Marshall Canyon Golf Club
About
Marshall Canyon Golf Course is nestled within the scenic foothills that overlook La Verne. The course is seemingly short at 6,110 yards from the back tees but it's not to be underestimated. The hilly terrain provides more than enough uneven lies and blind shots. The fast greens are also some of the toughest in the area but they are nicely balanced by wide, player-friendly fairways. The hard-to-read greens have subtle but tricky breaks that get easier once you've played the golf course before but even then, they still present some challenges. Marshall Canyon is a local favorite not only for the challenging round but also because it's a good value with great scenery. Golfers can enjoy panoramic views of the surrounding countryside and will often catch a glimpse of the many deer that roam the course.

Marshall Canyon: Improvements on the course
Since the last time I played there they are making changes on the course. More grass less weeds. The greens where very tricky as always. Good time playing. Great weather and scenery.
Almost a 6 hour round !
I haven't seen a review for MC for awhile, so here it is.
Played on Friday afternoon with great weather for a round. I played as a single with two younger great guys. The deer were out and unfortunately so were a couple of drunken fools in front of us. After a 3 hour front nine, I started wondering why on earth would the cart girl keep feeding these idiots more shots. Anyway, the fairways were decent, the rough was uncut and kind of inconsistent. The greens were the best part of the course, however, they are punching today. The sand and tee boxes really need some work, accept for #18 where the bunkers looked great. Not sure why. Overall, it was a frustrating round, not because of the course, but because of the idiots in front of us who were constantly being obnoxious and confrontational when we asked them to keep up. So, after a 6 hour round, I watched all of those drunk guys get in their cars and drive off the property. The staff here always great, but the cart girl needs to recognize when to cut people off. They ruined what was supposed to be a nice round of golf. The highlight of my day was when one guy actually yelled at us, "I'm a millionaire and I can do what I want", to which we replied, "that's great, you can afford to get some golf lessons". lol Sorry for the rant!
Course Evaluation
I found the course to be challenging but very playable. There were a number of concrete drains on the fairways that came into play and there was no information how to handle in local course rules. The pace of play was slow with no acknowledgment by the group ahead to allow the following group to play thru. No marshals available to address the issue. Overall, good value for the cost.
Great course if they can figure out the grass
I play here all the time lot and really like the course. It is definitely challenging due to the trees lining most fairways.
However, the grass on the tee boxes and the fairways leave a lot to be desired. The tee boxes grass is way to thick and it seems you can’t really get your ball teed at your preferred height and your feet don’t feel planted. The fairways have similar thick grass and the ball loses a lot of roll out.
Not sure what’s happening here and I can’t recall ever seeing the grass like this ever.
Good value excellent maintenance
Overall very fun and pleasant experience even though the temp. was near 100 degrees. Lots of shade and mountain breeze made it very comfortable condition to play. Love this course!
Slopes of the putting greens are horrible
The course is awesome. However, please fix the horrible slopes on the greens. It’s not just one hole, but every hole on the course slopes needs to be less steep than they are now. Other than the slope of the greens, it’s a beautiful course to play in. Staff is great. Just please adjust the greens. Thanks.
Great local spot. Not too busy
Have played here for years. Enjoy the course conditions and the local wild life.
This course is terrible
. The only selling point is the deer, but the staff don’t even allow taking photos. After we teed off, we took a quick photo of the deer, and the marshal immediately came over to rush us to play. He even kept talking next to me while I was hitting, telling us we couldn’t take pictures and had to play faster.
Still needs some work
The greens are in great shape but super fast. The tee boxes really need maintenance. I felt like I was teeing off out of the rough on almost every hole. And, they removed a bunch of trees but they were the ones that provided shade on the tee boxes.
Slow play
Brutal slow round, marshal did not talk to a single player that I witnessed 6 hour round is unexpectable
Hello and thank you for your 5-star rating! We're thrilled you enjoyed your round. Please come see us soon, and thanks for choosing Marshall Canyon Golf Club!
