Marshall Canyon Golf Course is nestled within the scenic foothills that overlook La Verne. The course is seemingly short at 6,110 yards from the back tees but it's not to be underestimated. The hilly terrain provides more than enough uneven lies and blind shots. The fast greens are also some of the toughest in the area but they are nicely balanced by wide, player-friendly fairways. The hard-to-read greens have subtle but tricky breaks that get easier once you've played the golf course before but even then, they still present some challenges. Marshall Canyon is a local favorite not only for the challenging round but also because it's a good value with great scenery. Golfers can enjoy panoramic views of the surrounding countryside and will often catch a glimpse of the many deer that roam the course.

Slow

Pace of play was extremely slow. Started at 4pm and didn’t get to the 8th hole until about 6:15. At that point we called it quits as carts were stacking on top of each other on the tee box.

Holes were also poorly marked and did not include general distances displayed.

Wouldn’t play here again.

Overall conditions of the course itself were nice and the wildlife was beautiful.

Terrible pace of play

this course has no marshal. The pace of play is 5 to 6 hours. Every shot is anywhere from 2 minutes to 10 minutes wait. The condition of the course is on a downhill spiral. The people running this course obviously do not care about the golfers or the golfing experience.

Sunday Slow

This is a challenging and rewarding course, from tee to green - especially the greens! Given the dynamic of the mountains and the valley below, reading the greens is not intuitive and can really affect your score even though you’re hitting well. Also, there is quite a bit of wildlife to enjoy while you are waiting to hit. Deer, Hawks, and all sorts of ground rodents!

The pace of play last Sunday was just shy of six hours, three hours on the front two hours and 54 minutes on the back. I did not see a Marshall the entire time,

I have experienced slow weekend play before, so that seems to be the norm.

The staff are very friendly and helpful and welcoming, the food is good, the price is right, plenty of parking, and friendly fellow golfers.

Pace of play unacceptable

The pace of play is unacceptable. Nobody seems to care how slow the play moves.

Good Course, Poor Service

Long story short: We got started on back 9 with a promise the front would be wide open when we hit the turn. Played 9 holes in 2hr 15min. Got to tee box #1 to find a foursome on the green, foursome in the fairway, and three groups waiting to tee off (2 foursomes and a twosome). Waited 10-15 minutes, first group waiting finally started to tee off. Needless to say there is no plan in place to take care of their golfers when a situation arises. Poor decision to send groups to back 9 because of minor back up a few holes into the course. Decided not to wait and have a 3+ hour front 9. "Best" they could do is give us a free drink ticket. Wild.

Start us one tee box #1, would've been a smooth and fun round for my buddies first time there.

Unfortunate.

Slow pace of play

Too many people playing on the course. There are 6 carts of 3 groups hanging on the tee box of hole#7 and the front group of hole 7 just tee off when we hatted the Hole 6 green.

Forgiving off the tee with tough greens

Not a lot of OB but still have to place the ball off the tee with less than driver on some par 4/5’s. Greens are sloped and tough to read.
