Struggling like other public courses

I read the 3 star review, and knew it was because people were just bitter about nyc public courses and what the pandemic did. I wanted to make sure that the course was legit 3 stars. It was.

Pros:

Grass is grown in everywhere, very green

Layout is fair for all golfers of all levels

Carts were fast, check in was easy

Greens are undulating, but in a fun way.

They try to send foursomes off together, making singles wait for bigger groups.

Cons:

Bunkers were all large and in great spots on the golf course…but in poor disrepair.

Greens were slooooooow.

Rough was long, which made it difficult, but it seemed like they were long out of neglect and not intentional difficulty.

No ranger. We were clipping along as a foursome great for 14 holes, then the last 4 took 60 min because the mixed foursome in front of us were not good but they thought it was the US open.

Where there is no grass (like some tee boxes) there is sand. Which I don’t have to tell you changes the way you hit a shot.

It has a lot of potential to be great and looks like at one time it was. It has an old clubhouse and needs some investment. Price is fair - $40 for a cart at 1227 is probably one of the best in the city.

Rough Needs to be Cut

The rough on most holes was pretty long which led to 5 minute search parties trying to find balls on multiple holes. Sand traps are mostly dirt but I was still able to play out of them without much trouble. Some tee boxes are lacking in grass, but I don't find that to be so terrible as long as they are relatively flat (which they are). Greens are in good shape though!

It's a beach

Bit disappointing because I think the conditions were actually BETTER in 2020 that now in 2021. I didn't think the name (Dyker Beach) would mean there was sand on every tee box. They were all in terrible condition. The most annoying part about that is there were plenty of area in much better condition on almost every box, so they just were too lazy to move the tee boxes.

Sand traps haven't been worked on this year (it's August).

Greens were fine.

Needs help

We went out early morning and despite it being early the same bonkers were very poor condition none of them raked. The rock is poorly maintained and too long if you miss the fairway by three yards it's very easy to lose your ball. None of the hall markings or signage was up.The guy behind the counter other personality of a white sponge. Really I went with a bunch of my buddies from Jersey and I was embarrassed and I told them not all courses in New York look like this. Hopefully they get their act together. Still was able to have a great time but we lost a lot of balls that were in play.

Don't golf here.

This place is a complete dump! Don't waste your time. Every single time I go here there 30 min to a hour behind schedule. (Even on a Tuesday afternoon) tee boxes are all dirt. Save your money!

Tee boxes

Every tee box was shot. It does not look like they have put any time into fixing the course.

Enjoyable course

It's a public golf course that's fairly easy to get to from Manhattan. There will be a lot of people on the weekends leading to the slow pace of play, and a lot of wear & tear on the fairways and the greens. Considering that it's in decent shape.

Friendly staff all around. Forgiving layout - par 71 with the slope rating of 116 yet still an enjoyable course.

Lots of potential.

Course layout is great. Challenging holes. Tee boxes and sand traps need lots of TLC. There’s more sand on the tee boxes than in the traps!!!

Need to spray the bunkers. They were all full of hornets, anything in the sand was basically a lost ball. Rounds are always slow - rare to get out of there in under 4.5 hours. They have 4 starters but 0 rangers checking on pace of play. Could be a fun course if they could work on those few improvements
