and went with a co-worker/friend of mine to go play. The course is challenging with a very thick rough and if you miss the fairway you might as well not even try to look for your ball. It was a very hot summer day, 100+, but the water on the course was cold, and the course was fairly empty so we were able to take a good break after the first 9. I would definitely play here again, especially when my game improves. There are a lot of blind shots, but that's part of the fun, you get a surprise on almost every hole, especially when the bunker is hidden down below and behind a rough.
Hi "cisco74787 " Thank you for the great review! We hope the course wasn't to challenging for you today. We hope to see you back out on the course again in the near future. Don't forget to book your next round with us online.
better hit the fairways all the time
1. standing on the tee you cannot tell which fairway is for the hole that you are playing. no markers to guide you to the right fairway, no hazard poles either.
2. i mean i know a bad shot should be penalized but 2 feet left of the cart path and you are basically out of bounds left or right, not fun even the pros can miss more than that.
3. tee boxes grass way too high to use a tee on par 3 's, greens were very slow and they had the automatic sprinkler system on during the round. bunkers were hard and dry.
4. i would not play here again, i know all the houston courses blame the sparse course conditions on the heat but to be fair lower some of your greens fees if the course is not up to par this time of year.
Thanks for the review! We appreciate your comments.
The Highlands Course is definitely a challenge, and you will hear most of our players refer to it as the harder course between the two. With that being said, it is also the most popular.
During the summer months is also when maintenance is to be done during the two main golf seasons. We hope you give us another chance, but the course is actually in great shape for this time of year with a little thanks to the extra rain we have received.
Also, the best bet would be to definitely check out the hole layouts located on the scorecard prior to teeing off.
Thanks.
Nice Round(s)
Got a good deal to come out and play this course. It was hot and there was little to no breeze! My only gripe was that the greens were recently aerated and were sandy (I did not see any warning of this when I booked). The fairways were well maintained and the bunkers were even in pretty good shape. The course was so wide open, that my partner and I actually played two rounds! If you want to play into some hills with blind shots, this is a great course. I would definitely play it again.
Thanks for coming out! Sorry for the greens, but we try our best to get the message out there. Greens are coming along nicely, and we hope you will try us again soon once the greens recover fully from the aerification. Thanks!

Hi "earlfruge" Thank you so much for the great review! We apologize about the course being cart path only today, but after a few days of rain this is mandatory. We appreciate your patronage and hope to see you back out on the course in the near future.
