Wildcat Golf Club - The Lakes
About
Architect Roy Case created both courses on this new 36-hole, daily-fee facility that is located only 10 minutes from downtown Houston. In addition to the views of the skyline, Case had at his disposal a touch of Hill Country terrain with dramatic elevation changes, as well as the typical Houston- area prairie lands. From this he was able to carve the links-style Highlands Course and the more traditional Lakes Course.
As its name implies, the Lakes Course, which tips out at a par 72 7,016 yards, is loaded with water. The best hole is the 539-yard No. 7, which is listed as the number one handicap. Interestingly, the four easiest holes are the par 3s, which range from 165 to 218 yards.

Challenging with rare elevation changes
It was a wet, sloppy, muddy round post-Beryl so it's hard for me to give the course a fair rating. It was my first time playing it in nearly a decade so I've been overdue. Course is always challenging and I like the fact that it has elevation changes unlike practically every other Houston area course. Some of the blind shots can be a bit frustrating, though. I'm looking forward to getting back out there again on a drier day.
Good Condition and Challenging
The staff and facilities are excellent and take good care of you. The course (Lakes) is in excellent condition especially considering we were hit by hurricane Beryl 3 days ago. The greens rolled a little slow but true, the fairways were mowed and clear of debris with good grass. The rough was a little shaggy but that’s what rough is supposed to be. Most of the bunkers had been reconditioned after the storm and the remaining ones were being worked on. There was a very slow foursome in front of us who ignored the marshalls. Once we skipped a hole to,get around them we played in less than 4 hours. My main complaint is that the course presents you with many blind shots. So if you don’t know the course well it is easy to get out of position and leave yourself with difficult recovery shots leading to big scores. Also many holes require a long carry over trouble off the tees. As players in our 70s we should have moved up from the White tees to shorter tees but we were not advised well by the starter about what to expect. One more note, there are few trees and little shade on this course so be prepared for intense sun and heat in summer. Finally, great views of NRG Stadium and downtown Houston, and nice breezes, on the high points of the course.
Great course
Beginner golfer and this plenty of challenges and made me realize I need to work on my game. Great layout with plenty of hills and water hazards.
Awesome Golf
I took my son to play here for his birthday. It was an extremely great time, Great course, great staff, and the course was in immaculate condition. This now has become mine and my son’s favorite course in the Houston Texas area. We look very forward to playing this course regularly. Make sure you bring a lot of balls unless you know how to strike the ball well. Thanks for making my son’s birthday and I around Golf wanted to remember.
Tough course, lots of water!
Played this course again and it is still quite challenging. Lots of water and fast greens. Course is in good shape.
This course is beautiful
This golf course is very well maintained, beautiful, a little difficult, but fun.
I Personally, I liked it because there were many lakes.
The fairway and green were excellent.
