Auchmill Golf Course
About
Offering inspiring views of Aberdeen and Aberdeen Airport, Auchmill Golf Club is a municipal golf course with a world-class pedigree. Originally built in the early 1970s as a nine-hole course and later extended to a full 18, Auchmill was designed by the triumvirate of Brian Hugget, Neil Coles and Roger Dyer, meaning the course was laid out with the experience of a top golf course architect (Dyer), a former Ryder Club player (Coles) and a known British pro (Hugget).
Auchmill was designed to take advantage of its unique topography, meaning golfers will be challenged by a variety of lies andinteresting hole placements. Four par 5s will have long hitters reaching for their big guns, while tricky par 3s and challenging par 4s will have golfers of all levels working to put down a good score.
This wooded parkland course that plays to nearly 6,000 yards will not just give you interesting holes that are aptly and cunningly named - like "The Frog" and "The Quarry" - but it will also give players a great golfing experience for their money. With green fees ranging from £15 to £20, Auchmill Golf Club offers golfers a great golfing experience without denting their wallet.

Just off the 4th tee “very nice” NOT Photo submitted by Steve5755845 on 08/09/2020
Worth a visit
Good layout, great views and reasonable condition.
The greens aren’t great, a few bare patches but overall it’s well worth a visit.
There’s a real variety of holes so you’ll prob hit every club in the bag.
Clubhouse not always open.
Review
Turned up this morning looking for a game. Guy at starters was friendly and helpful. I enjoyed my game. Greens were quite fast and good. Reasonably generous fairways. Some bunkers gur and under construction. I would play again
Auchmill
I’ve been playing this course for almost 30 years now and was disappointed to find it in its current condition since it’s no longer a council course you would expect it to be better maintained than the nearby council courses but in fact it’s way behind. Greens were poor, if your ball ran off the fairway it was a struggle to find in the first cut the bunkers had more stones than sand although very few bunkers are even still playable trees from storms over the past few years still haven’t been dealt with hard to recommend in its current state
A course that actually is good but does, indeed, need some work…..
Having seen the course looking horrendous in recent years was pleasantly surprised by the condition early May. Starter informed me 6 people have been working on the course so perhaps things are looking up. Fairways great but greens inconsistently varied from slow to lightning fast. If you’re unlucky enough to hit the deep rough good luck,it’s brutal. And bunkers,as previously mentioned, are “questionable “. Dog walkers are indeed an issue but going by the amount of dog skitters on the course some of them could be doing with a golf ball off the heid. The walkers, not the dogs. If it is 6 greenkeepers or just the one, they deserve great credit as the course has been turned around fantastically well. With a bit more work this could be a wee gem.
A course that could be good but needs work
I turned up for a tee time with a sign that said go to the clubhouse, which was closed. Then went to the starter box only to find out that it too was closed. Met with a sign stating “Starter on course report to clubhouse” which as previously mentioned, was closed.
I was then met by the starter whilst walking to the first tee and confirmed my name, however no scorecard given.
Course is challenging, however when the fairway looks like first cut of rough it is hard to tell what is fairway and what’s not. Bunkers are horrendous and haven’t been maintained with beer cans and other things in them.
Parts of the course are boggy and unplayable.
A massive issue (out of control of the course) is dog walkers, it can be infuriating when trying to tee off and a dog walkers just walks out in-front of you and then glare at you, almost as if you are inconveniencing them!
I read that it is a single green keeper responsible for the course and I take my hat off to him! It’s a massive course and must be hard to maintain.
In terms of council courses in Aberdeen there are better (and cheaper) alternatives which are far better than this.
I will not be returning until improvements are made.
Good course verry good value can't complain for the price
Good but has non golfing issues which is killing the course.
Talked to a member during round, and he explained the issues course has with dog walkers allowing their dogs in course bunkers which makes maintaining bunkers impossible.
He said also has issues with yobs on bikes average 6 times every year destroying greens.
I did see signs of that on the 13th green. Explained course only has 1 greenkeeper which shocked me ,but congrats he has done amazing work.
Such a shame if member i talked to leaves as he said has given a lot of free time to help, but feeling he may go elsewhere so he can play more. Shame as course is outstanding for febuary but i can understand frustrations.
One and only
One and only title is because I was the only one there apart from the very nice guy in the kiosk. 1028am tee time turned into 10am as there was no one in front and there was very little to none warm up area. Small putting green with no pins. So I didn’t bother. Being October the course in my opinion is in great condition. The ground under foot was very wet in places but that was down to some wet weather lately I think. Greens were in great condition to. Amenities well nothing I didn’t use or see any. But defo go back in drier conditions
Have played Auchmill 3 times now. Challenging yet good course. Greens are very fast and the rough is really rough!
Some bunkers are in questionable condition with weeds etc growing in them.
Overall a good course to play and will continue playing auchmill when I have the chance.
Great Value
Good test for all golfers. Nice variation of holes, length, slopes etc. Overall condition good and green's good. You can tell course run on tight budget as some areas a bit scruffy, bunkers, paths etc. Definitely worth playing and great value
Great course for the price
The course was a lot better than expected. Quite a tough course though.
Beautiful course let down by terrible maintenance
This is a beautiful course with an enjoyable selection of holes with well maintained fairways. However this is overshadowed somewhat when every ball that lands slightly off the fairway is instantly lost in massive rows of grass cuttings, just left along the entire length of a fairway from the tee box to the green, this makes and enjoyable yet challenging round of golf quickly become frustrating. As any slightly stray shots equal a lost ball 3ft off the fairway. The bunkers are still in terrible condition as mentioned in older reviews. and numerous feature bunkers are completely overgrown with weeds and unplayable. I’ve heard funding is an issue with this course and it shows, but despite this a clear effort has been made to maintain most of the course. For £15 per person this course is great value. Just abit of refreshing needed in the bunkers and the cuttings cleaned up along the fairways.
Next Tee
It would be go t know what way t go on some of the holes IE the way t next tee. And also if the tee boxes could be marked with what hole u are currently on!
Poor Bunkers
Course was in reasonable condition although the rough is very long & the fairway bunkers are totally overgrown. Some greens showing signs of vandalism.
